Two-for-one Deal on AT&T

AT&T has a few campaigns running to increase the sale of cellphones, and now that Christmas is pretty close, the more they sell, the better.

One of those deals is a 2-for-1 offer, also known as buy 1 get 1 for free. The two handsets included in the deal are the following: Samsung Propel, and Pantech Matrix. Every good deal has a negative detail, and in this case it is translated to a mandatory 2-year contract, plus a $35 monthly package.

How does it work:

To take advantage of the offer, customers pay $129.99 for the first device and receive a $50 AT&T promotion card after mail-in rebate, bringing the total cost to $79.99(1). A two-year service agreement and up to a $35 monthly data or messaging package are required. To get one free, customers pay $49.99 and receive a $50 AT&T promotion card after mail-in rebate.

Yesterday Kodak filled a lawsuit on the US against two of the most popular companies in the mobile world: Samsung and LG.

The lawsuit is related to digital-camera patents, and includes the following functionalities: image capture, compression, data storage, and preview of images in motion.

So, what does Kodak really want? Basically they want to prohibit import and sales of the Samsung and LG products that use the patents. As for what they ask in the lawsuit: unspecified damages. Classic!

  • The smartphone business has taken a hit and I am not referring to the economical crisis we’re currently living in. I am talking about Apple and RIM who are boldly going after Nokia’s first place on top of the smartphone business. Needless to say the two companies have already outranked Microsoft, Samsung or Motorola and they are going for the big kill.

Although down from 51.4% smartphone market share last year to 38.9% this year, I am sure Nokia won’t lose it’s crown soon. Apple has a 17.3% of the worldwide market share while RIM is tailing along with 15.2% Apple is advantaged by the fact it only has two cell phones out there compared to RIM’s countless Berries that are sold almost anywhere. But the Storm is coming which means we are in for a tough battle between Apple and RIM for the second place. And let’s not forget about the G1 who is also coming in hot!
