Land Rover S1 Cell Phone

Besides cars Land Rover is able to manufacture cell phones too. And the company seems to follow the same concepts when building phones as they do when making cars. Land Rover phones are very durable and you can expect them to withstand some harsh conditions.

The S1 is so tough that it could actually stand being run over by an actual car. The phone can resist temperatures of up to 300 degrees, it can be immersed in water or any other liquids and it will surely work nicely in colder environments.

Unfortunately this S1 phone is not a smartphone. It offers features like a 2.0 megapixel camera, a battery capable of 1,500 hours of life and a loud ringtone which you’ll never miss. The phone is currently available in the UK for £25 per month with an Orange contract or for £249.99 from Tesco.

What makes a company on the auto industry like Land Rover, to make a push on the big market of handsets? How about two rugged cellphones that demonstrate the spirit of Land Rover? That’s probably what they were thinking when talking to Sonim Technologies in order to manufacture the devices.

Anyhow, the 2 upcoming cellphones will be entitled S1 and S2 G4, and have a release date set to 2Q of 2009. What makes the cellphones special is the ability of withstanding thermal shocks, being water resistant, capable of supporting humidity, and even drops from 1.6meters to the ground. Other than these rugged details, this is pretty much a mobile phone like any other.

S1.bmpOn October 14, 2007 Sanyo unveiled the S1 cell phone on Radio Shack shelves everywhere. Starting in January of next year, Sprint will be selling the S1 as well. Here is a run down of the S1 in all its glory.

The term bigger is better may apply to many aspects of life, but mobile technology is certainly not one of them. The S1 is small. At just 2.5 oz. and with an ultra slim profile, this cell phone is an easy fit in any hand. A sleek black look and a silky finish give the S1 very uber appearance. There also exists a sophisticated key guard and flexible business and parental controls for a total control of the S1 experience. Many of the other industry standards exist as well, but the true strength of the S1 lies in Sanyo’s partnership with Sprint. Lost contact info? Want to input info on your cell through the web? All this and much more can be done through the Sprint website directly to your phone. Downloads, web browsing and IMS are all possible via Sprint. The S1 has a talk time of 3.5 hours and comes with an AC Phone Charger featuring the new micro USB connector.
