HTC Touch2 coming to Rogers?

In early September we learned that the HTC Touch2 would be hitting store shelves sometime in October which it has yet to do. Well, the latest reports suggest that the Windows Mobile powered device will be coming to Rogers.

There’s no other details regarding this release but our sources do suggest it will come in red and blue as shown above.

Following the plan of Rogers to lower the price of BlackBerry Bold 9700 that was announced yesterday, they added a more discounts to other BlackBerry models.

- BlackBerry Bold now costs $100 with a 3-year contract;
- BlackBerry Curve 8900 is priced a $80 also with a 3-year contract;
- and the BlackBerry Curve 8250 costs only $50 after signing the 3-year contract;

As you can see Rogers is doing good prices, that is, if you become their client for 3 years.

  • Despite originally being thought to be hitting Rogers on October 26th, the carrier has just come around now to offer the BlackBerry Bold 9700 for $299.99 with a 3-year contract. Of course, if you want to pick it up with no plan you have the option to shell out $599.99.

    Now we just have to wait until TELUS and Bell put the device up for sale and we’ll be good.

    Motorola Droid Shows GSM Features

    The Droid might be a Verizon Wireless exclusive phone in the USA but that doesn’t mean that Motorola shouldn’t sell in other markets too. After all the Droid is probably going to be one of the best Android phones around and I’m pretty sure that Motorola will want to cash in on all that hotness.

    The FCC has revealed exactly such a version of the Droid that could be used all around the GSM world. What’s more interesting is that the GSM Droid has support for AT&T’s WCDMA 850 and 1900MHz bands which also happen to be used by carriers in Canada. Not that Verizon will share the Droid with AT&T any time soon! But Rogers, Bell and Telus will probably want to launch the phone in the following months or, dare we say, in the following weeks?

    Will you buy the Droid next week from Verizon or are you waiting for a GSM version of it?

    RIM’s newest BlackBerry, the 9700 also known as the Onyx or the Bold 2 is coming to U.S. customers in the following weeks from both T-Mobile and AT&T. What about Canadian the consumer you ask? Well it looks like Rogers Wireless is going to bring the Bold 2 to Canada starting with October 26. It’s being speculated that the 9700 will be available for $299 with a new three-year contract but as long as we don’t have the actual press release to back that up, we can’t tell you anything for sure. What do you say folks? Are you ready for the new Bold in town?

    Rogers has today made the BlackBerry Curve 8520 available for those willing to drop $99.99 with a 3-year contract.

    For those of you who aren’t familiar with this phone it features an optical trackpad, preloaded Facebook, Flickr and Twitter apps, a 2.0 MP camera, quad band EDGE, stereo Bluetooth and WiFi.

    So again, BlackBerry Curve 8520 available today on Rogers for $99.99 with a 3-year contract.

    That’s right folks, what you’re currently reading is not a mistake of some sort. Bell and Telus will get the iPhone this November since the official Apple partner in Canada will lose its iPhone exclusivity deal next month.

    Bell certainly has even more reasons to celebrate as the carrier has deployed its new HSPA network in time for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The iPhone deal comes just in the nick of time although none of the parties involved will admit everything so far. We have no pricing details so far but I bet both Bell and Telus are really eager to announce their subscribers that the iPhone will be available in their stores soon. What about your Rogers? Don’t you have any denial to do regarding the loss of iPhone exclusivity?

    What you see above is Rogers‘ recently unveiled Rocket Hub 3G modem marketed for use in the home. In other words, this is the perfect solution for Canadian’s living in the boonies who can’t find an ISP but still get a cellphone reception.

    The Rocket Hub features 7.2Mbps HSPA in addition to supporting WiFi and ethernet out. Rogers will also give you the ability to make voice calls over UMTS, a nice touch.

    This device will go on sale sometime later this month for a currently unknown price with plans starting right around $35 Canadian.

    While AT&T is upgrading its 3G network to 7.2Mbps and while Rogers or T-Mobile are deploying 21Mbps HSPA+ networks, Huawei is working on something even bigger. It’s not LTE as you’d suspect is 56Mbps HSPA+ which should be available sometime next year in Beijing. The most interesting part is that Huawei is claiming that its partners will simply have to get a software upgrade in order to upgrade their networks. Could 56Mbps HSPA+ be that easy to deploy? That’s definitely a bold move from Huawei and its carrier partners should be very happy to hear such news. We’ll still want to see some more proof before we get too excited about such possibilities. Let’s see if other carriers, and I won’t name any names just yet, are going to be ready to offer similar theoretical speeds next year!

    It looks like the Canadians at Rogers Wireless are working round the clock to bring more speed to their subscribers. Rogers has deployed 21Mbps HSPA+ network in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal which happen to be the top five largest Canadian cities. The network is already in place but unfortunately, for everyone living in any of these five markets, there are no handsets capable to handle that speed. In case you need all that speed for your computer then you could go on and get the new 21Mbps HSPA+ Mobile Internet Rocket Stick. The gadget is available for pre-order for $79.99 with a contract so go ahead and get it.

    Canadians interested in the iPhone 3GS will be very happy to know that Rogers and Fido will continue their promotion through September 16. The discounts will still be available and, most importantly, that 6GB data plan is still going to be available for $30. You have about six weeks to take advantage of the deal as September 15 is the last day when the deal will be available.

    Rogers is keeping up with the growing needs of its Internet-surfing customers. The company has announced its 50Mbps DOCSIS 3.0-based service. That means that not only Comcast’s customers can enjoy fast internet in the USA but also Canadians can now get the same service. Unfortunately for Rogers’ customers the initial roll out will cover a limited area, the Greater Toronto Area. Other regions will get the new service in the following months but we have really no clear information on what markets will receive it.

    You will need new gear to get that DOCSIS 3.0 service running. Rogers will launch its first 802.11n modem, which will be available for free for the first 50 people signing up for the service. After that the N Gateway, that’s what they call it, will cost $200.

    You can imagine that any decent carrier out there wants to get its hands on the iPhone 3GS and make the most of it. Such a carrier might be Telus and despite being a CDMA-based carrier it would definitely go for the iPhone 3GS. There’s nothing official just yet but it looks like Telus is going to sell the iPhone 3GS in October as soon as its brand new HSPA network will be properly launched. What will Rogers and Fido have to say about it? We’ll just have to wait and see how this one plays out folks.

    X1_Front.jpgBetter late than never right? That seems to be Rogers‘ policy concerning the Xperia X1. While Sony Ericsson is getting ready to launch the X2 at some point in the future, Rogers is only ready to sell the first version of the phone.

    The phone will cost $249.99 with a 3-year contract and at this point in time it wouldn’t be that wise to get one. You’d be better of getting some of the new phones available or simply wait for the Xperia X2 to be launched. What say you, Xperia X1 phone fans?

    Those potential iPhone 3G S customers in Canada will be pleasantly or unpleasantly surprised, depending on their budget, to hear that the new Apple handset will sell for $699 or $799 once it’s available to the public. And according to Apple.ca, these are the official prices:

    For non-qualified customers, including existing Rogers or Fido customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone3G, the pricing without a new agreement is $599(8GB), $699(16GB), or $799(32GB).

    The iPhone 3G will be available for $599 off contract so in case you want to purchase that instead you can do so starting tomorrow. Rumors say that both Rogers and Fido will try not to sell the handset without a contract and that’s understandable considering that the carriers are trying to get as many new contracts signed as possible. In case anything goes wrong starting tomorrow, we’ll be waiting to hear your iPhone 3G S purchase story.

    iPhone 3GS Is Going to Canada Too

    One of the first countries to get the new iPhone 3GS, besides the USA, is Canada. The new Apple smartphone will be available starting with June 19 and you’ll be able to buy it from Rogers or Fido; you choose! As for prices, the Canadian iPhone 3GS will cost as follows: $199 for the 16GB version and $299 for the 32GB version. Just like in the States the old 8GB iPhone 3G will cost $99 on contract. In case you already own one of those 3Gs from Rogers or Fido an you are not qualifying for any hardware upgrade program then you will get the iPhone 3GS with no strings attached.

    Did you like all that? Well we have more! Tethering will be available if you have a data plan that offers at least 1GB of traffic per month. And that should be quite easy to obtain since those 6GB for $30 per month data plans will be back in action. Wondering about MMS? Well those will be supported as soon as the new iPhone 3.0 OS gets launched. A new iPhone value pack will tell you more about that whole MMS thing.

    Doesn’t all that sound just a little better than what AT&T is currently offering? Which comes to my real question: what has AT&T been doing while Apple cooked up the new iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 3.0 OS? Shouldn’t they have been prepared to launch the iPhone 3GS at full speed?

    We have some good news for all those Canadians ready to get a new data plan from Rogers Wireless. There’s a catch however. You will have to get an Android-powered handset and the 6GB data plan is all yours. The new plan will cost you $30 per month but it’s certainly worth it. The HTC Dream or the Magic will be available on June 2nd from Roger Wireless so you won’t be waiting that long.

    Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 fans in Canada will be more than happy to find out that Rogers is going to start selling the Xperia X1a starting with June 9. Considering that the Xperia is so last year, you might consider getting one of the fancy phones which are about to be available. And just in case you’re hooked on the Xperia then you should know Rogers is going to soft-launch the device. That means only selected Rogers stores will have it on June 9. Full retail launch will roll on June 30 in case you won’t get your hands on a new Xperia early next month. As for the price for the X1a, you will have to fork out $249.99 with a regular 3-year Rogers contract or be prepared to pay anywhere between $649 to $749 to get the handset free of contract.

    Rogers Wireless is going all Android in Canada starting with this June. Well maybe not exactly all Android but the carrier is going to launch both the Dream and the Magic. June 2nd is the day you’ll have to remember to go to a Rogers store to pick up the HTC Dream and the Magic will arrive sometime later in June too. We don’t have all the launch details yet so we’ll be waiting for Rogers to offer us some prices soon.
