You should remember how Roger McNamee, one of the guys backing up Palm’s Pre bragged about the Pre’s capabilities and how the new Palm handset will crush the iPhone. Palm took immediate action to distance itself from McNamee’s point of view regarding the superiority of the phone. And now, the same guy decided to take a different approach at D7. The mock-video here has been screened at D7 and it surely made a couple of people laugh. Roger made fun of the Pre and most importantly of himself. Is the Pre better than Viagra? We’re about to see that in a couple of weeks. Will you give up your iPhone for a Pre? Let us know all about it!

A few days ago that long-haired Roger McNamee said basically that the Pre will be such a cool phone that it will steal iPhone customers away, and particularly those whose first-gen iPhone AT&T contracts will expire in June. Palm seems not to agree with such a prediction. It has submitted a document to SEC which among other boring things states that:
The statement in the second paragraph of the article that “not one” person who bought an Apple, Inc. iPhone on the first shipment date “will still be using an iPhone a month” after the two-year anniversary of that day is an exaggerated prediction of consumer behavior pattern and is withdrawn.
It seems to me that Palm should learn to grow some balls if they want to make it in the cell phone business. Is this an apology so Apple won’t mind? Microsoft’s CEO never had a problem saying the iPhone basically sucks. So did Verizon’s CEO. Did we just get to that point where people are afraid to upset Apple? First RIM cancels its bold commercial and now Palm writes the paragraph above?
So, iPhone customers? Will you switch to the Pre?

The Palm Pre arrival date hasn’t been announced yet officially but Roger McNamee is making bold statements. That hairy founding partner of Elevation Partners, that investment firm working on Palm’s rescue plan surprised everyone when he went on to say that the Pre will steam former iPhone buyers:
June 29, 2009, is the two-year anniversary of the first shipment of the iPhone. Not one of those people will still be using an iPhone a month later. Think about it — if you bought the first iPhone, you bought it because you wanted the coolest product on the market. Your two-year contract has just expired. Look around. Tell me what they’re going to buy.
We’ll be interested to see how many iPhone users will switch to Pre this summer. Will AT&T send Verizon-like surveys to its iPhone customers that will go to Sprint?
