We’re really tired to see this weird game between Apple and Palm. It was a little funny at first but we should expect to see this mind games occur every now and then. Here’s how it works: Apple launches a new iTunes version that happens to block the Pre out and then Palm comes up with a solution that will allow iTunes synching again.

Apple has a new iTunes version available and naturally, Palm Pre owners won’t be able to use it, at least for the time being. Version 9.0.2 was launched this week and it’s still too early for Palm to release an iTunes syncing solution. The simplest thing you can do is not to download the upload and keep using your old iTunes version with your Pre. What do you think?

  • Palm Pixi to Bring New webOS?

    Palm Pixi is now an official Sprint and in case you’re still not sure about buying one then maybe this little info will help. Well it’s mostly a rumor but it looks like the new webOS phone will come with a new OS version. The new software will bring you more features although we still don’t know what they are. Rumors say that the next OS built is either 1.2.9 or 1.3. Currently the Pre is running version 1.2.1 which means we could be in for a lot of changes once the new OS hits. What do you say Pre owners? Are you ready for a new webOS version?

    Naturally there are no release dates announced yet but we might just see the Pixi come with the new OS on board. We’ll tell you more about the new webOS once it becomes available.

  • In case you got pretty excited two days ago to find out that Palm and Sprint are getting ready to launch the Pixi on October 20 then you’re about to get pretty bummed to hear that said date might not be that precise. The source failed to mention the correct launch date but we can assume that both Sprint and Palm would like to have a fresh phone available in time for Christmas. In case you have already passed on the Palm Pre, which can be purchased right now for just $79 from Walmart, will you consider getting the Pixi this winter?

    webOS 1.2 for Palm users

    Palm has released a new version of their operative system, made for the Palm Pre users. It is codenamed webOS 1.2 and this upgrade is already available for download at the Palm website.

    The webOS 1.2 bring a few new features to their users:

    - being able to buy songs via Amazon MP3 just by using the phone (no need for WiFi);
    - being able to insert credit card information so it is stored in a Palm profile, along with your bookmarks and other data;
    - new way to share link easily, with a push of a button;

    Visit the Palm website for more details on webOS 1.2.

    Have you purchased your Palm Pre yet? Well in case you’re still considering getting the phone you should know that the word on the street is that the Pre will come with a new price starting September 8. Instead of the regular $199 with a contract you should be able to get it for just $149.99 after a mail-in rebate and with a Sprint contract. Nothing is official so far but it looks like the documents indicate that the promotion will last until October 31. Considering that Sprint is getting ready to sell HTC’s hottest Android phone, the Hero, it might be a good idea not to rush into things just yet. Maybe you’re money will be better spent on the Hero instead! What do you say Sprint customers?

    webOS 1.2 Captured on Video

    While Palm might have stopped the webOS 1.2 leakage, that doesn’t mean you can’t check out webOS 1.2 in action. The video above was made by one lucky webOS 1.2 owner. As you can see the new OS version will let you copy and paste both text and graphics. You can also save images and copy URLs now and the zoom features has been definitely improved. Search email is now available and I’m sure some of you have been requesting this feature a lot. And it looks like the LEDs in the gesture area could be enabled to offer notifications but you’d have to do it yourself (not included in the video above.)

    What’s you experience with webOS 1.2? Have you installed it already on your Pre? Palm will probably release the new OS soon as they’re definitely getting ready to launch the App Catalog.

  • It looks like Sprint is getting ready to launch not one, but two new Palm smartphones running webOS. According to Sprint’s inventory system, the Palm 120 and C40 are on their way but we have no idea what these new phones look like or what features we should expect from them. The 120 is supposed to be the Eos which we’re already expecting but the C40 is still a mystery. We’ll have to wait for some unhappy employee from Sprint or Palm to clear the air for us and leak the first shots of these new Palm smartphones. And just in case you’re wondering, Verizon will probably get these new Palms too at some point in the near future, so you won’t have to switch to Sprint to get your new Palm 120 or C40.

  • Canadians can now purchase their own Pre phone from Bell but you already knew that. What you didn’t know is that UK customers will apparently be able to get their own GSM Palm Pre by the end of October. The Pre will be available exclusively from O2 in the UK and the carrier has been keeping things quiet so far. But it looks like O2 managers have been given a release date which sounds exactly like Friday, October 30.

  • With the iPhone finally going to China after months and months of negotiations and false announcements, we also hear that another 2009 hot phone might be headed that way. The Palm Pre is the phone in question and China Telecom is the carrier said to be in talks with Palm for the handset. No clear announcement has been made so far but it’s probably only a matter of time until Palm will ship it’s Pre to China. What do you think, would Palm’s Pre commercial be more popular in China?

  • This a strange news coming in folks! It looks like Palm wants to prove that unlike others, it won’t reject or ban Google’s Google Voice app and the application will be available for Pre owners. Nothing weird so far, right? But get ready for this! It looks like Google isn’t aware of Palm intentions of launching a Google Voice app for the Pre. In fact, Google seems to want to launch a web based version of Google Voice that lacks deep integration with native apps like dialer or contacts.

    So let me get this straight, is Palm trying to come up with a full Google Voice app by itself? Does Sprint know anything about this? Will the FCC have to request answers from everyone to clarify the status of Google Voice on Pre phones?

    Bell Starts Selling the Palm Pre

    That’s right Bell customers, you should be happy to know that Bell is ready to sell a Palm Pre to you. In fact the carrier has a new ad which should convince you to pre-order a Pre right away. And in case you feel like you’ve seen that particular ad before then you probably have. Others did it before and you might have heard about the phone in question. People like to call it the iPhone. Don’t get me wrong there! The Pre is definitely a great phone, only it hasn’t risen to everyone expectations. And it hasn’t been able to comfortably fight against the iPhone just yet. But what do you think Bell customers? Are you going to purchase your Pre soon?

  • Remember those weird Palm Pre commercials? Well it looks like a lot of people didn’t like them that much. And all this hasn’t escaped Gary Koepke, the co-founder of Modernist, the ad agency behind the ads. Here’s what he said about the Palm Pre campaign:

    We weren’t trying to creep people out, but one thing I have learned now in this digital age is people can be as rude as they want as long as they don’t have to look you in the face. The Pre is probably being talked about more than other phones right now because of the marketing and advertising, and that’s a good thing. Could the ads work harder to show exactly how the phone works? Yes, but we knew it would be polarizing people to have a woman not shout at them and tell an interesting story.

    It’s a very different look and feel for this sector. There’s nobody involved in an iPhone ad, and ‘Your life is on BlackBerry’ — isn’t that great? Instead of having a life? We wanted a middle ground between those two places — what about the people who want a really great smartphone?

    Let’s say we understand! We still like better other commercials. And the customers like them a lot more too. AT&T and Apple has sold over 5 million iPhones in the last quarter while RIM is selling lots of BlackBerry phones too. How many Pre units has Palm and Sprint sold so far? Did the commercials help increase that number? We can’t say since we don’t have any of those official numbers!

    We have some good news for all you Palm Pre lovers out there! If for some reason you haven’t purchased your Pre yet, you can get it now from Amazon too. The phone is available for $199.99 with a Sprint contract and you’ll notice how there’s not mail-in rebate. You only have to pay $199.99! If you want a Pre free of contract then you’ll have to pay $499.99 which is $50 less than Sprint’s offer and $150 less than Best Buy’s price. You can start ordering your Palm Pre today from Amazon but you’ll have it shipped to your door in 4 to 6 weeks only!

  • We have another weird Palm Pre commercial for you folks. We have no idea how many Pres have been sold from the beginning of the season since Sprint hasn’t come out with any numbers so far but we have to assume that Palm wishes to sell even more Pre handsets. Why else would they continue their ad campaign? The newest available video is called My Phone Can Read My Mind. Did you like it?

    First of all, no phone can read anyone’s mind and we’d probably not feel comfortable with a machine knowing what we actually think. Second of all, Palm should consider changing the whole script. After all, I, as an average consumer, would love to see why the Pre is better than any other offer. Maybe the Pre is the fastest phone available on the most dependable network available. Or something like that! In which case I might go to a Sprint store and get one. But if it’s a phone that can read my mind I might not be that interested in it, will I?

  • It’s not an official version yet but at least you get the chance of playing with a totally new Google Voice client on your Palm Pre phone. Apple has already banned the application from its App Store but iPhone users will still be able to use it if they’re willing to jailbreak the phone. Palm doesn’t seem to have anything against Google Voice yet but that doesn’t mean Pre users can use the official application. Instead they can install and start using the unofficial dkGoogleVoice app. Sure it might have bugs and everything but at least you have a Google Voice version to play with until the real thing will be available.

    If you’re not willing to wait for Pre developers to come up with new applications then there’s good news for you. There’s at least a way for you to install and enjoy homebrew applications on Palm’s newest phone. In fact, we have two solutions for you!

    You can get a desktop app, the WebOS Quick Install which will work on Mac, PC or Linux and will let your drag and drop applications straight to your Pre.

    The other solution is called fileCoaster and it will let you install IPKs straight on the phone. While these ingenious solutions are available out there for now, you should make sure you take advantage of them at once since Palm might decide to somehow block them with a future firmware update!

    In case you’re not purchasing a Palm Pre because you think it’s too expensive then head on over to Best Buy. The Pre is now available for just $99 which means you’re going to be saving $100. Sure you’ll have to get a 2-year contract from Sprint but you were considering that option since you started thinking about buying your first Palm Pre. Will Sprint sell the Pre for $99 on contract too?

    If you’re looking for a Palm Pre in Canada then it looks like Bell is the carrier to go to. We have just heard that Bell will be the exclusive Bell carrier for a six-month period. In case you don’t exactly want to become a Bell customer then you’ll have to wait a short while until everyone else will get the Pre too. It’s funny how this six months exclusive keeps popping up. Sprint was rumored to have a similar agreement with Palm but Dan Hesse, Sprint’s CEO, denied everything. Will Bell deny the six-month exclusivity too?
