Here’s an interesting touchscreen phone from iRiver. It’s not the PMP we’ve gotten used to but it’s a totally new concept. Showed first at CES 2008 last January, the phone was picked up by Korean carrier KT and it has received a launch date, March 9th of next year.

The phone is practically a PMP with phone functionality and we’re going to see it in store’s as iRiver’s wave. The wave will get you a 3 inch touchscreen, WiFi and possibly 3G support, FM radio, PMP features and even an e-dictionary. The wave comes with 4GB of internal storage space which is upgradable via miniSD cards.

OK then, we need some prices and some official release dates for European and American markets.

Cowon presents P5 PMP

Portable media players made by Cowon have been mentioned a couple of times, remember the iAudio X7? Or the Q5? Probably not, but that doesn’t matter much because their main target market is in Korea. With that being said, they have presented the upcoming P5 player.

Sporting a 5-inch LCD color screen with a big resolution of 800×480 pixels, the P5 PMP has an unusual processor, more specifically the RMI Alchemu Au1250 that runs at 700MHz. Other details on this fresh player include FM radio, an electronic dictionary, bluetooth, voice recording, and DMB - Digital Multimedia Broadcasting - so you can easily watch TV.

As for the battery on Cowon Q5, it lasts 14 hours of music, or 9 hours of video.

MIU Launches a New HDPC

We have rarely talked about a HDCP. If you must know, a HDPC is a Hybrid Dual Portable Computer. It has a mobile OS and Windows XP all working together somehow. MIU has a new HDPC which comes with an Intel Atom processor inside. I don’t exactly like how it looks like and I know I’d have problems controlling that keyboard.

This HDCP will be a GPS, PMP, e-book reader, netbook and phone all rolled into one. It has GSM, GPRS, CDMA support so you’ll get a signal almost anywhere. There’s no info on prices and availability just yet.

Orango V580 PMP - iPon Nano Clone

From all the iPod and iPhone clones that we’ve seen in the past, the V580 from Orango is the winner because it really resembles an iPod Nano. If it wasn’t for the lack of an Apple logo on the back side, most people wouldn’t probably notice it is a fake one… As you can imagine, the portable media player is manufactured in China.

The specifications list of the V580 is full of good stuff, including an e-book reader, a USB2.0 port, and a slot for TF memory cards. The support of audio and video files is pretty big, it can read AVI (Xvid and Divx), FLV, RM, MP3, WMA, AAC, VOB, and others.

Each day that passes a new portable media player is presented in Asia, this time is the Teclast M33 that takes the glory by being a good product that doesn’t cost much, that is, when compared to players that have the same functionalities but are made by popular companies - like Creative or Apple.

Anyhow, the M33 has two details that count a lot: it only costs $73, and supports microSD memory cards of 32GB. How many songs, movies, and other data can you put in a 32GB drive? A lot. The internal memory has 8GB which is also good and unusual.

As expected the player supports a lot of different format files, including RM, FLV, WMV, MPG, MP3, FLAC, APE, OGG, and more.

In the process of searching for a new portable media player, there are two details that most people like to look at: price and design. If you are more interested in the latter, check out the new SAFA device called Bandi.

On top of the good looking rounded corners and the smooth colors, there are no buttons which means the SAFA Bandi uses a touch scroll to make all the possible selections. Sacrificing usability for design is always a good option, right?

Anyway, at this time there aren’t many specific details about this PMP, but we do know it boasts a 1.5-inch display screen, good sound quality, and an easy to use GUI - Graphical User Interface.
