Here’s an interesting move coming from Vodafone UK. The company has announced that it will cancel all roaming charges from June 1 to August 35. Rogers Wireless is getting ready to make a few changes when it comes to its SMS service. It looks like the Canadian provider is going to start charging customers for all incoming SMS messages if they don’t have any prior text messaging plan. Starting with July 7th all incoming messages will be charged 15¢ each so you should better get an SMS plan. If you happen to send and receive a total of 34 messages or more every month then you should better get a $5 plan instead of paying for all those messages.

Your favorite carrier, Rogers Wireless, is going to offer you new smartphone plans. Ready to make the switch from your current plan? Considering buying a new smartphone with a contract from Rogers? Well let us know what you think about the new offers. They will certainly not please everyone.

So here they are:

$45 Smartphone Plan

  • 250 daytime minutes
  • Evenings and weekends at 9pm
  • Rogers to Rogers
  • 500MB data

$50 Smartphone Plan

  • 400 daytime minutes
  • Evenings and weekends at 9pm
  • Rogers to Rogers
  • 500MB data

$75 Smartphone Plan

  • 650 daytime minutes
  • Evenings and weekends at 9pm
  • Rogers to Rogers
  • 500MB data

We don’t know what happened to those data limits. It seems that Rogers forgot to upgrade the data part of the new plans. Anyway, with the new plans you will be able to choose one of the following: Free incoming calls, 5pm start to evening and weekend minutes, my5 Canada-Wide or Unlimited Network Calling.

The Storm is approaching and we have plans for it. Vodafone plans to be specific. You will find below details about what a Vodafone’s going to charge for the European BlackBerry Storm. And we have Storm pricing too.

The Perfect Choice Access 100 plan will get you the Storm for 109.99 Euro or about $141. The monthly fee is 49.99 Euro or $64 and you’ll get just 100 voice minutes, 100 SMS messages and 1GB of BlackBerry e-mail, mobile TV and 10 music downloads.

The Perfect Choice Access 200 will get you the corresponding number of voice minutes and SMS messages but the data plan will remain unchanged. The plan costs 64.99 Euro per month and the Storm will cost 64.99 too.

The Perfect Choice Access 400 will cost 84.99 Euro per month and it will get you a Storm for 69.99 Euro while the monthly fee is 84.99 Euro. You will get 400 minutes, 400 SMS messages and the same data plan.

The Perfect Choice Access 600 plan will cost 99.99 per month while the phone will cost 49.99 Euro. Unfortunately the same data plan remains.

Objections anyone? Verizon plans anyone?

I think I like the idea someone working for Virgin Mobile Canada had. The carrier has decided to launch the a new plan called myPair which will get you virtually unlimited voice minutes for you and your favorite loved one. For $50 you get two lines with unlimited local calling between them. 350 shared daytime minutes between them, which isn’t that much but they become unlimited in the evenings and during the weekend.

You can choose other options too. Get myCrew which will get you unlimited talk/text with up to 5 people. myTalk&Text with you unlimited texting and myCalls will get you unlimited incoming calls. The whole thing sounds pretty good so go ahead and check the fine print. Who knows what’s hidden in the closet!

T-Mobile was supposed to launch its postpaid contract options some time ago. August 6th to be precise. People have been talking about it since July and when the D-Day came, nothing happened. Instead of T-Mobile customers being able to choose month-to-month postpaid plans, they were stuck with the same payment plans and pay-as-you-go offers. (more…)

Earth population is somewhere around 6.5-6.7 billion people and rising. The over number of mobile subscriber is estimated to be around 4 billion. • A lot of rumors are circulating the wed these days. One of the newest says Verizon is considering providing contract-free service for customers. Yes, that means they won’t tie you down to a 2 year contract for every crappy phone you buy. (more…)

Japan’s Softbank is going to reduce monthly fees for the iPhone 3G in order to attract more customers. Softbank is willing to drop prices from 7,280 yen or $67 per month down to 2,990 yen or $27. That’s quite a price cut wouldn’t you say? I certainly hope that other carriers are watching this move.

The price cut will come from a reduced price of the data rate and it will certainly draw even more attention to the iPhone in Japan. More people should switch to the iPhone with this new low price offer.

Sprint isn’t doing that good right now. Sure they have released the Instinct and they are playing with their awaited WiMAX XOHM service. But in the same time they have sold a large number of their towers as they appear to desperately need money to pay off debts.

  • Ok now this is not cool Sprint! People are saying you’re going to upgrade data plans. And that’s not a good upgrade. They aren’t going to improve actual plans or data speeds. They are going to upgrade the costs. That means more money out of the subscribers pockets whether they are new or old. We’ve seen the signs when Sprint started to limit the data plans. And it’s not cool!

Their current Vision and Power Vision plans which are priced starting at $15/month will be canceled while the Everything plans starting at $69/month will be replacing them. Sprint will tell you how these plans include voice minutes, Sprint TV, GPS, the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but I don’t need all that. I want to be able to choose a simpler data plan for my email reading and web browsing. More than that, Sero subscribers will be affected too. Will their $30/month be replaced with $69/month plans?

I’ll have to cancel my Sprint data plan. Oh but wait, I am not a Sprint customer. Go ahead then Sprint, make it official. Increase the data plans costs as much as you want.

  • Samsung Instinct $129
Remember how a while ago I was comparing the Instinct from Samsung and the iPhone from Apple? Remember how I said that despite the fact the Instinct might be better than the iPhone, the iPhone 2 will kick Instinct’s ass? Boy was I wrong! I was expecting a lot more changes from Apple, and apparently I need to wait for a iPhone 3 one more year or so.

    Sprint to Limit Data Plans

    sprint
Sprint beware, the public is going to get angry!

They must have their own reasons for limiting their previous unlimited data plans for cell phones. More money for one thing. Their new plans will start July 13th and they will include a 5GB limit within Sprint’s network and only 300MB when roaming.

I am not saying this is necessarily a bad move, since Sprint is only going to do what the majority of carriers already does, but it will be definitely unpopular with those subscribers that chose Sprint precisely because of their data plans.
