Slacker Radio has been mentioned a couple of times at MW, once when they surpassed the 1 million mark download for BlackBerry, and another time when it joined forces with Verizon.
Well, the good news is users of the Palm webOS platform can now have access to Slacker Radio. These users will be able to create their own radio station and stream the content to the cellphone. Supported Palm models include the Pre, Pre Plus, Pixi, and Pixi Plus.
The new Slacker Radio for Palm OS is already available for download at their website.

Here’s a recent and somewhat disturbing development. The Treo Pro has vanished from Palm.com.
Whoa, does this mean that Palm is no longer selling this particular item? Does this mean that Palm is only concentrating on big ticket items such as the Pre and Pixi? I don’t see why not. Well, let us know if you see the Treo Pro on Palm.com, or anywhere else, for that matter.

Until a few days ago there was no way to record and share videos in webOS devices, but Palm has made an announcement that will change that deficiency.
Starting in February all the webOS devices will be able to record and share videos with other devices of the same kind. Think of the editing video tool that exists on the iPhone, because that’s what the webOS is going to have.
With that being said, users will be able to upload the video to YouTube, Facebook and other social media sites, as well as editing the video on the device.

When the MiFi was first announced it’s ability to act as a wireless hotspot wowed consumers. Well with the announcement of the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, Verizon and Palm had to do something that would make the device more desirable that their Sprint counterparts.
And what exactly would that be? A Mobile HotSpot app that turns the two devices into wireless hotspots featuring connectivity for up to 5 devices.
There’s no telling how much the app will cost or if it will make for additional monthly charges but we’ll let you know as soon as its made known.

Jon Rubinstein, CEO of Palm, recently took stage at this year’s CES to let us know that the Palm Pixi Plus is in fact a real device and is on its way to Verizon. If you’ll recall, rumors began circulating late last month that a device with this name would be hitting the streets at some point in the near future.
While you can read everything you want to know about the Pixi Plus in the press release here but notable features include 16GB of internal storage, WiFi and TouchStone compatibility.

While Apple’s App Store has just reached over 3 billion downloads, Palm’s App Catalog has only just made it to 1,000 apps available. To rememdy this, Palm has just announced at CES that they will be holding a Hot App giveaway where developers will compete for 10 million dollars.
There has yet to be announcements on the specifics of this giveaway but we do know that Palm will be giving away the money to developers with the highest app download count.

Believe it or not, it is true that Carphone Warehouse is giving away free airline tickets for customers that buy a Palm Pre. Does it sound like a good deal? It certainly is because it’s a 2-in-1 deal.
This special offer of two free airline tickets for every Palm Pre bought is only available until the end of January 2010, so you better make a decision real fast if you’re still undecided about buying a new smartphone. As you can imagine this deal is suppose to make the sales of the Palm Pre skyrocket, but we’ll have to wait and check if that is true.
Mobile phone network O2, which offers the Palm Pre under an exclusive deal in the UK, is believed to have mountains of unsold phones.

Pretty much everyone knows that the Palm Pre has been available since June of this year. You’ll likely also remember that Verizon said they would get the device not long after. However, we’ve yet to hear of a successor to the device.
Now, rumors have begun circulating about devices called the Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus appearing as webOS’s debut on Verizon. Unfortunately, there was no say of the possible upgrades the phones are to have.
While these rumors have yet to be confirmed, those who claim the rumor seem pretty positive.

We’ve already heard that the Palm Pre is coming to Verizon, but it is rumored that it will get the Pixi as well.
In fact, my Source says that these new Verizon/Palm offerings will include the Palm Pre Plus and the Palm Pixi, which also might be a plus, and they will run webOS 1.3.5 upon launch. I’m certain that there will be more developments at CES, so let’s just keep some suspense going.

According to my Source, Sprint is releasing an upgrade for the Palm Pre today. This upgrade, webOS 1.3.5 should hopefully fix a few problems.
What problems? How about the app storage limit, better performance, as well as battery life. We will see if webOS 1.3.5 is a fix for that.

Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein has today confirmed that an update is going to be pushed out at some point in the near future for their webOS mobile operating system.
The update will bring the software to version 1.3.5 and will offer improved battery life, speed and WiFi strength. Additionally, Rubinstein commented on bringing their devices to other carriers:
“We don’t believe in building large portfolios of products. Our focus is around having a small family of really great products. Right now we have two great products in Pre and Pixi and our objective right now is to expand with more carriers and more regions.”

Well, it seems that a Palm manufactured webOS powered device is inevitably coming to Verizon soon as the carrier has reportedly started internal training for the operating system.
As you can see from the above screenshot, the training begins on December 15th and ends on November 20th focusing on ‘Why Palm?’ and ‘What is webOS?’. This leads us to believe that Verizon will soon after begin a marketing campaign for Palm and webOS and are preparing their employees for the onslaught of consumer questions that will soon follow.
But that leads us to our next question; what webOS device is Verizon getting, and when.

Clearly the Palm Pixi is not a phone as good as the Pre. But if you want to buy the latest Palm smartphone as a gift to a special someone, you should know that a Pink version is coming out soon. According to rumors a pink Palm Pixi is coming by the end of the year so you can go ahead and start bothering Sprint customer support representatives for more information.
Unfortunately we have no pictures to show you at this time and we will advise you that the pink Pixi is still the same phone underneath that new colored case. And it’s still not as good as the Pre.

The Palm Pre is one of the phones that disappointed this year. Don’t get me wrong, the Pre is a great phone and I’ve said that a couple of times. But the Pre has disappointed by not becoming the hit iPhone competitor we believed it to be in the first half of the year.
And today we hear about a new problem related to the Pre. It looks like various people have reported issues with backing up their data. Some users have been trying to restore from a backup that doesn’t have their data. Palm has acknowledged the fact that some of its customers are encountering this problem and issued a brief statement on the matter:
We are seeing a small number of customers who have experienced issues transferring their Palm Profile information to another Palm webOS device. Palm and Sprint are working closely together to support these customers to successfully transfer their information to the new device.
Apparently if it happened to you, it’s your fault. You should definitely start nagging a Sprint representative in case you have been experiencing the issue!

The Palm Pixi has been launched officially this Sunday and Sprint customers can get it for $99.99 after rebates and with a 2-year new contract. But other retailers, like Amazon, are ready to offer the smartphone for a lot less. Amazon is going to sell the Pixi for just $25 but you will still have to get a new contract from Sprint.
So should you buy the Pixi now? Why not wait a while as I am sure the phone will be available for free on contract real soon. After all there are hotter phones out there worth purchasing with new contracts like the HTC Hero, the Motorola Droid, the BlackBerry Storm2, the HTC Droid Eris or the Samsung Behold II. What phone are you going to purchase these holidays?

The Pixi is supposed to be official this Sunday but it looks like the phone has already been spotted at certain Walmart locations. The Pixi is reported to have a $400 price tag at certain stores in Tennessee although that hasn’t been confirmed yet. In fact the Pixi hasn’t been spotted in Walmart’s system yet which means the phone is not available for purchase yet.
Will the Pixi be a hit phone or will it have to stay in the shadows of other smartphones like the Droid this winter? Will you buy a Pixi in the near future?

Sprint is really interested in selling the Pixi at any cost. In fact it would seem that the carrier has forgotten one important fact about the new Palm webOS phone: the Pixi lacks WiFi support which is a pretty annoying thing in the first place. But Sprint is announcing the fact that the Pixi is “WiFi capable.” As much as we’d like to imagine that the Pixi will arrive with WiFi support, that will not be the case this time. Maybe the future webOS Palm phone will offer WiFi but the Pixi won’t be able to sport such capabilities. So, Sprint, what do you have to say in your defense?

We’re really tired to see this weird game between Apple and Palm. It was a little funny at first but we should expect to see this mind games occur every now and then. Here’s how it works: Apple launches a new iTunes version that happens to block the Pre out and then Palm comes up with a solution that will allow iTunes synching again.
Apple has a new iTunes version available and naturally, Palm Pre owners won’t be able to use it, at least for the time being. Version 9.0.2 was launched this week and it’s still too early for Palm to release an iTunes syncing solution. The simplest thing you can do is not to download the upload and keep using your old iTunes version with your Pre. What do you think?
