An update for Palm’s webOS has been released today bringing the software up to version 1.3.1 for those of you on Sprint or Bell.

The update, which clocks in at 126MB, will allow for contact and calender syncing with Yahoo! along with Yahoo! IM. Additionally, users can now copy and forward a single text or IM and view a YouTube video in the OS’ native player after clicking on one in the web browser.

You can view the full change log after the break.

I don’t know about you guys but one of the first times I ever used a Palm Pre I tried to end the call by shutting down the slider to no success. According to the community, this is a widespread pet peeve but Palm has done nothing to remedy it.

Enter KeyToss, a home brew patch maker who has released a patch that allows you to end calls by shutting the slider and nothing more.

Interested? Head here for more information.

Verizon Wireless has just updated their Twitter feed letting us know that the Palm Pre will be hitting the carrier earlier than we expected.

As you can see from the above screen shot, Verizon expects to have the Palm Pre “early next year”. Exactly when early next year remains a mystery but at least those webOS fiends on Verizon now have something to look forward to.

Almost every single phone that receives any amount of hype is bound to get knocked off by some bootleg Chinese handset manufacturer. One phone we haven’t seen knocked off is the Palm Pre, until now, that is.

What you see above is said Palm Pre knock offd that features both a touch screen and slide out QWERTY keyboard. Additionally, it runs the OPhone OS, analog TV, an FM radio and Bluetooth.

Sounds pretty enticing, huh? If you really want such a knock off, it’ll run you right around $90.

Just yesterday we saw a GSM Palm Pre running on O2 Germany soothing the wounds of anyone who doubted the device’s European presence. Today, the Spanish carrier Telefonica has announced that they will be getting the webOS powered phone on October 14th.

According to Engadget, the device will range in prices of 0-219 depending on what contract. The only way to get the Pre for free is to pay 60 worth of voice in addition to 15 worth of voice.

So again, Palm Pre on Telefonica October 14th, got it?

It seems that the Palm Pre is finally making the jump to another carrier as what you see above is a GSM version of the device running on O2 Germany.

For those of you who have been following the device you’ll know that the Palm Pre was expected on O2 Germany sometime before the holiday season and, well, that time seems to be now.

As for those of you anxiously awaiting this device’s release, you can expect it to be made available for O2 Germany sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Late last month webOS 1.2 made its way onto the scene promising a few new features to make the update worthwhile. One thing it didn’t fix, however, is the Palm Pre’s syncing with iTunes which has been busted for some time now.

If you thought Palm was going to take the side lines and let Apple win you were wrong as they have recently pushed out webOS 1.2.1, a minor updating fixing a couple things with its most prominent feature the ability to sync with iTunes 9.0.1.

However, that’s not all, view the full change log after the break.

If rumors are to be believed, we may be seeing the Palm Pixi hitting Sprint on October 20th, just a few weeks away from today.

News comes to us from BGR who were apparently contacted by an anonymous source who told them that the Pixi would be made available in both Sprint and Best Buy retail locations.

Considering the Palm Pre hasn’t sold as well as Palm had hoped, doe the Pixi stand a chance?

Looking to pick up a Palm Pre but still haven’t done so perhaps you should head over to Walmart as they are holding a great deal for the phone. As you can see from the above screenshot Walmart will now be offering the Palm Pre for just $79.99 with a new 2-year contract.

This compares with Sprint’s Palm Pre price tag of $149.99 after a 2-year contract and $100 mail-in rebate. $70 savings? Count me in.

O2 has finally announced launch dates for the Palm Pre in three European countries. The phone will be available in Germany starting with October 13 while customers in UK and Ireland will be able to purchase Palm’s
webOS phone starting with October 16. In the UK the Pre will be available for free as long as you choose an 18- or 24-month contract starting at $72 per month so we should expect similar offers to become available soon in Germany and Ireland.

So there you have it folks, the GSM version of the Pre is getting ready for business in Europe which raises one important question: when will it be available in the USA?

Palm reveals Q1 2010

Palm may have the Pre and webOS behind them, but those assets alone evidentally haven’t been enough to bring the company back to greatness. Today, the Q1 2010 results were made known which state that Palm has sold 823,000 handsets (mostly the Pre) so far which may sound like a lot but the next bit of information isn’t all peaches.

It seems that Palm has posted a net loss of a staggering $164.5 million and, when compared to the $41.9 million Q1 2009 net loss, may show where the company is headed. Let’s hope the forthcoming Palm Pixi will spur sales or else Palm may be facing a grim future.

Palm Redesigns the App Catalog?

While Samsung is just beginning its Application Store adventure, Palm is working on improving the general aspect of its already launched App Catalog. It’s clear that Apple has implemented a key feature in this mobile modern business and everyone else is following the new trend. We couldn’t be happier since we do need all the mobile content we can get in order to go through our daily routines as smooth as possible. And Palm is apparently working on redesigning the App Catalog. The new features include credit card payments support, integrated app management, tag cloud support and a new page layout. We’ll be waiting for Palm to make everything official as the App Catalog should finally be filled with brand new applications! But what do you say Palm Pre users, are you ready to start purchasing more apps from the store?

It seems like Palm is a bit more lient than Apple in regards to what apps get accepted into the App Catalog as it was recently made known that a third party Google Voice client has hit the service.

The app in question is called gDial Pro and gives users full access to all of Google Voice’s features.

Now, let’s just hope Palm keeps this up and continues to let third-party apps into the App Catalog, something I’m sure you Palm Pre owners would be thankful for.

What you see above is the recently release patch notes for webOS 1.2 and as you can see, it clearly displays a release date of September 9th, 2009 (which is today for the oblivious folk out there). However, we have yet to year an official announcement from Palm or Sprint regarding the update, so it’s possible this could be an error.

Anyways, there aren’t many major changes included in the release log as its mostly full of bug fixes and the like. Now, you’re probably thinking to yourself how in the hell are you supposed to read the tiny font above, right?

Well, Sprint has them up here for a reason, duh.

  • Sprint has come up with quite the incentive — It seems that the carrier will offer those who port their numbers from another carrier and purchase a Palm Pre with a 2-year contract $100 worth of service credit.

Before you get too excited, know that Sprint has already pulled this promotion saying it was “put into the system in error”. However, those who purchased a Palm Pre during the promotion will be rewarded with the $100 worth of service credit.

Perhaps we will see this promotion resurface at some point in the near future?

What you see above is a new Palm Pre ad released by Canadian carrier Bell. Featured in the video is ‘Bradley’ who goes around meeting various Canadian athletes but not before taking a couple of shots at America.

First and foremost one of the first things Bradley says is, “Unlike our neighbors to the south, Canadians are an active people.” Throughout the ad there are a few more subtle insults, but nothing too gruesome.

Anyways, the ad does a great job showing consumers that the Palm Pre is your go anywhere, do anything device, from a camera and games to a calender and email. But wait, pretty much every handset phone out there can do those 4 things now, right?

Only joking, Palm, don’t hurt me.

Those on Verizon anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Palm Pre may not have much longer to wait. What you see above is a leaked screenshot taken of Verizon’s inventory database. As you can see, the item description displays PALM P101 SMTPHNE, could this possibly be the Palm Pre? It would make sense considering Sprint’s Palm Pre codename is the P100.

Additionally, screenshots were also found display phones such as the PALM 121 (Eos?), BlackBerry Storm 2, HTC TouchPro2 and Samsung Omnia II.

I’m not sure who voted it the “best mobile phone” but the Palm Pre is now officially available in Canada and Bell is the carrier that’s going to satisfy your Pre needs. The handset will cost just $199.95 with a 3-year new contract or $599.95 without a new contract. You will still be required to get at least a 500MB data plan in case you decide to pay the full price so now that you everything there is to know about a Pre from Bell you can go ahead and order yours today.

  • Palm has just announced that they are finally allowing app developers to submit their paid apps for App Catalog approval. This is great news for both developers who now have access to another market to make a profit, but also to Palm Pre owners.

Previously, Pre owners only had access to around 30 or so apps. Now that third party developers can submit their own apps Pre users will have hundreds if not thousands of apps to choose from.
