Nokia announced yesterday that they will be launching developer tools for their mobile platform Ovi.

This time, you don’t have to worry about which instant messaging app to find in your mobile phones. Emoze Now, best known for messaging solutions comes with the latest Nokia Series 40 platform. This means that mobile users can enjoy using their preferred messaging data such as Gmail, Hotmail, Facebook and so on.

You get the virtual PC style of enjoying these perks from these networks as it comes installed in the OVI download folder, allowing you to set it up instantly.

For those with more than one email address, or avid fans of social communities like Facebook, the emoze PRO version allows users to set up multiple messaging addresses for real-time delivery to their mobile phone for a nominal monthly charge.

The software is likewise free for download at this link which is compatible with most phones in use today.

No matter what some people say, Nokia is by far one of the best cell phone manufacturers out there. And it’s the Finns’ desire to provide customized software and various services to their customers that amazes me. The company keeps rolling out new phones and it keeps rolling out software for them.

Today Nokia launched the public beta version of Mail on Ovi. You can use your S40 handset to get a free email account and start mailing all your friends. Until now the beta was restricted to Malaysia, India and the Philippines but starting today it’s available worldwide and it comes with support for about a dozen languages.

Mail on Ovi is said to be similar to any PC-based email account. It will work an at least 110 million S40 phones sold in 2008 only. The number should actually be higher since these stats cover only the first 10 months of the year. And it’s 35 the number of different S40 handsets that can be used to run the beta mail service.

Why is Nokia going through all this trouble? Well why do companies bother in general? Money of course! Nokia doesn’t keep a secret the fact that it wants to make at least 2 billion euros annually starting with 2011 from Internet services like navigation, music, games, messaging and media. And they’re on the right track in my book!

Nokia to Acquire Plazes

Well Nokia can pretty much buy anything they want. They’re only first when it comes to counting how many cell phones one has sold so far this year. We’ve seen how they bought Norwegian Trolltech a while ago and now they are getting ready to buy out Plazes, a 13 people start-up German start-up company based in Berlin.

Curios what a Plazes is? It’s a social activity service which allows you to plan, record and share your social activities. Better set your stories straight as you will be able to check out where you were in the past, where you are in the present and what the future will have for you. Nope, it’s not a fortune telling app, but rather a detailed journal of your whereabouts. So be careful when you start introducing places in Nokia’s Plazes.

Nokia found the Plazes thing pretty interesting and worth buying it out. Nokia’s social environment will benefit from the addition of Plazes. The German application will add place and time as elements of social networking. Friends we’ll know when you were there and where you are now. Kinda like a Twitter for social events.

So Nokia, how much did you pay for Plazes?

Nokia and T-Mobile have announced today a plan for future collaboration. Their goal is to accelerate the implementation and further use of internet applications on mobile devices. T-Mobile’s customers will benefit from Nokia’s Ovi portal for apps, music, games, maps and more while Nokia will customize their services for T-Mobile.

This partnership will generate new widgets, more web applications and will possibly lead to a better integration of a social networking like T-Mobile’s My Faves. Nokia has signed similar deals with carriers like Telefonica, Vodafone and Orange and so it was just a matter of time until they got an agreement with T-Mobile. With iPhone breathing down their neck, Nokia will have to further develop their phones related applications and getting such partnerships with more carriers seems the smart way to do it.
