It’s been three months since the Nokia Ovi Store launched, and the mobile provider finally released download numbers on Thursday. Since May 26th, the Ovi Store has only had ten million downloads. Nokia has said that the average user has downloaded six items, resulting in only 1.67 million users using the store. These numbers, in comparison to the App Store’s 100 million downloads in two months, aren’t exactly appealing.
It’s important to note that that sales went up 50% from July to August, so there is still hope for the service. Fortunately, as announced yesterday, Nokia will be releasing developer tools to have more applications made for their store. Additionally, three new languages (Portuguese, French and simplified Chinese) will be supported by the end of the year. Nokia has also bumped their quota up to 500 applications will be approved every week.

Nokia has just launched its app store and it looks like the Ovi Store is already a success. At least that’s the first conclusion given the fact that Nokia’s servers have been overwhelmed with traffic. Nokia said that “shortly after launching, it began experiencing extraordinarily high spikes of traffic that resulted in some performance issues.” Well if I were Nokia, I’d be happy to get all that traffic.
While it’s understandable for curious users to start accessing the Ovi Store we should judge Nokia’s success in the app business later down the line. In the mean time Nokia will handle those traffic spikes by installing more server space. Your first Symbian downloads should be ready soon.

Faster than we actually expected, Nokia decided to officially launch its Ovi Store all around the world. If you own a Symbian S60 or S40 device and you need more mobile content then you should absolutely check the store out. Like we told you before, around 20,000 downloads will be waiting for you, including applications, games, videos, widgets and more. You will have the option of paying for everything right away with your credit card or waiting for the carrier to charge you for your downloads. What great Ovi Store application have you downloaded already?

Nokia’s own app store, the Ovi Store, has been soft launched in Australia, Ireland and Singapore. According to Nokia we should “expect a broader announcement and consumer availability soon.” We should probably see the Ovi Store available in other countries soon but we have no idea what soon actually means. In the mean time, check out the shots above for some Nokia Ovi Store action as it would show on a N97 or a 5800.

Nokia’s store is coming soon and the Finnish manufacturer is ready to make an impression with the Ovi Store. Word on the street is that Nokia’s Ovi Store will have 20,000 items ready to be downloaded when the store launches. That’s an impressive number comparable to Apple’s currently 40,000 applications in the App Store. We’re curious to see what items means as Nokia could easily include custom apps, WidSets, N-Gage games and even video and music downloard in the Ovi Store. Anyone anxious about the launch?
