Rather disturbing reports come from all across Europe as it looks like some iPhones and iPods have decided to explode all of a sudden. Does this mean you shouldn’t buy a new iPhone or iPod in Europe?
Apple did comment on the situation and here’s what it said:
To date, there are no confirmed battery overheating incidents for iPhone 3GS and the number of reports we are investigating is in the single digits
The iPhones with broken glass that we have analyzed to date show that in all cases the glass cracked due to an external force that was applied to the iPhone.
So far we’ve heard about incidents in France, UK, Holland and Sweden. People haven’t suffered major injuries yet but that doesn’t mean things couldn’t go worse. I’m sure nobody would appreciate pulling out glass shards from their eyes or ears. What about you? Did you have any problems with your new iPod or iPhone 3GS?

After acknowledging that iPhone overheating issue and providing guidelines to help you deal with it, Apple is now claiming that the phone is getting hotter and hotter because of the weather. That excuse is pretty lame people! We’d like to be treated like responsible adults and get a proper explanation. The iPhone is not the perfect phone out there so we’re not surprised it has flaws. It had flaws from the beginning but it still managed to become a hit phone. Sure it’s hot outside now and the weather could contribute to that overheating problem, but what will happen in a few months when the temperature outside will drop significantly? Will the iPhone freeze in winter? How’s your new iPhone 3GS treating you? Is it really hot?

The iPhone is a hot handset and we do mean its temperature. The phone can overheat and that can be pretty annoying. Even Apple has officially acknowledged the problem. A little late you might say since the iPhone has been around for more than two years. Nevertheless the company has released a document concerning the issue. It refers to iPhone 3G or 3GS acceptable operating temperatures. Remember to keep the phone between 32º and 95º F when using it or between -4º and 113º F when simply storing it and you should be fine. That means you should let the phone cool down whenever you feel it’s too hot to play with. In case it keeps overheating you’ll notice unwanted side effects like shorter battery life, display dimming, connection loss and more. And you don’t want that, do you?

The iPhone 3G had a problem with their back cracking with seemingly no reason and now the iPhone 3GS has run into a similar problem, this time with discoloration.
It seems that one user discovered his iPhone 3GS was overheating, a lot, due to him using the phone’s GPS nad 3G capabilities. This is all fine but and dandy (well, not really) but after the overheating he discovered that the back of his white iPhone was slightly discolored.
We’re not sure if this is an isolated instance or a wide spread problem. But either way Apple is sure to provide users plagued with this problem an alternate phone. Anyone else experiencing this?
