All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

The Droid and the Droid Eris have been available for almost five days now and from the looks of it the phones are already bringing in some serious cash. The most popular of the both is definitely the Motorola Droid and you must surely agree that the Droid is an exceptional Android machine.

But neither of them is perfect. In fact there are quite a few issues that need to be fixed so both the Droid and the Droid Eris will receive an update in the near future. And it’s not customers complaining about the phones but it’s Verizon. The carrier has already found various things that need attention and it has leaked no less than twelve pages filled with complaints (five for the Droid and seven for the Droid Eris.) Everything will be sorted out by two firmware updates that are supposed to arrive in December and January. We don’t have any exact dates for you so in the mean time feel free to tell us what’s wrong with the Droid from your point of view.

Palm has a new update for your favorite mobile phone. webOS 1.0.4 is ready to be transferred over the air to your Palm Pre right away. The software will fix some corporate Exchange issues, bugs and most importantly that homebrew app thing that could have been used for installing home-made apps on the Pre. So there you have it folks, if you haven’t gotten custom apps on the Pre just yet then you might be too late. Or you could always choose not to update just yet!

Palm Pre vs iPhone 3GS will be an interesting fight to watch. On one hand we have the rebirth of a cell phone manufacturer and on the other hand we have a young but evermore popular cell phone manufacturer. Both Palm and Apple have released two amazing cell phones, the Pre and the iPhone 3GS and it will be hard to chose one to take home.

And while the eyes of the world are focused on the WWDC in San Francisco, Palm isn’t wasting any time. Over the weekend the first webOS update went live. Version 1.0.2 is now available and it’s supposed to bring stability to your Pre and a new alarm clock. In case you didn’t get it already then go to your Sprint updater and download it OTA style.

As for the SDK, don’t worry developers, Palm said soon. There’s no actual date but you will be programing applications for Palm’s new hot OS soon enough. And when you do, make sure you drop us a line!

That Cupcake or the Android 1.5 update is going to arrive soon but we all knew that. We were still waiting for an official released date and it has been finally leaked. T-Mobile will release the Cupcake update over-the-air starting with May 11. Not everyone will receive the update at once since T-Mobile will roll it out in phases. By the end of this month all Android users should have their devices upgraded, so don’t get all scared if you aren’t among the first lucky ones to get it.

  • An HTC phone belonging to a Telstra exec disappeared during last week’s MWC. Everyone that knew about it, is probably waiting for hot stuff to come out of it. At least some hot hands-on Windows Mobile 6.5 videos. Well that will never happen as the phone has been wiped out already, over the air. Microsoft personally took care of that. It wiped all traces of the operating system and user data from the mobile as soon as it has been reported stolen. It’s good to know one will be able to protect private data with that new Microsoft mobile OS. But how do you feel knowing that Microsoft can erase stuff from your phone? Hopefully that kind of technology will never fall in the wrong hands.

Apple Drops DRM on iTunes Music

People say Apple has decided to drop DRM from iTunes Music, which is great news. We have been really looking forward to this and Apple executives have decided to close the deal at the beginning of this year. While Apple hasn’t announced it officially yet we’re counting on it to do so in the following days.

Older songs will cost now just $0.79 but new songs might be more expensive than the regular $0.99. You could expect a whole dollar to be added to that price. But hey, we’re going to have DRM-free music which is really cool. On top of that people say that Apple will allow us to get music downloads over the 3G air. We will get back to you when the official announcement has been made. Until then we’ll just cross our fingers hoping that nothing will go wrong in the mean time.
