It looks like Motorola fans over the pond will be able to enjoy the company’s first Android phone earlier than everyone else. The DEXT is available already in the UK from Orange so go get it while it’s hot. The phone will be available for free if you select a 2-year contract of at least £34.26 per month. For that monthly tariff you will get 900 any network voice minutes, unlimited SMS messages, Orange Maps and anytime Internet browsing.

On comparison, the CLIQ will be available from T-Mobile USA for pre-order on October 19 for $199.99 on contract. Will the CLIQ/DEXT be a hit phone? Do you intend to purchase it?

Remember that GW300 phone from LG which we showed you a while ago? Well this BlackBerry-like phone will be available in the UK from O2 and Orange. The price hasn’t been officially announced yet but you should be able to get it for a pretty good price, if not free, with new contracts. The phone has very limited features to offer you but it will be a great messaging phone, if that’s what you require. The GW300 comes with a 2.4-inch screen, a full QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth 2.1, 2-megapixel camera, 10MB of internal memory upgradeable up to 4GB via microSD cards and some extra features like Facebook app and LiveSquare.

  • Don’t look so surprised by that number! Windows Mobile 6.5 is coming and it looks like there are quite a few phone makers ready to roll phone capable or running Microsoft’s newest OS. And while we’re definitely thrilled to see that concept tablet, the Courier already, we can’t say we’re similarly interested in Windows Mobile 6.5. The OS is clearly a transition platform from the old Windows Mobile 6 to the future Windows Mobile 7.

Nonetheless manufacturers out there are ready to launch Windows Mobile 6.5 phones! Those 30 new handsets capable of running Microsoft latest OS will be made by HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Acer, Toshiba and HP. The phones will be released by the end of the year and we know a few carriers are definitely interested: AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone, NTT DoCoMo, Softbank Mobile, SKT, Telestra and Telus.

Will you buy a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone?

It’s been a while since we heard of ITG’s xpPhone in fact, the last we heard of it was back at Computex. Well, the device seems to have graduated from the drawing board and is now dangerously close to hitting Vodafone, Orange and AT&T.

As you can see, the device packs quite a punch with its 4.8-inch touchscreen display, video conferencing and 3G compatibility. One major thing to make note of is the fact that its primary operating system is Microsoft’s beloved Windows XP.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) ITG has yet to mention a price so when you actually go to pre-order the xpPhone, you won’t have to pay anything.

While we are patiently waiting for T-Mobile to announce Motorola’s first Android phone, the Cliq, Orange UK has gone ahead and announced the Cliq already. We were expecting this move, so it’s really no surprise there! Sure the phone will have a different name over there and you already know it: the DEXT.

The DEXT will be available at the beginning of October and those interested in purchasing it should know it will be available for free provided that you select a new 2-year contract of at least £34.26/month (that’s about $56.50). That monthly fee will get you 900 voice minutes, unlimited texting, data and Orange Maps support. Not a bad deal considering that you’d get to play with a brand new Android phone which comes with a load of social networking skills. So if you happen to live in the UK and you’re getting ready to snatch a DEXT, let us know how the phone is treating you!

Deutsche Telekom seems to be more and more interested in mergers. After we’ve heard how its T-Mobile UK division will join forces with Orange UK, we now hear that the German conglomerate has a new target in sight. Sprint Nextel might be the company that Deutsche Telekom will purchase and this isn’t the first time we hear about it. That means Sprint Nextel will merge with T-Mobile USA and AT&T’s comfortable second largest position will be threatened by the new emerging carrier.

Don’t get all too excited just yet folks. Said merger will not be a piece of cake and it will take a while to be accomplished. In the mean time Deutsche Telekom is being advised by Deutsche Bank on the matter and we should see an offer in the following weeks. We’ll be back with more details soon as this is a very important move in the mobile business.

The Cliq is an Android phone created by Motorola and it’s a T-Mobile exclusive. The phone will be available in time for the holidays and it’s going to be the first phone coming with social skills. We’ve just seen Motorola’s latest service, MOTOBLUR which will put to the test your networking skills!

The Cliq is a phone made for heavy texters. It has a generous screen and a full QWERTY keyboard. It will be available in Winter White and Titanium in the fourth quarter when it rolls out.

The Cliq will offer you 3G and WiFi connectivity, a 5-megapixel camera with 24fps video-recording, a 3.5mm headphone jack and of course, MOTOBLUR on top of Android. The phone will be available in Europe in 2010 as the DEXT from Orange while America Movil and Telefonica will also launch the device sometime next year.

We’ve heard for quite a while now that Deutsche Telekom was interested in getting rid of T-Mobile UK. And now we hear that the German giant has been secretly speaking to the French giant, France Telecom about the possible marriage between T-Mobile UK and Orange UK.

The merger will be completed in the following months and the future T-Mobile/Orange UK carrier will probably become the largest in UK. We’ll tell you more in the near future as the deal is expected to be completed by October. So what do you say folks in Britain? How do you see this potential merger?

  • We’ve been hearing about LG’s GD910 watch phone for too long now and yet still haven’t heard of a solid release date or price point. Luckily, Orange UK has recently told us that the watch phone will be priced at  £500 or about $825, on August 27th of this year.

While this may seem like an enormous price tag for such a small device, it’s dramatically less than the ~$1,290 Orange estimated it to cost earlier this month.

Anyone out there eagerly awaiting the GD910’s launch?

Remember LG’s watchphone which we showed you a long time ago? Well it seems that LG is ready to offer it for sale in the UK this August. Orange UK is apparently the carrier that has the exclusivity for the GD910 so that’s where you should head to for specific pricing details. Despite being a pretty small cellphone you can expect it to cost at least $1,000 if not more. Other European markets should also start selling the GD910 but we’ll keep you updated.

    Land Rover S1 Cell Phone

Besides cars Land Rover is able to manufacture cell phones too. And the company seems to follow the same concepts when building phones as they do when making cars. Land Rover phones are very durable and you can expect them to withstand some harsh conditions.

The S1 is so tough that it could actually stand being run over by an actual car. The phone can resist temperatures of up to 300 degrees, it can be immersed in water or any other liquids and it will surely work nicely in colder environments.

Unfortunately this S1 phone is not a smartphone. It offers features like a 2.0 megapixel camera, a battery capable of 1,500 hours of life and a loud ringtone which you’ll never miss. The phone is currently available in the UK for £25 per month with an Orange contract or for £249.99 from Tesco.

HTC Hero Gets Approved by the FCC

The Hero has been approved by the FCC now and the newest HTC Android phone is ready for the U.S. market. The FCC mentions that the Hero comes with 850/1900 MHz 3G support which suggests that AT&T could launch the Hero at some point in the future. A few days ago we heard that Sprint is going to get the Hero but according to the FCC there’s no CDMA support for it. Is HTC going to create a CDMA version of it? In the mean time the phone is already scheduled for two European markets, with Orange UK and Orange Spain preparing to sell it in the UK and Spain. We’ll keep you posted once other carriers decide to commercialize the Hero!

  • Besides Orange UK it seems that Orange Spain is also going to sell the HTC Hero soon. And we should safely assume that Orange will consider bring the Hero to other markets too. In the mean time the phone will be available to Spanish customers for 99 Euro when purchased with a monthly plan of at least 29 Euro. In case you’re going to pre-order it online, you can get the phone for just 89 Euro. The Hero will be available in Orange stores sometime next week and in case you don’t want a new agreement you’ll be able to get the newest HTC Android phone for somewhere around 500 Euro. What do you think?

HTC Hero Appears on Orange UK

We have no official launch dates for the HTC Hero just yet but it looks like carriers around the world are preparing for a future launch. One of them is Orange UK and it’s really interested in the Hero. How else could you explain the appearance of the handset on the official Orange UK site? In fact the company is testing the device as we speak and pricing details could be unveiled as soon as tomorrow. The phone will probably be available for free provided that you choose a pricier new plan but we’ll tell you more about it pretty soon.

One of the many awaited smartphones this season, the Samsung i8910 or the Omnia HD, has quietly joined the ranks on Orange in the United Kingdom.  The Omnia HD was scheduled for a release in Italy last month and it is now the turn of the English folk to enjoy high-def videos and snap top-quality pictures with its 8-megapixel camera.  The Symbian S60-powered handset is available for 97.50 GBP on a 34.25 GBP monthly plan with a one-and-a-half year contract or 293.50 GBP with a 24.46GBP per month contract.  These prices hold good only if the i8910 is ordered online and be ready to cough up an extra 5GBP per month if you plan on visiting a store nearby.   If you don’t what makes this cellphone that expensive, head over here to know what the specs look like.

Timotheus Hoettges the CFO from Deutsche Telekom, the mothership of all T-Mobiles out there, said at a recent shareholder meeting that T-Mobile UK will have to merge with another carrier or else face the possibility of going under. That’s not exactly a nice prospect is it? Hoettges said that:”in our view consolidation is a means to take excess capabilities out of the market,” and that “nothing is unthinkable on our side.”

So what carrier will T-Mobile UK choose for its future merger? Is it going to be 3 which is ranked as the fifth UK carrier, or will it be one of the other important 3: O2, Orange and Vodafone?

Nokia’s first touchscreen handset, the 5800 XpressMusic comes with a surprise for UK customers. Depending if you love Star Trek or not you’ll either love the new design or simply hate it. Starting with May 1 the phone will be available in a Star Trek version. The ultimate Trekkie accessory comes in three versions, red, blue and black/silver. The great part about it is that the phone will be available free of charge as long as the customer will choose at least a £25 a month plan from either carrier. You can choose from Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile and Orange since the phone is sold by Phones 4U anyway.

The phone will offer you lots of Star Trek-related content: screenpapers, wallpapers and exclusive ringtones like: Phaser Shot, Kelvin Communicator and more. What do you say? Are you going to get one?

While people kept fantasizing about an iPhone nano I was trying to find a good explanation for using such a small touchscreen phone. The iPhone nano was not confirmed by Apple and for those that still want a small touchscreen phone there’s an alternative in the UK. Orange Vegas is the smallest and probably the cheapest touchscreen handset. The Vegas has a 2.4-inch display, a 1.3 megapixel camera, FM radio, MP3 playback. 128MB of internal memory upgradable via microSD to up to 4GB. The phone is available for $71 with pay-as-you-go plans. For every £10 credit you will also get 300 free SMS messages, £10 and unlimited access to services like Bebo, Facebook and MySpace. So are you sure you want a small touchscreen?
