Rumors have just surfaced that suggest that Samsung’s Omnia II will be hitting Verizon Wireless sometime later this month.

That’s all fine and dandy considering the Omnia II is a beautiful handset but there’s just one problem with this rumor; Verizon’s Omnia II is expected to ship with Windows Mobile 6.1. If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know that Windows Mobile 6.5 powered devices will be shipping later this month, so why not the Omnia II?

Well, the same rumors say that although a 6.5 update will be in the pipeline it won’t actually be pushed out until some time after the phone goes on sale.

If this is true, what gives?

We first officially heard of the Samsung Omnia II way back in June when we pondered if it would be making its way onto Verizon Wireless. Well today we have official confirmation that the device will in fact hit Verizon at a currently unannounced date.

As you can see above, this Omnia II features a slight hardware revision over the one we saw back in June. No, it doesn’t have an updated camera or anything but it does do away with the cubic center button. Otherwise, the handset features a 3.7-inch AMOLED display, Windows Mobile, and Samsung’s TouchWiz 2.0 UI.

We’ll keep you updated as an official Verizon Wireless release date is made known.

Windows Mobile 6.5 devices are slated to hit store shelves early next month and it seems that Samsung’s next-gen OmniaPRO will be their debut WinMo 6.5 device. However, this does not mean previous generation Omnias, namely the OmniaPRO B7610, B7320 and Omnia II, in addition to soon to be released OmniaLite, will be left in the dust.

All of the above mentioned phones will in fact be getting their operating systems updated to Windows Mobile 6.5 when the OmniaPRO B7330 hits store shelves early next month.

If you happen to own an Omnia i900 phone from Samsung then you might be one of those lucky fellows that can honestly say they have taken a peak at Samsung’s upcoming Application Store. Unfortunately you’d have to go the UK, Italy or France as that’s where the store has been made available so far.

The store offers so far about 300 paid apps and lots of free apps ready to be installed on your Samsung phones. By the end of the year Samsung will have around 2,000 apps in the store. It’s not too much, but it’s a healthy start. Besides the i900, the Omnia II I8000 and the Omnia LTE B7300 will also get support for accessing the new Application Store. Anyone excited about the new app store?

The Omnia II is definitely one of the best phones Samsung will launch this year. And if you’re already a big fan of the I8000 and you’re not affected by the recession then you should be able to pre-order the smartphone right now. The Omnia II has been spotted on Amazon but it’s currently priced at $999.99. What do you think? Better wait for that price to drop? Or are you going to buy yours today?

Those on Verizon anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Palm Pre may not have much longer to wait. What you see above is a leaked screenshot taken of Verizon’s inventory database. As you can see, the item description displays PALM P101 SMTPHNE, could this possibly be the Palm Pre? It would make sense considering Sprint’s Palm Pre codename is the P100.

Additionally, screenshots were also found display phones such as the PALM 121 (Eos?), BlackBerry Storm 2, HTC TouchPro2 and Samsung Omnia II.

Don’t get all too excited folks, nothing is official right now, but it looks like Big Red is getting ready to launch the Samsung Omnia II soon. As you can see on the Samsung Mobile USA website there’s a page dedicated to the Omnia II and Verizon’s logo is written all over it. The page doesn’t say much about the phone, but it does offer a sign up form for getting more details about the actual launch of the phone. What do you think guys? Will the phone be available by October?

HTC Mega Screenshots Get Leaked

We have more leaked stuff for you and this time we’re looking at HTC Mega screenshots. The Mega will be a mid-ranged Windows Mobile phone and while the phone hasn’t been officially launched yet we can already take a look at HTC’s vision of Windows Mobile 6.5. And since we have seen earlier Samsung’s WinMo 6.5 approach for the Omnia II, which version will you rather own? What would you choose between a Samsung and an HTC Windows Mobile 6.5 phone?

Samsung has today released the full list of countries that will be getting the Omnia II at some point this month including France, the UK, Germany and Australia. However, the United States failed to make the cut, what gives?

Considering the device was slated for an August 23rd Best Buy release a few days ago we can only point towards some sort of problematic delay as the cause.

Hit the read link for the full list of countries that will be getting Samsung’s Windows Mobile powered Omnia II this month.

American consumers who have been tracking the Omnia II’s every move will be happy to hear that the handset has recently made its way through the FCC.

The Omnia II is a Windows Mobile powered handset that features a touchscreen 3.7-inch AMOLED display, an 800MHz processor, 5MP camera with 720 x 480 video recording and a 7.2Mbps HSPA.

We’re not positive when it will actually be made available for purchase but considering the FCC model is specced for AT&T, I think it’s safe to say we’ll see the phone on said carrier soon enough.

  • Can’t wait to get your hands on Samsung’s Omnia II? Well grab the first flight departing to Singapore this weekend. That’s where the phone will be launched already. The phone will be available of around $618 off contract. Add to that the roundtrip plane fare and you’re going to get your Omnia II earlier than everyone else. So what about other markets Samsung? When will the rest of us mortals see the Omnia II in stores?

Are you anxious to get that Omnia II from Samsung? It looks like Verizon Wireless is already planning a July release although there’s nothing official yet. I guess Verizon picking up the Omnia II is the logical step to follow since Verizon is already selling the first Omnia phone. We’re still waiting for prices and some official details from Big Red and while we do that we can definitely wonder if the Jet is also coming. I hear it sells like hot cakes in Korea!

    Samsung Omnia II official

If you were bummed about the Samsung Jet’s US availability you have no worries because the almost identical looking Omnia II (pictured above) was just announced. This handset will be the successor to the Omnia and will feature specs identical to what was leaked earlier this month.

Samsung’s Omnia II will feature a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen with resistive touch, Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional with Samsung’s TouchWiz 2.0 UI, the ability to playback and record 480p video, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, Wi-Fi and up to 48GB of storage.

Now considering Samsung’s original Omnia was on Verizon I think it’s safe to assume the Omnia II will also make its way to the carrier at some point in the near future.

    Samsung Omnia 2 Leaks Already?

The Pre and the iPhone 3GS are out in the open and in about 10 days they will be selling together. I guess everyone else in the business is considering ideas to try to fight against these two hot phones. That’s why Samsung someone probably leaked the GT-I8000 or the Omnia II to the public. The phone will offer a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display, an 8.1 megapixel camera with dual-LEDs and VGA video recording, a 1500mAh battery, HSDPA connectivity, Windows Mobile (dare we say 6.5?) and a custom UI similar to the one on the S8000. With arrival dates and prices still hidden for the public eye will the Omnia 2 sell as good as the Pre or the iPhone 3GS? Will anyone wait for this baby to be officially launched? And just for the record, this is another Samsung phone dubbed as the Omnia 2 and we hope this time it’s the real thing!
