08 Jan 09 Palm Launches the Palm pre

The new Palm handset we’ve been waiting for is the just announced Palm pre. The phone comes with a 3.1 inch multitouch display with a resolution of 320 x 480. A full QWERTY keyboard is ready to slide out underneath and there’s an accelerometer ready, just in case you want to browse the internet in a widescreen fashion. 3G is possible via EVDO REV. A and there’s 802.11b/g WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth with A2Dp and a 3 megapixel camera with LED flash. The pre is running on the new Palm platform and it packs a new TI OMAP CPU to make everything run smoother. It comes with just 8GB of built-in flash storage space which should be more than enough in these first versions. There’s also a microUSB plug and a 3.5 mm headphone jack for you.

The pre is supposed to arrive from Sprint in the first half of 2009 but we have no idea how much it will cost yet. Will it get us any copy-paste support?

05 Jan 09 Rumored: Palm to Launch Nova Phone on Thursday

It’s rumored that Palm will not only launch its expected Nova OS but that it will also launch a phone running on Nova this Thursday. CES 2009 is said to deliver this Thursday a new Palm phone which will have a full touchscreen and a QWERTY keyboard ready to slide underneath it.

We don’t have any actual facts yet so we will have to wait a few days to see if Palm will actually launch the phone or not. Palm should at least get the Nova OS out in the open as we have been waiting for it for quit a while now.

19 Dec 08 Palm Nova at CES 2009: Not Officially Official Yet

We’re actually anxious to see what Palm’s Nova OS is like. But right now we don’t know what to think about Palm’s intention of revealing the new OS at the CES 2009. In an earnings call yesterday, the company said it will transition it’s entire lineup to the Nova but it will still continue to roll out Windows Mobile devices like the Treo Pro.

Getting back to the Nova, the system will be launched in the first half of the year. Palm has failed to confirm the presence of the Nova at this next CES although we are suspecting the OS is definitely coming to Vegas. It’s also said that developers have gotten their hands on the Nova which means we deserve at least a few leaked shots, or dare I say videos, of the Nova in action!

16 Dec 08 Palm Opens up Its Own App Store

I bet that you weren’t expecting this to happen although it did. Palm opens up its own app store. Since everyone else has a store, why shouldn’t Palm get one too right? Especially with that Nova OS which so many people are claiming we’re going to see at the CES 2009.

Palm has partnered with PocketGear for the app store and no0w it has over 5,000 applications available; 1,000 of those being free. Will it measure up to the competition’s? Provided that Palm will finally launch the Nova and a totally new handset, then yes, it should.

14 Dec 08 New Palm and New OS to Arrive at CES 2009

What do you know new about Palm lately? Not that much do you? But the company isn’t dead. Far from it. It looks Palm has some surprises ready for CES 2009. A new product is supposed to be revealed and a new OS.

Here’s what an analyst for CL King & Associates, Lawrance Harris, said:

It’s quite likely, actually close to a certainty, that they will show a new OS, new user interface and probably new hardware. This is Palm’s last shot to prove it has what it takes to survive in a very competitive market.

The new OS is the Nova. We’ve heard before about this Linux-based OS before and we were expecting it to arrive sometime in 2009. Possibly early 2009? The Nova should bring us that much needed 3G support as we’re all expecting the new Palm handsets to be 3G ready.

Looking forward to CES 2009 then. Who knows what will happen?
