We often talk about laptops and their batteries. We’ve heard how various manufacturers promised long lasting batteries for our future next notebooks. And I am not talking about the small netbooks which require less juice to work.

Pixel Qi might be the company that’s going to deliver a 40-hours laptop battery up and running sometime in the second half of 2009. Imagine being able to use a laptop for a whole day and even more without a charge. We’ll be back with more news when these batteries become available.

AMD Says No to Netbook Business

In case you are waiting for the first nebook to pack any other processor than the current Intel Atom than you are in for a surprise. AMD won’t enter the netbook business. Why do they want to do such a thing? Well CEO Dirk Meyer is simply ignoring it:

We’re ignoring the Netbook phenomenon—just thinking about PC form factors above that form factor.

AMD says that people, dissatisfied with them netbooks have turned to AMD computers. Hmmm, the grapes might be sour for AMD. I am surely no netbook lover, but I can count the million units sold so far. And manufacturers keep making more.

We already know about Asus‘ intentions to release a touchscreen Eee PC. But the computers manufacturer won’t stop there. In preparation for Windows 7 which will show officially up next year, Asus will have several laptops with touchscreens waiting for Microsoft’s new OS. There’s not much info about the new computers but it’s said that Asus will worki with AU Optronics or Chi Mei Optoelectronics 11.6 or 12.1 inch versions. We’re in for a long wait. 2009 is still far away and Asus has plenty of time to announce features and prices for the upcoming touchscreen laptops.

We’re about six hours away of the Apple MacBook event and we are anxious to see if any of the rumors we’ve had so far will be confirmed. So far we’ve seen the Brick Aluminum design; we’ve heard about the Apple netbook which is supposed to cost around $900; we’ve seen Best Buy prices which also revealed different color schemes and we’ve read quite a lot about the price cut everyone is expecting.

We don’t know that many things about the Air and we hope we will be in for some surprises. As we did with other Apple events, we’re going to keep you updated later on today when we’re going to be covering the event.

Dell to Launch 12 Inch E Slim?

If you remember correctly, when we started talking about Dell’s notebooks, the E Slim line, we had some leaked info according to which Dell was supposed to launch multiple notebooks of different sizes. We already have the Inspiron Mini 9 but that’s about it.

So what do we have in the picture here? It might just be the 12 inch Dell E Slim notebook we have been waiting for. We don’t have anything official yet but who knows what next week will bring. Besides the new Apples we might see new Dell showing up.

MSI Wind U120, Next-Gen Netbooks?

Asus is ready to install touchscreens in their future netbooks, but in the mean time MSI is ready to launch their next generation netbooks the Wind 2. The Wind U120 is a 10 inch netbook which will have a 120GB HDD or a choice of SSD, 802.11n WiFi and 3G via HSDPA. The exterior looks pretty much like its predecessor, but I think you should be interested in what’s inside.

The U120 is coming this December and it will cost around $600.

Besides the aluminum brick rumor and the already leaked photos of it, we have found another rumor worth spreading. Although there’s no confirmation yet from Apple it looks like various retailers have received inventory info showing an $800 laptop coming. Could it be Apple’s first netbook? I was wondering when would they start making them. Besides this the $800 model a whole new list of notebooks are rumored to be on the same inventory list.

What say you Apple? What about the MacBook event?

Dell has recently launched its netbook line. The Inspiron Mini 9 entered the market a little late, but I am confident it will catch the competition soon. And Dell went ahead and made its netbook available with Linux OS but with a twist. If you want to choose Ubuntu 8.04 as your default operating system then you will automatically choose the 8GB SSD model. If you want more memory, better get a card or an external hard drive.

The Mini 9 Linux version costs £269 or $472 while the Windows XP version costs £299 or $525.

Rumored: MacBook Brick?

With 9 days left until the Mac event, more and more rumors are getting released. Most of recent ones talk about are either “leaked” shots or stories about how new Macs are being made.

This rumor right here says Apple is manufacturing MacBook cases from a single piece of Aluminum. That would be the MacBook Brick. If that’s true, may we please have a location of the plant that’s supposed to make them? If it’s true, how come we didn’t hear anything about it earlier?

I’m looking forward to see what Apple is going to pull of on October 14th. And I am interested in more than just the deign.

  • HP is trying to reinvent itself or what? I guess all PC manufacturers should be getting their act together and come up with some new models right about now. The Mac special event is due to arrive and I’m sure a lot of people would want a new Mac no matter if they end up buying one or not.

HP has launched two new special edition laptops. The dv4t and the dv5t. The first has a 14.1 inch with WXGA panel, 4GB of DDR2 RAM, a NVIDIA 512MB GeForce 9200M GS, a Core 2 Duo processor of your liking, up to 400GB of HDD space, WiFi and WWAN and an integrated HDTV hybrid tuner. The dv5t has a 15.4 inch LCD, GMA4500MHD integrated graphics, Blu-ray besides what you’ve already read about the dv4t.

What’s special about these two laptops? I guess it must be the fancy design, right? Pricing starts at $1,099.99 for the dv4t and at $949 for the dv5t.

Here are two of Lenovo’s newest ThinkPads. One is the X200t tablet and the other one is the laptop version codenamed X200s. The tablet comes as an X61t replacement. In October when both of them will finally be available they will cost anywhere from $2,325, with the tablet getting the more expensive price.

Inside there’s a processor ranging from 1.2GHz SU9300 Core 2 Duo to a 1.86GHz SL9400, up to 4GB of RAM, a 128GB Samsung SSD, integrated graphics card, WWAN, WiMAX and UWB. Built-in GPS comes with the WWAN option A Led backlit screen and a battery running about 15 hours complete the specs. Reduced touch pressure with Wacom digitizer and a dual swivel hinge will be some of the feature you will come to love.

Although expensive, I’d consider the tablet version if I was looking for a new tablet. What do you think?

    Commodore Netbook Anyone?

The simple word Commodore brings back good memories for lots of grown ups. Well in case you want a modern Commodore gadget in your home, look for the Commodore UMMD 8010/F netbook.

And now get ready for the Eee deja-vu part. The Commodore netbook spotted at the IFA in Berlin will have a 10 inch display, a 1.6GHz Via C7-M processor, an 80GB HDD, 1GB or RAM, a 1.3 megapixel camera 802.11b/g WiFi and Bluetooth. Well not exactly a deja-vu here, but the numbers in those features are similar to so many netbooks currently available. The pricing is rather high as this one will cost $610. I’m guessing we’re paying for the name more than for the actual specs there.

In case you’ll be needing desperately a Commodore netbook, go look for Dutch company Yeahronimo Media Ventures as they are the ones that own the name and the device.
