Don’t get all too excited since this isn’t official news. You can get mildly excited though since we expect HP to launch new netbooks in the near future. So why wouldn’t this new netbooks be 10.1- and 11.6-inch ultra-slim machines?
The word on the street is that HP has hired Quanta to make the 11.6-inch netbook this August while the 10.1-inch netbook is due before the end of the year. Inventec is also going to make netbooks for HP but these are revisions of HP’s 10.1-inch netbook. Ever since the netbook craze started, companies, Asus and Acer especially, have been pumping out new models at an alarming rate.
Well, it seems that the duo is finally taking a break as reports have emerged that the two companies will put a hold on any new netbook models until 2010. This delay is apparantly due to Intel waiting until early 2010 to debut their Pine Trail-M platform.
For now, Asus and Acer will reportedly focus on producing ultra-thin laptops for the rest of 2009.

Before I even start this one out I have to tell you folks that the video above was created for a product management class. Unfortunately this is not the MacBook Touch just yet but it might very well be in a little time. It’s a remarkable concept which people would probably love having around. We have just heard today a rumor saying that Apple and Verizon will launch the first MacBook tablet so this video fits perfectly with it. It’s what some customers want and we’re probably going to see Apple deliver.
What do you want out of a MacBook Touch (or whatever name it will be given)?

By now everyone interested in tech-related issues knows that Google wants to enter an important market. The company is ready to offer a new OS to everyone that owns a computer. Google OS, which we showed you yesterday, will be available to every laptop, desktop or netbook out there. And today we have the first leaked shots of the new OS.
Apparently a very minimal Chrome OS has been offered to a company that supplies parts for Acer and someone took pictures of it. On the other hand, these photos could have easily been photoshopped, and we have to suspect they were forged just as we do with every other leaked pictures. Let’s see if Google will deny anything!

When Google released their Chrome web browser, it took the world by surprise but seemed like the logical next step for the mega company. Well, it looks like they are expanding past a web browser and even past their mobile Android OS with the introduction of Google Chrome OS.
This will be a full fledged open source operating system built from the ground up. Its focus will be on speed, security and simplicity much like the Google Chrome web browser and Android OS.
Google says that they are working on making netbooks running Google Chrome OS for availability sometime in 2010. Your move Apple and Microsoft.

We can honestly say that we knew this was bound to happen. The minute Intel and Nokia shook hands thinking at the future of mobile devices, people must have started wandering when the first Nokia laptop should arrive. And Nokia is on track with its laptop plans for this year. Together with Intel it will launch an Atom-based netbook sometime in the third quarter of the year, according to the Commercial Times.
The Nokiabook will probably be made by Compal and Quanta, two companies well versed in the netbook-making business. Compal will go even further and create a Qualcomm Snapdragon Nokia smartbook but we don’t have any specific details for any of those future Nokia devices just yet.

Are you sitting down folks? Because this is going to be legendary! That’s right you heard me right the first time. Microsoft is going to sell its famous Windows XP all the way through 2011. The company doesn’t seem ready to discontinue it especially since so many netbooks are using the OS and probably some netbooks to come are going to also keep using it. Microsoft was going to discontinue XP after April 23, 2010 but it looks like that it’s all history. The Windows XP downgrade option will be available to everyone interested in it. That way Microsoft is making sure that besides Windows 7, which isn’t out yet, it will have a pretty dependable OS to offer. After all, nobody will want to get a Vista downgrade if they don’t like 7, will they?
