Telmap is selling a new navigation system for the iPhone that uses NAVTEQ maps as well as MapQuest and Orange. It also has the other bells and whistles such as turn-by-turn guidance, in-car and pedestrian modes, as well as live traffic.

Of course, this Telmap comes at an awkward time since Google Android 2.0’s new free Navigation system. I mean, why would anyone pay for something that they can get for free?

The Nokia 500 PND we have featured last year in Mobilewhack has recently been released. Nokia’s second and newest PND is using Navteq’s updated, high-quality pan-European maps. In business news, Nokia announced its acquisition of NAVTEQ. The acquisition has cost Nokia $78 in cash for each share of NAVTEQ including outstanding options for an aggregate purchase price of approximately $8.1 billion (EUR 5.7 billion), or approximately $7.7 billion (EUR 5.4 billion) net of NAVTEQ existing cash balance.

NAVTEQ, a provider of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data, is growing fast with the boom in the navigation department with location-based services expanding rapidly into mobile communications devices.
