  • The popular online music subscription service - Napster Mobile - has been introduced to more than 13 million AT&T customers. In the past the number of affected customers wasn’t so high, but thanks to the low restriction on DRM requirements, it had an exponential growth.

Currently, Napster Mobile can be used on over 25 AT&T devices, such as the BlackBerry Bold, Pantech Matrix, Samsung Propel, and others. Taking in consideration that there are more than 6 million songs on Napster’s catalog, the expansion can only be considered a good signal.

On the other hand, songs at Napster are more expensive than other services (read iTunes). It costs $1,99 to download each song, and a monthly subscription has a price tag of $7,49, which consists of 5 downloads per month.

For those of you wandering if Napster still exists Best Buy has the perfect answer. Best Buy acquired Napster for $121 million. What do you think about that Metallica?

Best Buy is going to pay $67 in cash while the rest will be paid by Q4 of this year. Why 67 mil in cash?
Moving on then, Best Buy is going to get Napster’s 700,000 digital entertainment subscribers which is not to bad. Best Buy’s president Brian Dunn said he wants to use “Napster’s capabilities and digital subscriber base to reach new customers with an enhanced experience for exploring and selecting music and other digital entertainment products over an increasing array of devices.” OK then, you go ahead and you have your fun with Napster! Beware though, Metallica might be watching!
