28 Jan 10 Nokia reports fourth quarter earnings with 126.9 units sold

500x_nokia-n97Nokia has recently reported their fourth quarter reports, and they have shipped 126.9 million units. That’s 12 percent more than the previous year, and only 3.8 million was sold in the U.S..

The N900, N97, and N97 Mini were big in Europe, and the Ovi Maps turn-by-turn free navigation app could cause those numbers to rise even more.

Not bad for a Finnish company. Lets see how they finish next quarter.

18 Jan 10 Play Brain Maze on the Nokia N97, with your brain!

I’m not certain how many of you have heard of the NeuroSky MindSet, but it is a brainwave interface that allows some control of a computer with your mind. Apparently, someone has taken a Mindset and linked it with a N97 to make Brain Maze a whole new experience.

I haven’t played Brain Maze before, but I have played a similar motion-controlled mobile game called Labyrinth, where the player must tilt his or her mobile device in order to get a metal ball into its proper place. This version of Brain Maze, with the NeuroSky Mindset, allows the user to mentally interact in order to go further in the game.

I think the video above states it better as the player must be in an attentive or meditative state to open up gates in the game. Check it out and see the future of mobile gaming.

25 Nov 09 Fring adds Skype support

Fring has a new feature for all the Skype lovers, which is the support for video conferences of Skype on Nokia mobile devices that run the S60 software.

Some of the cellphones that use this new feature include Nokia X6, N97, N95, and N97 mini. This skype functionality enables users of the service to start/end video calls, be it on a cellphone to cellphone connection, or cellphone to desktop.

Sadly the video quality is low, but it’s only going to get better from now on…

04 Sep 09 Nokia N97 Sold Two Million Units Already

Nokia’s flagship phone, the N97, might not have been received very well in the USA where no carrier is currently selling it, but it’s certainly a great seller. The phone has already been sold in 2 million units in the past three months around the world. Its big brother, the 5800 XpressMusic has been sold in 10 million units in the last 10 months which means Nokia is on the right track. It’s first touchscreen phones are bringing in money and we’re anxious to see what new smartphones will the Finnish manufacturer launch. The next big hit should be the N900 which seems to be, at least so far, a much better phone than the N97.

What about you? What Nokia phone do you currently own and what Nokia phone would you rather have? After all Nokia is currently the number one mobile manufacturer with an almost 40% worldwide market share. Chances are that you’re currently using a Nokia phone too!

01 Sep 09 Nokia Comes with Music in the USA Only in 2010

It’s really hard to be a true Nokia fan in the USA since most carriers don’t seem to care about Nokia’s latest phones, not to mention its services. After we’ve seen the N97 disregarded by everyone in the phone business we know hear that Nokia’s music service, Comes with Music, has been pushed back to 2010. Maybe the U.S. market is not ready for another free DRM music service or maybe Nokia is not ready to support the costs given its current foothold in the USA. Nokia hasn’t specified when Comes with Music will be launched but I guess you won’t miss it all that much. After all there’s always iTunes or even Amazon ready to satisfy your music needs.

20 Aug 09 Nokia N97 Mini Outed by the FCC

We already know that Nokia has a Mini version of the N97 in the works. We’ve seen pictures of the rumored device but it’s only now that the FCC has officially outed the phone.

Will the N97 Mini be more popular than its older brother? Will it be more affordable? That’s probably Nokia’s intention but what features of the original phone will the Finnish company have to sacrifice to lower the price? From what we see in the picture here the phone isn’t that small compared to the N97 so “Mini” probably stands for something else.

We’ll be waiting for Nokia to officially unveil the new device while we wonder if any U.S. carrier will decide to include this N97 version in its future lineup. What about you? Interested in a Nokia N97 Mini?

29 Jul 09 Nokia N97 Mini Spotted

The Nokia N97 is Nokia’s flagship phone, a handset with lots of potential but a handset that might not be available to everyone especially due to its current price tag. That’s probably why Nokia has considered introducing a cheaper Mini N97. And it looks like this Mini version has already been leaked to the press. From what we can see so far in these pictures, the N97 Mini is a little smaller and a little slimmer than the regular phone. But not that mini! We have no idea when this new Nokia phone will arrive and how much it will cost, but we’d definitely like to see what’s inside this cheaper phone.

Stars in their respective classes, we know many of you are still scratching your heads on whether to go with the HTC Touch Pro2 or the Nokia N97.  Being an erstwhile Nokia user and a current HTC owner, I respect and like the quality of the both comapnies’ products, so I may not be the right guy to show you the way, but TeknoReview has put up a great video to help you out with just that, an all-out showdown between the two flagship smartphones, baring their features down for you in 12 whole rounds.  So, without further ado, here is the video:

08 Jul 09 Nokia Takes a Hit at the iPhone 3GS

The N97 is definitely one of the best phones Nokia has launched during the last few years. And unfortunatelly it’s not anywhere perfect, is it? Neither is the iPhone 3GS, Apple’s latest handset. But you have to agree that overall, the iPhone is better than the N97.

In the mean time it looks like Nokia UK’s General Manager, Mike Loughran, thinks otherwise:

The new iPhone is an evolution rather than a revolution and for people trying to decide whether to get a Nokia N97 or an iPhone, it comes down to a decision on performance and value for money… The new iPhone seems to have the same design and colour, upgrading from a sub-standard two-megapixel camera to a still low 3.2-megapixel camera, and is probably a disappointment for many people given the high tariff and lifetime ownership costs.

Does this mean that you should choose a phone based on color and megapixels? Seriously?

06 Jul 09 Nokia N97 Available from Amazon for Just $599

If $699 is too much for Nokia’s flagship phone, then how does $599 sound? Amazon is currently selling the N97 for that price which is 14% less than the regular price. The phone will be shipped for free straight to your home and all you’ll have to do is decide what carrier to choose after purchasing the N97. Currently this is the lowest available price as no carrier has decided to offer this impressive smartphone  for a subsidized price and Nokia isn’t running any sale today. Considering that Amazon has already dropped the price on the N97 we should assume that other hot Nokia phones like the E71 or the 5800 XpressMusic will have better prices soon so your favorite Nokia phone will be available for a cheaper price.

30 Jun 09 Dell Vostro Comes Now with a Nokia N97

Are you looking for a smartphone or a laptop? What about both? Dell has a hot offer for you right now. The Vostro and the Nokia N97 will be sold together for the special price of $730.  You can get that special price after applying a $399 off coupon to your shopping cart but you have you have to act fast! The offer will be available until July 1 or until supply lasts. If you take advantage right away of this deal and then sell the Vostro for around $400 (retails regularly at $420) then you’ll actually end up paying only around $350 for the unlocked N97. That’s a more than impressive price to pay for Nokia’s current flagship phone. Right now the N97 is not available from any carrier in the USA so anyone interested in it would have to get it for the regular price of $699 from a Nokia store. And if you do decide to keep the laptop for yourself you’re still the winner! You’ll be paying just $730 for a combined value of $1,120.

20 Jun 09 Nokia N97 Mini on Its Way Soon?

We heard earlier this week that Vodafone Ireland could sell a different N97 version dubbed as the Mini. The phone should be cheaper than the already launched N97 and you can expect it not to have the same cool features. That means a smaller screen, less memory, slower processor. But we can’t guarantee any of that since Nokia isn’t telling us anything yet. The Mini will arrive later this year and should match the current prices of T-Mobile’s G1. Vodafone hasn’t denied the rumor which means there’s a chance for Nokia to actually launch the Mini soon. The Irish Times is saying that “O2, Meteor and 3 Ireland all said they intend to sell the N97 but none was able to provide a launch date or expected pricing.”

What would you choose between the N97 and the Mini version? How much would you be willing to pay for it?

16 Jun 09 Nokia N97 Is Finally Official

Boy did we wait for this official announcement! Nokia has finally announced the N97 and this flagship phone should sell like cakes in no time. The phone is already being sold in the USA but no carrier has picked it up. You can find it in Nokia flagship phones for $699 but that’s really good enough is it?

The N97 has been officially unveiled just in time to fight against Apple’s latest iPhone or Palm’s Pre. The N97 has everything it needs to match up against any of these phones in terms of both hardware and software. Nokia has even set up its own Ovi Store in place and filled it with content which is now available to every Symbian device including the N97.

The N97 will sell for 592 Euro without a contract while those of you purchasing it with a contract will get it from anywhere from free to £35 depending on chosen plan. The phone is going to be available in UK stores these days and it’s going to Ireland in August. Other countries should also receive this extraordinary phone soon.

14 Jun 09 Vodafone to Launch the Nokia N97 on June 19 in the UK

June 19 will not only bring lucky customers the iPhone 3GS and the Nokia N86 but also Nokia’s flagship phone the N97. That’s all happening in the UK and while no U.S. carrier is going to sell the the N97 for a subsidized price, Vodafone will do just that in the UK. The phone is available for pre-order and Vodafone is prepared to offer a free set of speakers worth £25 for every N97 and if you get the phone online then you get extra minutes which is certainly a good incentive. The phone will cost you £150 if purchased with a less than £40/month 2-year plan and it will be available free of charge if you’re going to get it with a £40/month (or higher) contract.
