Sure, Acer may be slowing down their netbook production for the rest of the year but that doesn’t mean they are going to skimp on other hardware offerings.
What you see above is one of their 8000 Series notebooks which will be made available in 13.3, 13 and 15.6 inch sizes. The entire series features either Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Solo ULV CPUs, 4-8GB of RAM, an 80GB SSD (or 160GB/500GB harddrives) and either a Intel GMA 4500MHD or ATI 4330 GPU. Additionally, the 8000 series will feature a multitouch fingerpad and the option for 3G at a later date.
We’ll keep you posted on a release date and pricing as it’s made known.

Every wanted to use iPhone OS on anything else but the iPhone or the iPod touch? Why would you want such a thing anyway? Getting back to the point here, it seems that the iPhone OS can be installed on a desktop PC as long as it comes with accelerometer support and, most importantly with multitouch support. Check the video above for yourself. Is it real or just a good prank?

Multitouch capacitive displays are heading to netbooks and notebooks and we’re anxiously waiting for them. EETI will begin shipping 7- and 12-inch versions in the second half of the year. Manufacturers will have all the time in the world to play with them and we should expect them to arrive in netbooks and notebooks next year after CES 2010. Interested?

Take that Apple! The feature that has made the iPhone so special is very soon coming to Symbian S60 touchscreen phones, thanks to a developer named Jamie Fuller who has taken it upon himself to get multitouch on to the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. There are no details on how he is doing it but he has a Guitar Hero-like game to prove it, which still needs a lot of work, and when done, will be available as a freeware. Take your time, Jamie, we’ll wait, but just be mindful of any infringements on Apple’s multitouch patent.

Boy is this computer manufacturer working hard or what? HP is going to release guidelines for third-party developers in order for them to create TouchSmart applications. HP’s TouchSmart technology used in some of the latest PCs is waiting for more programs from developers. If you’re one heck of a good coder, maybe this is a possible future job for you.
HP won’t follow the Apple App Store model. All applications hosted on the TouchSmart Community will be free to download, although HP won’t block any developer to hos and charge for his or her application. Before getting all excited about this possibility you might want to kick back and wait for the multitouch Windows 7 to be unleashed. Multitouch applications will rock compared to single touch applications!
