What you see above is Packard Bell’s recently unveiled 15.6 inch EasyNote Butterfly m notebook that first made its debut at this year’s IFA.

Spec wise this device features an yet-to-be announced processor, up to 640GB of hard drive space, up to 4GB of RAM, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 GPU, Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi and a multi-touch finger pad.

Unfortunately this announcement only detailed the European release (next month @ €599) and failed to notify us of a North American launch.

  • I guess we pretty much expected this move, right? Apple was awarded a 358-page patent covering the touch screen, GUI and various other methods that define that iPhone user experience.

All those pages cover the technologies that contribute to the iPhone experience. You’ll find a detailed description of the way various gestures like pinches and zooms, finger swipes, two-thumb twists and more work.

The patent has some features which we might find in the future iPhone versions. There’s a blogging application and a digital video camera application, voice-activated dialing and there’s even a touch-sensitive area described which is supposed to act as a touchpad ready to activate and deactivate functions.

Now that Apple has the patent, are we going to see the company go to trial against some of its competition?

I’ll start right off telling you that the device in the picture isn’t an Apple creation. Well at least not yet it isn’t. It’s a concept proposed by MacBlogz. That’s their vision of the future Mighty Mouse. The mouse is a multitouch mouse and comes without any buttons. You’d control your computer by pressing against the touch-sensitive surface. We just have to see now if Apple is going to make any mouse looking like that.

We have a hot rumor for you all. It looks like LG is working on multi-touch displays somewhere in its Korean factories and it looks like these new display will be manufactured for Apple’s iMac soon. The only question is what is Apple going to do about touchscreen displays? Is Steve Jobs going to get those touchscreen displays in iMacs or MacBooks? Well we’ll keep you updated on this matter. For the time being we’re going to see what LG is going to do with the new displays and then we’re going to look at what Apple is planning to do.

The first multi-touch laptop was bound to be released sooner or later, especially with Windows Mobile 7 being developed to support multi-touch. And it was HP, not Apple, that managed to pull it off. The TouchSmart tx2 will get you multi-touch two-finger control but there’s a catch to it. The whole multi-touch thing works only with the HP MediaSmart suite of applications.

The TouchSmart tx2 is a 12.1 inch laptop which can get you up to 8GB of RAM. An AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core processor will power it all up and you can opt for storage space anywhere from 160 to 500GB. The WXGA screen has an embedded N-trig digitizer which will help you do all that multi-touching. No word on availability and pricing yet, but we’ll keep you posted!

With the first multi-touch laptop already out, we’re going to wait for the rest of them to appear.

Now here’s an event we are definitely waiting for. Although a rumor for now, a MacBook event seems to shape up for October 14th. Is that the day we’re going to see the new line of MacBooks roll by. People have been waiting for an announcement since yesterday at the “Let’s Rock” iPod event but Steve Jobs wouldn’t have done such a thing. He knows how these things are done doesn’t he?

I’d like to be in any of the brain-storming meetings Apple’s employees go to. How else would they come up with all sorts of interesting ideas. We hear now that Apple wants to add voice and camera to multi-touch in an attempt to improve our gadgets experience.

Apple Has a New Table Patent

It’s not the first multi-touch patents we see from Apple and it’s not the first time we hear about a possible, probable, future MacBook tablet which is supposed to look like a big brother of the regular iPhone. Are we going to see this baby coming out this year? Are we going to see it announced in the upcoming weeks?

Yes and no, from the looks of this video. The area around the navi-wheel seems to be able to recognize two finger inputs at the same time with the help of an application called Nav Debug Tool. Not the touchscreen itself like the iPhone/iPhone 3G. Still, a cool hidden feature WMPowerUser.com uncovered that could be exploited by many an app. Watch the video above

  • HP to Launch Touchscreen Laptops

Now let me see where on Earth did I hear such a terrific idea? I mean, making a notebook similar to the iPhone but slightly bigger seems quite an innovating concept that someone is rumored to already have. Where on Apple did I hear it then?

HP appears to be in good shape to compete against a rumored Apple product, the MacBook touch. And I actually trust they will do a fine job. After launching their touch desktop they should be able to get a hit touch laptop.

The new system is going to be launch in about 18 months, which is quite a wait. HP will join Dell which already has a tablet PC, the Latitude XT with multitouch support. Hopefully more multitouch notebooks are going to be developed in the near future. We’d certainly love getting our hands on any of these models.

Imagine my surprise and astonishment today when I found myself reading two different sets of news about the BlackBerry Thunder. How’s that surprising? Well according to some, the Thunder is really enjoyable to use and ready to enter production. According to others, the Thunder really sucks and it won’t be hear for the next four or five months.

How do you like you touch experience so far? No matter what tablet you use, no matter if you own a smartphone or not yet, no matter if you love or hate the iPhone and Apple all together, you must be curious about touch and multi-touch screens or pads and the device that pack them. • Apple iPhone 3G by Mid-2008: Analysts

    iPhone 3G

According to analysts Piper Jaffray and American Technology Research, the 3G version of the Apple iPhone may be available by mid-2008. Analyst Gene Munster expects Apple to come out with Mac upgrades - including faster processors and more storage. Another device that could be announced at next year’s MacWorld is an ultra-portable device featuring a screen between 11 to 13 inches (diag). And of course, this may also include multi-touch technology found on the iPod touch and iPhone.

Apple could also announce a major movie rental service via iTunes. Personally, I am tired of renting movies on the web, but with Apple, you never know what they come up with.
