Sony is really riding the wave on its brand new PS3 Slim. The game console is selling like hot cakes all over the place so it’s no wonder that a 250GB PS3 Slim model has also been developed. The bigger model has apparently arrived in stores and retailers are waiting to sell it to the angry mobs gathering in front of their stores. Ok, maybe there’s nobody lining up to get this model yet as the 250GB PS3 Slim should officially be available starting with October 6. But then again, there’s at least one store that’s selling those boxes in the picture here.

On a different note it looks like October 6 is a day when everyone wants to get noticed. It is definitely not going to be a day dedicated to Microsoft related events like the big Windows Mobile 6.5 launch after all as both Sony and Motorola have apparently big plans scheduled on the very same date. So what will you do on October 6? Follow Microsoft’s launch, grab a 250GB PS3 from Sony or attend Motorola’s MOTODEV event?

Motorola will not allow itself to be left out as far as Android-based handsets are concerned. And to make life easier for the app developers, Motorola releases the MOTODEV Studio an Android development resource for apps specifically for Motorola handsets.

The launch of this new platform is seen as something in line with the rapid growth of the Android platform. We have seen it in most smartphones in the market today and to make sure that Motorola has its share of the limelight, the MOTODEV Studio is certainly one that should keep them on track.

For the app developers, here is what you can expect:

  • Early access to tools, technical specs, documentation and other development support resources.
  • Exclusive pre-release access to upcoming Motorola devices for testing and debugging.
  • Direct access to Motorola’s developer support engineers via private discussion boards.
  • Maximum market exposure for applications as soon as new mobile devices ship to users.

Motorola will also make publicly available the MOTODEV Studio for Android Beta. MOTODEV Studio is a powerful, Eclipse- based integrated development environment that works with Google’s software development kit.

There have been a couple of MOTODEV Summits on the past, and those were good news for software developers, but now it got even better because Motorola announced the MOTODEV Widget Developer Challenge.

The main purpose of the challenge is to let developers use their imagination, and create something useful that can be used by everyone that owns a Motorola cellphone. The applications can go from real-time flight information, to sport scores, and everything else you can imagine that mobile users would enjoy.

The MOTODEV Widget Developer Challenge is open to everyone, and the registration can be done at their website. The prize will be divided into 3 categories, and includes cash + recognition by Motorola + recognition at CTIA 2009 + latest Motorola handsets and accessories + memorial plaque.
