All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

Samsung has a brand new 8 megapixel camera phone and we’ve already seen the looks of it. Sure the pictures won’t be enough to reveal all of those hidden features so we’d like Samsung to tell us more. But Samsung isn’t saying anything! At least not yet! People say that the new phone will be announced at the Mobile World Congress next month. Will Samsung use the event to promote it? Will this camera phone make it to the USA or Europe? Will anyone step up with some inside info about it?

Gigabyte MS800 Cell Phone

gigabyteMS800.jpg

Not wanting to be left out of the Mobile World Congress frenzy, Gigabyte has unveiled new cell phones as part of their G-Smart series. Among these, the MS800 is a 3.5G candy bar with some pretty good specs like a 520MHz Marvel CPU, HSDPA at 7.2Mbps, quad-band GSM/EDGE, a 2-megapixel camera, FM radio, and a SiRF Star III GPS. It runs on an unknown version of Windows Mobile, most likely 6.1, with a 2.8-inch QVGA display.

The MS800 is scheduled for a 2008 spring release at an undisclosed price. Take the jump for more details…

  • Qualcomm-mirasol.JPG

I promised you a lot more “first evers” didn’t I? Here’s one more. The first ever mirasol-enabled cell phone. Produced by Hisense, the C108 is a light-weight, ultra-low-power candy bar with a 1.2-inch mirasol display featuring a resolution of 128×96 pixels. It uses Qualcomm’s QSC6010 chipset and has 32MB of ROM and 8MB of memory. The phone will be on display at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona if you want to take a peek.

For the uninitiated, mirasol is a new reflective display technology developed by Qualcomm that “harnesses ambient light and require no backlighting, thereby consuming significantly less power. The reflective mirasol display also automatically scales to the surrounding lighting conditions, allowing users to see their content in almost every environment, even bright sunlight.” Incidentally, the Audiovox ARWH1 Stereo Bluetooth Headset was the first product to actually feature a mirasol display.

Other than that, the phone seems pretty limited and the only major feature seems to be its multi-language support. This one is heading to China and other emerging markets later on in 2008.

  • HTC P3470 with GPS, but no WiFi

    htc-p3470.jpg

While we knew that the P3470 was on its way, we can’t help but be disappointed that this device is somewhat crippled by 2.5G while the rest of its specs don’t look half bad. HTC has thrown in a 200MHz CPU, 256MB ROM, 128MB memory, Bluetooth 2.0, and microSD. Even the big 2.8-inch QVGA TouchFLO display and GPS don’t make me forget the fact that this is only a quad-band EDGE device with no WiFi connectivity. Headed straight to the European market later this month at a not-so-cheap $650.

  • Sony Ericsson C902 Cell Phone

    SEc902.jpg

While the C702 strayed a bit with its GPS functionality, the C902 cell phone stays true to the Cybershot name focusing more on its camera capabilities. Within its sleek and slim form factor, the C902 houses a 5-megapixel camera with Face Detection, Auto Focus, Photo Flash, and BestPic technology, which enables shooting up to 9 pictures in quick succession. On the music side, it’s not that different from the C702 with Mega Bass, TrackID, FM Radio, and music tones. The Access NetFront browser seems to be becoming the standard browser for all upcoming Sony Ericsson devices along with RSS feed support, as was the case with the Sony Ericsson’s recent K series and W Series phones.

Like the C702, the Sony Ericsson C902 is slated for a mid-2008 release.

    Sony Ericsson Cybershot C702

    1-SEc702.jpg

Along with the Xperia X1, Sony Ericsson announced two more new members to its Cybershot series with the C702 and C902, which were already leaked some time ago. The C702 takes a small detour over the previous Cybershot cell phones with the inclusion of aGPS and geotagging of pictures snapped with its 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera together with Google Maps and Wayfinder. Other than that, it sports the usual array of music-centric features like FM Radio, music tones, TrackID, and Mega Bass. This cool new phone is expected to land somewhere in the middle of 2008. Read on for the full spec sheet…

    LG KT610 Cell Phone

    LGlogo.jpg

Expect a lot more “first evers” this Mobile World Congress as Sony Ericsson took its first ever plunge into Windows Mobile realm and now with LG testing Symbian waters. The KT610 runs on Symbian OS 9.2 and S60 3rd Edition with Feature Pack 1 (why not FP2?). We couldn’t get our hands on a picture but according to the press report, it is a “stylish” candy bar with a QWERTY keypad hidden underneath a 2.4-inch VGA flip screen display. Other specs revealed include HSDPA at 3.6Mbps, GPS, push email, and a “suite” of multimedia applications. That’s about it for now but as always, we’ll keep you posted as more details emerge.

  • Xperia1.JPG

Surprise! Surprise! Meet the first ever Windows Mobile-powered Sony Ericsson. Already a leader in Symbian UIQ devices, it looks like SE wants the best of both worlds by adding the Xperia XP1, which works on Windows Mobile 6. Making its debut at the Mobile World Congress, the phone isn’t shabby at all with a 3-inch VGA (yep, not QVGA!) touchscreen with a resolution of 800×480 , a full QWERTY keypad, and a new tile-like interface called “Xperia Panels.” Sony Ericsson has tried to cover all the bases with quad-band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA network support (900 or 850 and 1700/1900/2100 MHz), WiFi, aGPS, Bluetooth with A2DP, and a 3.2-megapixel camera. The arc-sliding QWERTY looks really cool and there is a 4-way navigation key and an optical joystick to complement the touchscreen.

With all these features, the Sony Ericsson Xperia XP1 will definitely not be cheap when it hits the stores in the second half of 2008. More pictures and details after the break.

    NokiaTimer.JPG

The last time Nokia put up a countdown timer on its site, the N82 was born. This time, with the accompanying MWC itinerary revealing nothing, I would wager on the N96, recently leaked by an irked German, and/or the S60 Touch. Either way, I would love to see the unbelievably packed N96 become a reality or even Nokia take on Apple with a far more superior device than the iPhone. But hey, with roughly 30 hours to go, we won’t have to wait too long, do we?
