All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

Yesterday, a decision was made by the ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) that could change the mobile world as we know it. This ratification of the A/153 ATSC Mobile DTV Standard “defines the technical specifications necessary for broadcasters to provide new services to mobile and handheld devices using their digital television transmissions”.

Does this mean that every mobile could be capable of playing digital TV? Maybe. Truth be told, I do most of my television watching on Hulu or other Internet TV places. Still, the idea of being anywhere with a mobile phone and channel surfing appeals to me, I guess.

  • One thing about being able to watch TV on your mobile phones is the scope of entertainment in the form of channels you can get. Apparently, MobiTV has been around and has demonstrated ability to stimulate widespread adoption across existing carrier networks. And to that note, they have been awarded the Best Mobile TV service provider at the Global Mobile Awards held at Barcelona.

MobiTV already serves a compelling mobile TV experience featuring popular content and primetime channels to over 6 million subscribers on more than 300 handset models.

“At MobiTV we know mainstream adoption of mobile television is dependent on compelling user experiences and content that is relevant to the consumer,” said Charlie Nooney, CEO MobiTV. “By providing features like immediate session start, fast channel change and a simple user interface, MobiTV is giving users the experience they expect. The GSMA have recognised that in the award we received.”
