Samsung Electronics is set to officially unveil another mobile phone soon after getting approval for its Samsung SCH-W799. The handset underwent rugged tests and satisfactorily met all conditions set by the FCC and now the only thing left is when it would officially hit the market. A lot of the tests done focused on the electromagnetic emissions of radio frequencies. The only thing clear about the Samsung SCH-W799 for now is that it comes with Bluetooth 2.0 with enhanced data rates and a permanently attached antenna with no provisions for an external one. But expect the official features to come out soon and it should not be surprising if it comes with the usual built-in camera, media players, GPS and other connectivity options as well.

The Solar Cell USB Sun Drive

It may look like an over-priced flash drive at $23 but you have to give technology some allowance in making it happen. This solar cell USB key called the Sun Drive comes in various capacities (2.1G, 2.2G, 2.3G and 2.4G). As you would guess, it solicits its power from the sun (solar power) which should become an ideal alternative for mobile phone power (100 minutes of talk time) or as a power source for MP3 players (35 hours). It may seem bulky but this is because of the solar cell and the battery. Overall, this is should be a handy gadget, especially for the ones who have all kinds of gadgets on the go.

Due to security reasons, India has issued an order to ban all pre-paid mobile phones in Kashmir. Apparently, these pre-paid mobile phones were being used by militants for other means such as using them to trigger bombs and hide their identities. Launched in 2003, these pre-paid mobile phones are said to be the reason for some attacks since they are easier to get a hold of compared to post-paid mobile handsets which require a more scrutinized check before they are issued.

Other regions suffer the same ordeal since getting a pre-paid card and a mobile phone can be done easily. With this move however, countries such as the Philippines may do well to follow India’s lead to counter terrorists attacks which make use of technology for all the wrong reasons.
