Intel has a concept MID, based on Moorestown. It’s an ultra-thin device, with touchscreen and a better battery. The prototype was presented at the Intel Developer Forum in Taipei.
Moorestown will use a system-on-a-chip (SOC), aka the “Lincroft”, which will integrate a 45nm processor, graphics, memory controller and video encoder/decoder. The chip will conect to a “Langwell: or a southbridge I/O hub which will support various I/O ports to connect with wireless, storage and display components. There will be 3G, WiMAX, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and mobile TV support and probably a lot more.
The Moorsetown will arrive sometime in not so near future, 2009-2010 to be specific. So then, why not make it a phone then? It might not fit my pockets, but it could be a great phone. We’ll keep you posted on further developments

Looking for a new MID? How about the i1 from Wibrain. The device looks interestingly enough, although it seems like I’d have a hard time typing from souch a device. The i1 will pack either a 1.1GHz or a 1.3GHz Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, a 30GB or 60GB HDD or a 8GB, 16GB or 32GB SSD. This MID will have various Internet connectivity options like tri-band UMTS/HSDPA and quad-band GPRS/EDGE.
Like always the device, spotted at IFA, doesn’t have a price or a release date yet so go to Wibrain and ask around. Maybe they’ll let you know more.

Archos launched two MID, the Archos 5 and the Archos 7. The difference between them is about two inch and a few GB of storage. Can I make any phone calls with those? It would be just too good wouldn’t it. (more…)

This is not just a tablet I’m about to show you here. It’s more than that, it’s a mini notebook tablet. Personally I am getting tired of all these Eee-like UMPCs and MIDs popping up day after day. Some are at least trying to offer something different while some of them are not going to make it in this tough world.

I like how HTC are going about their business. Not only have they just recently come up with some intelligent phones like the Touch Diamond or the Raphael but they are planning to release better phones and other devices as we speak. We already have confirmed the fact they are preparing for a Windows Mobile 7 device for early 2009 and for an Android phone later 2008. Now we hear rumors that HTC is developing an MID which is to be released somewhere in the second part of 2008.
