  • Here’s something that should not come as a surprise whatsoever — Recent reports suggest that T-Mobile is currently negotiating a deal with MetroPCS and Clearwire that will effectively expand their 4G network to a broader market.

This goes along with the fact that Sprint too is looking to expand their 4G network as a negotiation with Clearwire which they hold a 51% stake in.

Unfortunately we have no other information regarding the expansion but more is sure to be made known at some point in the near future.

That is what we are led to believe looking at a picture that was posted on Samsung’s website.  The header picture on the Korean manufacturer’s US website shows three cellphones which includes the R560 Messager sporting a MetroPCS logo.  MetroPCS already sells the previous iteration of the same model, the R450 Messager, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the latest version was picked by the same CDMA carrier too and the fact that this QWERTY-hauling handset is equipped with tri-band CDMA and EV-DO data support solidifies the fact that the R560 Messager will land in MetroPCS’ lap very soon.  The R560 has already seen a Canadian release as the Samsung Vice on Bell Mobility and has escaped from the FCC’s clutches unscathed.  We know that apart from the QWERTY keypad, it also crams in Bluetooth, a 2 megapixel camera, and that’s about it, pretty much what you can expect from a phone that is primarily going to be used as a messaging/mailing device.  We’ll get you more as it emerges, so do come back!

MetroPCS is the small carrier that could. It looks like the carrier has managed to create an impressive offer for anyone talking for hours with other countries. MetroPCS offers an unlimited voice plan for calling friends in more than 100 countries and it costs only $5 per month. This add-on plan does require an unlimited national calling plan of only $40 to $50 per month.

Here’s what Roger D. Linquist had to say about this new offer:

Unlimited international calling at such an affordable rate can dramatically reduce monthly long distance costs and is yet another example of MetroPCS’ commitment to providing industry-leading value to consumers in today’s tough economic climate. MetroPCS is eliminating the worry of high international calling fees, counting minutes and dialing a connecting number, typical of traditional calling cards. With MetroPCS’ international calling, consumers are truly unlimited now more than ever.

A new compact flip phone has been unveiled by Samsung Electronics in cooperation with Metro PCS Corp. The sleek, compact flip design of the Samsung Tint makes it both durable and fashionable. The Samsung Tint includes grey and pink faceplates as a standard accessory to help match the user’s style.

Additional faceplates are also available in various colors. This handset also features customizable wallpaper, banner themes and fonts to personalize the visual experience on the Samsung Tint.

The Samsung Tint is equipped with a powerful feature set, including an integrated camera, SMS, MMS, email and IM messaging capabilities, advanced voice recognition, Bluetooth wireless technology and speakerphone for easy, hands-free operation.

For immediate access to family and friends, the Samsung Tint offers ChatLINK℠ a push-to-talk social networking tool that works like a walkie-talkie. Users can simply push a button and talk without dialing to individuals or groups with compatible phones.

With the Samsung Tint, MetroPCS subscribers will be able to navigate the mobile Web, download ringtones and graphics and interact with social networks without having to use a laptop or PC.

MetroPCS’ plans for its wide variety of other phones range from $30 to $50 per month and allow subscribers to talk all they want, 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week. Unlike most carriers, MetroPCS does not require a signed contract, which means that consumers can activate service without going through a credit check or paying a deposit.

The Samsung Tint is available at all MetroPCS authorized dealers and company-owned retail locations. Visit MetroPCS’ website at www.metropcs.com for specific locations or to purchase the Samsung Tint and sign up for service plans.

Despite the fact that Verizon and AT&T are testing their own LTE networks, they won’t be the first ones to launch one. It seems that MetroPCS, a regional prepaid mobile operator plans to deploy LTE in the second half of 2010. The carrier has about 5.4 million subscribers in 14 markets which means it will deploy its network faster than Verizon or AT&T. Surprisingly MetroPCS doesn’t have any smartphones which could benefit from that LTE technology. According to Tom Keys, MetroPCS’ chief operating officer, a Canadian smartphone is heading to MetroPCS next year.

MetroPCS, the wireless carrier on the US that now reaches over 300 cities, has announced a new cellphone on their catalog, the C78 made by ZTE. This is another basic cellphone like the Alcatel 206, but from the looks of it there are better features on the ZTE. Anyhow, the C78 will be available for $130 and has the following features to offers: VGA camera, 2-inch display screen, Tri-band CDMA, and lastly an internal memory of 60MB. In the end this isn’t a good, nor bad device, consider it medium and if I had to give a star rating, it would be 2 out of 5.

  • The relationship between MetroPCS and Chinese manufacturer ZTE continues with the new ZTE C79 clamshell launching on the carrier’s network. Like many of its previous models, the C79 sticks to a flip-phone form factor and falls into the mid-to-low range category. It is designed to work with both CDMA and AWS frequencies with support for @metro access for downloadable content. Measuring a thin 3.5×1.75×0.7 inches, the C79 is endowed with an internal 176×220px 262k display along with an external display of 96×64 pixels and a 1.3-megapixel camera. Multimedia isn’t exactly a strong point for this flipper as there’s only a music player with dedicated music controls on the front and a meager 69MB of internal storage with 2GB microSD support. Bluetooth has also made it through and that’s the only available outlet if you are thinking wireless.

You can order the ZTE C79 off the net from MetroPCS’ website or in its stores across the country for $169 in a single color combo of red and black.

  • Samsung Messager for MetroPCS

Apart from the slide-out QWERTY keypad, the Samsung Messager, or the SCH-r450, is pretty much any other mid-ender that has been released in the past two years. Along with its 2.1-inch 262k color display, the Messager has a 1.3 megapixel camera for at least some kind of imaging satisfaction with a microSD slot for up to 2GB of storage, which might come in useful for all the songs you want to play on its music player. SMS, MMS, and instant messaging should be a breeze though, on the full QWERTY keypad and stereo Bluetooth support provides the only wireless outlet for the Messager. The SCH-r450 is available now from MetroPCS for $199.

    ZTE-C88.jpg

Landing somewhere in the middle of MetroPCS’ mobile lineup, the CDMA ZTE C88 doesn’t have too many surprises in store, except may be its dual interior and exterior color displays. This new Chinese clamshell sure does score some style points though, with its sleek and shiny looks and a RAZR-esque keyboard backlight. Other than that, you get a hi-res camera, 60MB internal memory, Bluetooth, MicroSD support, and downloadable content through MetroPCS.

Available for $139 on MetroPCS’ website or their retail stores. More details after the break…
