All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

That is what we are led to believe looking at a picture that was posted on Samsung’s website.  The header picture on the Korean manufacturer’s US website shows three cellphones which includes the R560 Messager sporting a MetroPCS logo.  MetroPCS already sells the previous iteration of the same model, the R450 Messager, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the latest version was picked by the same CDMA carrier too and the fact that this QWERTY-hauling handset is equipped with tri-band CDMA and EV-DO data support solidifies the fact that the R560 Messager will land in MetroPCS’ lap very soon.  The R560 has already seen a Canadian release as the Samsung Vice on Bell Mobility and has escaped from the FCC’s clutches unscathed.  We know that apart from the QWERTY keypad, it also crams in Bluetooth, a 2 megapixel camera, and that’s about it, pretty much what you can expect from a phone that is primarily going to be used as a messaging/mailing device.  We’ll get you more as it emerges, so do come back!

While other players are looking to take a few more millimeters off their handsets, Samsung has done a complete 360 and produced the world’s largest cell phone, which can be seen (and used for free) at Fidelity Plaza, Chicago.  Modeled around the r450 Messager that saw a release last August, this is an attempt by Samsung in collaboration with Cricket to nab the largest “working” cell phone record in the Guiness Book of Records, which measures a ginormous 15 feet wide by 13 feet tall.  Drop by and make a call for free on this giant if you are in the vicinity, as you may never get an opportunity to do it again.

There’s nothing wrong with a little insane competition in the mobile world. Take Samsung for example. Instead on working round the clock to make better and better handsets it has decided to set the world record for fastest texting while skydiving.

Ten skydivers have been equipped with various handset like the Propel, Alias, Gravity, Rant or Messenger. Everyone took two jumps and everyone landed safely each time. The Guinness team has yet to establish if the record has been set, and once we’ve settled that whole thing the Samsung team should get back to work.

  • Samsung Messager for MetroPCS

Apart from the slide-out QWERTY keypad, the Samsung Messager, or the SCH-r450, is pretty much any other mid-ender that has been released in the past two years. Along with its 2.1-inch 262k color display, the Messager has a 1.3 megapixel camera for at least some kind of imaging satisfaction with a microSD slot for up to 2GB of storage, which might come in useful for all the songs you want to play on its music player. SMS, MMS, and instant messaging should be a breeze though, on the full QWERTY keypad and stereo Bluetooth support provides the only wireless outlet for the Messager. The SCH-r450 is available now from MetroPCS for $199.
