All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

Yesterday, it was made known that the Garmin-Asus nuvifone M20 was made available for purchase in Taiwan with no solid word on a worldwide launch. However, if recent reports are to be believed the two devices may be making their way onto the US carrier AT&T at some point in the future.

News comes to us from Pocket-lint who was on hand at the M20 Taiwanese launch and have quoted a Garmin-Asus rep to have said “the M20 is destined for AT&T in the U.S.”.

Unfortunately, that’s all the info we were given but I think it’s safe to say we will definitely see the device drop on AT&T in the coming months.

Back in February we notified you of a Garmin-Asus branded handset called the nuvifone M20. At that time there was no word of US availability and today, that remains the same.

The nuvifone M20 has, however, hit Taiwanese carrier Chunghwa and is to feature Windows Mobile, a VGA display, 3MP camera, HSDPA and all sorts of turn-by-turn GPS features (hey, it is Garmin, after all).

Despite its mediocracy, I’m sure at least a handful of American consumers would take to it if/when Garmin and Asus get around to releasing it here.

  • We are not holding our breath on this one, but Garmin has yet again announced that the nuvifone G60 is finally ready for a release, and this time, the date isn’t in months but days, 27th of July to be exact.  Hard to believe it after seeing them get ready to release it and then back off again at the final moment so many times before, but something tells us this might be the real deal after all.  The nuvifone will apparently be available initially in Taiwan starting July 27th with Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Malaysia soon to follow by the end of next month.  Also ready for release is the nuvifone M20, which is almost identical in specs to the G60, but runs Windows Mobile 6.1 (can be upped to 6.5 when that’s released) instead of the Linux operating system that we have seen on the former handset.  No details on the price yet, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for anymore information on this one.  Read on for a complete spec sheet on both the G60 and M20 nuvifones.

  • We first heard above the nuvifone M20 and G60 back in February at its unveiling but still, 5 months later, the devices have yet to hit the market.

Well today, Garmin and Asus are proud to announce that they are gearing up to finally launch the two handsets in August of this year on the Singapore market. Furthermore, several unannounced Asian markets will also see the phones in late July.

Unfortunately for us, there was no word on when (if ever) the M20 and G60 will hit store shelves in North America. We’ll keep you posted.
