Nokia has long been known as one of the premiere handset makers on Earth with a staggering market share. Today, however, the news is not the same as Nokia has just posted a $834 million quarterly loss, but that’s not all.
The mega handset manufacturer also let us know that their smartphone market share is also down to 35% as compared to 41% in last quarter.
Is this the beginning of the end for Nokia? Perhaps once their N900 hits the market these numbers will be a bit different? Only time could tell.

Sure, Sprint may be in the process or purchasing Virgin Mobile USA to the tune of $483 million but that doesn’t mean its all peaches for the carrier.
Recent reports suggest that not only did they lose $384 million for Q2 of this year, but they also lost 257,000 subscribers. Make not that all of this happened right when Sprint took the Palm Pre under its wing.
So what is to happen to Sprint? Will they be on a steady decline or will the purchase of Virgin Mobile give them the boost they need? Only time will tell.

Compared to other cell phone manufacturers, Nokia managed to actually make a buck in the first quarter of the year. Actually it has made about $160 million in profits but that’s 90% lower than that $1.6 billion it turned in the year before. Sales dropped from $16.7 billion last year to $12.2 billion in Q1. That’s how Nokia managed to keep its crown as its still holds 37% of the worldwide market share.
