The Motorola E11 picks up where the A810 left off and sports the same proprietary Linux OS with not too many bells and whistles accompanying it. The device only supports 900/1800MHz GSM bands with GPRS as the only available data transfer outlet, which is a big letdown when even EDGE could have got it a few points more on our scale. The display is capable of working with 262k colors, although the exact screen size is not known, with various other basic features Bluetooth, FM radio, an mp3 player, microSD expansion, USB support, and a 3-megapixel camera. Like the A810, the Motorola E11 will be a China-only release and judging by the available features, we could say it won’t be burning holes in anyone’s pockets whenever it is released.

A new phone from Samsung will be soon released in the market after gaining FCC approval. The new phone is the Linux-based Samsung i8320 which is reported to be in the final stages of production.
The new Samsung i8320 features a full touchscreen keypad and indicates that it may be a flip phone too. We all know that Samsung has been known for producing flip phones and so if the Samsung i8320 is one, it will not be a surprise.
Aside from that, no other features have been released just yet. But since it has already gained FCC approval, you can bet that in a couple of days, these features will be released.

It’s not every day that we hear about new Linux phones so we definitely should check them out. Panasonic and NEC seem not to care about Android, Windows Mobile or Symbian OS that much. They seem to prefer LiMo instead. In fact they love it so much that they have announced a daring project which involves creating nine new Linux phones. KDDI and Immersion Corp will work on those phones but LiMo is also hoping for other important manufacturers to be impressed by the initiative. What about you? Would you buy a cheaper touchscreen smartphone running on Linux? Can’t wait to see when these new phones will be officially unveiled.

Nokia and Intel have announced a partnership and we can expect this duo to launch the next generation of mobile devices. What does this mean exactly? Are we to expect new Nokia-Intel smartphones soon? What about netbooks and laptops? We already know Nokia is interested in making laptops too so a partnership with Intel would definitely be welcomed.
The collaboration will be focusing on open source mobile Linux software projects like Moblin and Maemo. Combine Nokia’s wireless technology with Intel’s mobile chip technology and we should definitely expect some hot products to come along and we’ll be waiting.

Frankly we’re tired of all these announcements saying that Garmin-Asus is going to deliver a certain nuvifone in the near future. The latest one is saying that the G60 will arrive in August and it will apparently not be delayed to 2010. It looks like the Linux-related problems have been fixed and the device will be ready for commercial launch. The G60 is going to be followed by even hotter phones and they will run either Android or Windows Mobile. So what do you think folks? Will you trust Garmin-Asus again?

Have your purchased your Pre handset already? Would you like to turn into a Nintendo-like gaming console? It’s now apparently possible. What you need is a NES emulator running on the Pre and you’ll be playing games in no time.
What do you need to do? Well you just have to get root access to your phone and then compile FCEUltra and set the screen to run at 320 x 480 resolution. In case you’re not Linux-friendly then you should probably find a savvy friend to help you with this predicament.

Back in February, Windows 7 was rumored to be hitting retail sometime in September. Well, Microsoft has just release official word that the OS’ final version will in fact be available to the public on October 22nd.
So, come October 22nd, we will finally get the chance to see if Microsoft will be able to break free of its tarnished reputation due to early versions of Windows Vista.
In reality I think it will go something like this: Windows enthusiasts will love it, Mac enthusiasts will hate it and Linux enthusiasts will laugh at both of them.

It looks like Nokia is keeping an eye on other operating systems and it won’t bind its Symbian OS to all its future products. A new Nokia MID is going to arrive in late 2009, possibly before Christmas and it will run on Linux. It’s going to offer you a 4.2-inch touchscreen and a “hidden slide-out keyboard”.
Another device called the Nautilus will also come with a touchscreen on board and a slide-out keyboard. A sensor will extend an withdraw the keyboard and it will also have an ultra-thin keypad. The device might not be sold until 2010 but by the end of the year we should have more information about it.
Nokia might reveal its new Linux software later this year at a Nokia event in Germany. Hopefully by that time we’ll have photos of the new Internet tablet and the Nautilus to show you. Until then all we can do is wonder what will Nokia come up with next in order to keep its impressive marketshare in the mobile business.

Here is a great new device that techie people will love. If you are envious about the Sony Vaio users, here is an alternative mobile computing device you can consider getting. It is the Wistron Firstbook.
The Wistron Firstbook will have the ARM Snapdragon processor running within, and also holds the distinction of being the first Linux-based netbook. The Firstbook shares some resemblance to a Sony Vaio P and features the following:
It remains to be seen though if the Wistron Snapdragon netbook will make it to the masses, or is just a demonstration platform for ARM.

While its Android smartphone is not ready yet, Kogan seems also interested in netbooks. And these aren’t usual netbooks, but Linux-powered machines. The 10-inch netbooks should arrive soon for a price of around $530. Inside you’ll find an Intel Atom processor, 160 GB of HDD, 1GB of RAM and Linux of course. So will we actually see this Linux netbook or is it as real as the Agora phone?

Intel seems to really enjoy these netbooks. Besides the Atom processors, the company has neatly created a personal Linux OS, especially designed for the Atom processor. Moblin is the name of this modified Linux version and you should give it a chance if you have a netbook around. It might replace that Windows XP you might be using currently.
Moblin is available as an alpha release for now but we’re hoping it will grow to a final version. The software was built off of the GNOME Mobile platform and will use the Clutter and GUPnP open source technologies which are also properties of Intel. Let’s see what manufacturer will offer the first netbook with Moblin on it.

Make room for one more player in the mobile market. The new player is Intel which promises to unveil a new class of “Mobile Internet Services”. The chips are going to be based on a Linux software called “Moblin 2″ which will be in developers’ hands by March.
The move is seen as something risky for Intel and while many know how Intel takes pride in its business, it has to be better than the Iphone, Palm and the Google phones.
It is possible that Intel is planning to release a cut price smart phone which will knock the wind out of more expensive models which are only cheap due to supply deals.
