  • LG Chocolate BL20 Slide Phone

A lot of attention has been focused on the LG BL40 at the IFA trade show. But is that all that LG Electronics had to offer for the event? Apparently there is another model they forgot to mention, presumably one model lower than the LG BL40.

The LG BL20 was also at Berlin but on a full page ad complete with image and specs. Though nothing was announced on when it would be made available, it does carry the features and design we can all associate with LG’s roster of chocolate phones. But for now, all we can depict from it is that it is a slider phone. Other features? Well a wild guess is that it would carry lesser features considering that the model may be a bit lower or a subsidiary to the much publicized LG Chocolate BL40.

  • Nokia Pulls Out of MWC

You can forget about seeing how Nokia fares in this year’s Mobile World Congress. The telecom giant has announced that Nokia will not take part this year, apparently tightening their belt in the midst of this financial crisis the world economy is in. Actually if you think about it, Nokia may not need to be there at all considering the popularity that they have among the leaders in the telecoms industry.

And while most consumers are sure to be disappointed, other companies like Samsung, LG Electronics and Sony Ericsson are apparently pleased of this development. Why? Well for one, they have lesser worries on competing for attention for their current mobile lineup, something that Nokia has been hogging through the years. If you want to sum it all up for Nokia’s adversaries, the time to shine is now!

  • Predictive texting is a feature that has made life easier for people who are fond of sending text messages in a hurry. While spelling may not be an issue for some when it comes to common day language, the need to be sure that accuracy for proper noun words like actual real names or places can really help a lot in speeding up the text composition phase.

Today, most phones carry the said predictive text messaging assistance and LG Electronics for its part isn’t taking any chances. LG and Nuance Communications have extended their relationship in integrating the T9 and XT9 predictive text input towards its line of mobile phones, making sure that their patrons don’t complain about the hardships of composing a simple text message.

“It’s not just about voice calls on phones today – being able to simply and intuitively send emails and text messages is just as important, which is why many of the world’s leading handset manufacturers rely on our T9 predictive text portfolio,” said Michael Thompson, senior vice president and general manager, Nuance Mobile. “LG has some of the hottest devices on the market and by leveraging T9 and XT9, users around the world will continue to leverage the power that our combined innovation delivers for texting and emailing – or any other text input command.”

  • Fractus is a Spanish company which you haven’t really gotten to know so far. Now it’s time for it’s moment of glory! Fractus has decided to sue not one, not two, but ten mobile phone manufacturers which apparently have infringed not one, not two, but nine different patents which concern internal antennas.

These manufacturers are: Samsung, LG Electronics, Research In Motion, HTC, Palm, Pantech, Sharp, Kyocera, Sanyo and UTStarcom. And Fractus is a company which holds more than 80 patents worldwide, 30 of them right in the United States. The suit was filed in the USA and we’ll just have to wait and see what happens next. Fractus’s lawyer said:

It is very brave of Fractus to fight against these cell phone companies, many of whom knew about Fractus and its technology yet still continued to infringe. Fractus’s inventions have added tremendous value to both the cell phone user and manufacturer.

LG Rumor2 Coming Out in Style!

LG Electronics looks like they will put up the stakes as far as style is concerned for the LG Rumor2 as it has announced a partnership with fashion icon Heidi Klum. As part of the partnership, LG is unveiling personalized back plates for their recently released LG Rumor2, which is available exclusively through Sprint.

Heidi Klum, in her role as LG’s Ambassador of Style, lent her expertise to design five back plates and skins that express her personal style. Like Heidi, consumers can express their individual style and unique personalities by customizing their LG Rumor2.

The partnership includes an advertising campaign, online webisodes, and a consumer promotion. The eight webisodes will be hosted by Heidi Klum and will live on www.lgrumor2.com. Here, aspiring fashionistas will have the opportunity to win a seat at Heidi’s Style Council where they will design the next LG Rumor2 back plate. They will be judged on their creativity and design execution. The winner will have their design featured in the exclusive collection, alongside Heidi Klum’s creations.

LG and Sprint are proud to offer consumers LG Rumor2, which is an updated version of one of their most popular messaging devices - LG Rumor. LG Rumor redefined the category by bringing a fashion based, affordable full QWERTY device to the market.

  • LG Neon TE365F QWERTY Phone

LG Electronics offers a low cost phone that possesses the high quality features like QWERTY and touch screen features, then the LG Neon may be worth checking out. Also available through Rogers Wireless, the LG Neon is not supposed to compete against a BlackBerry or an iPhone. Instead, it’s a slightly beefier multimedia phone that happens to rock a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Texters will find that quite useful.

The most notable feature on the LG Neon TE365F is its slide-out QWERTY keyboard. This three-row keyboard will certainly come in handy for pumping out those text messages, instant messages, and emails. When you slide out the keyboard, the display automatically orients to landscape mode as well. The display also happens to be a touchscreen, but it comes with a few limitations that I’ll describe a little later in this review.

Other notable features on this multimedia and messaging-minded handset include tri-band (850/1800/1900) GSM/EDGE connectivity, Bluetooth, integrated MP3 player, FM radio, 2 megapixel camera (no flash), picture and video messaging, and an SMS conversation box. It’s nice to see a couple of notable basics like the MP3 player and digital camera, but there isn’t much here that’s going to floor you. At the same time, you have to realize that this phone only costs fifty bucks with contract. That’s pretty cheap.

Inside the box are the phone itself, a SIM card, charger, and supporting documentation. Even though there’s an MP3 player inside and the phone uses a proprietary connection, there is no provided headset.

The LG Neon TE365F QWERTY messaging phone is available through Fido for $50 with a qualifying two-year service agreement or for $175 outright.

  • LG GM200 Candybar Mobile Phone

LG Electronics has added a new member to its GM series with the unveiling of the LG GM200 Candybar Mobile Phone. The new device is the third to be included in the lineup lately, following the LG GM730, which came featuring Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating system, and the GM310, which brought a sliding form factor.

The newly unveiled LG GM200 comes as a simple candybar mobile phone that packs Dolby Mobile technology, along with stereo speakers. The handsets also sports a nice range of multimedia features, such as music and video players, as well as a built-in FM antenna. In addition, it seems that the phone maker also added a background noise sensor, which is meant to automatically adjust the volume when it is necessary.

The LG GM200 candybar also features

    • GSM/GPRS connectivity
    • Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP
    • 30MB of internal memory coupled with a microSD memory card slot to offer additional storage space for those who need it.

The handset measures 106 x 48 x 14.7 mm and looks pretty nice, the same as most of LG’s candybar mobile phones.

The LG GM200 is expected to become available in May
