HTC HD2/Leo Announced Officially

It’s finally happened! The HD2 or Leo is now an official HTC phone. It has been confirmed by both Microsoft and, more importantly by HTC.

The HD2 is a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone which will bring you a confirmed 4.3-inch capacitive WVGA touchscreen display, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, a 5-megapixel camera, WiFi, Microsoft Exchange, proximity and light sensors and a Twitter application, HTC Peep.

The phone will be available in France from Orange this month with other European markets to follow soon. U.S. customers will see the HD2 only early next year so you’ll have to wait a while to get it. Official pricing for the HD2 hasn’t been announced yet. How much would you pay for it?

  • We knew the 1GHz Snadragon processor would work wonders, but we never expected it to be 300% better than the Touch HD in the graphics area.  Of course, the ginormous capacitive touchscreen display is a lot of help along with its other unbelievable specs, but with 1822% increase on a single test, we are looking at one wild stallion, people! We at MobileWhack can’t wait to get our hands on this superphone when it is scheduled to drop in October, but we are sure you guys can’t wait too.  Hit the link below to get the full details on the tests.

  • HTC Leo renders surface?

Last month we notified you of a phone that HTC was said to be working on codenamed the Leo. Today we bring you two renders that are supposedly of the HTC Leo.

Several things make these shots generally unbelievable, first of all it has a Pro.Three branding on the back which doesn’t make sense considering HTC has always included a QWERTY keyboard with their Pro offerings. Second of all, there is a block of text under the Pro.Three branding that is nothing more than filler text (lorem ipsum, etc.).

So while our source seems pretty confident that these are actual pictures of the device, we’ll have to wait for official confirmation until we put any stock in this one.

  • Contrary to the earlier rumors that the HTC Leo would be a flip phone, news has now surfaced that the forthcoming HTC handset might in fact carry a regular monoblock form factor, like the iPhone or HTC’s own Touch HD.  A full spec sheet was recently unearthed on ai.rs blog, which, while confirming the Snapdragon CPU, also revealed:

    • 4.3 inch WVGA (480 x 800) capacitive touchscreen display
    • 5MP autofocus camera with dual LED flash
    • Quad-band GSM/EDGE connectivity and dual-band HSDPA connectivity (900/2100 MHz)
    • WiFi
    • GPS, A-GPS
    • Accelerometer with light & proximity sensors
    • 3.5mm headset jack
    • 1GHz MSM 8250 Snapdragon CPU with 512MB flash memory, 320MB RAM
    • MicroSD card support
    • 1230 mAh battery
    • 121 x 67 x 11 millimeters

From the looks of it, the Leo is going to be one fast (and big) cellphone, but nothing is concrete right now including its name (as Leo is just the codename) until HTC thinks it’s the right to reveal so, which we hope will happen pretty soon.

  • HTC is certainly keeping itself busy. The company has new smartphones in mind and we can expect them to appear any time in the future. The list includes phones like Leo, Click, Mega and Rome.

The Leo is apparently a flip phone which will offer an internal WVGA screen and an external QVGA screen. Other specs include Open GL2.0 and a Snapdragon processor. Anxious about a new flip phone from HTC?

While the information about the Leo comes from a leaked Manilla 2.5, the other three names are mentioned in an eBay auction which sells a charger compatible with the Click, Mega, Rome and Leo phones. The Click is supposed to be an entry-level Android phone but we have no details regarding the phone. The Rome and Mega are the remaining two HTC phones but we’ll have to wait for someone to leak some specs before we can draw any conclusions.
