We knew this was coming and it looks like it has been confirmed already. 6% of Motorola’s global employees will be fired. That’s 4,000 people in one move. 3,000 of these are coming from the handset division. Will this move have an impact on Motorola’s future cell phones?
Motorola has decided to reduce its number of employees after not that a great forth quarter. The preliminary reports show a 7-8 cent per share loss. If Motorola had better phones last year I am sure people would have bought more. And Motorola wouldn’t have had to fire all those people!

By now you are definitely use to seeing the buzz around Creative and its Zii Steamcell Computing. Right now we’re wondering how that whole new thing will be possible with the recent layoffs. The company has decided to fire about 2,700 people which is almost half of its current workforce. Last year was one of the worst financial years for Creative as the company had a net loss of $19.7 million. With all that in mind, how do you suppose that the Zii thing will work out for us? Is it really a product that will blow our minds considering the current economical crisis?

Marking a blow for the company’s operations, Sony Ericsson has announced that it will lay off 450 workers from its Research Triangle Park location, the headquarters for it sNorth American operations.
It was revealed to the employees in a mandatory all-staff meeting at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Durham.
The layoffs are part of company-wide changes, Sony Ericsson’s head of global communications and PR, Aldo Ligouri, revealed.
“This is our map of how we see things moving forward,” Ligouri said.
Sony Ericsson has been struggling recently, with low demand for high-end phones and delayed products hurting profits.
