WWDC 2009: New MacBook Air

Sure you could always choose one of its direct competitors, the Adamo from Dell or one of the X-Slim laptops from MSI, but for those of you with a bigger wallet, the Air is probably the best way to go.

Apple decided to offer everyone a $300/$700 price drop depending on what model you choose but the MacBook Air it’s still expensive with prices starting at $1,499. The cheapest version will offer you a 1.86GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB DDR3 RAM, a 9400M graphics card and a 120GB HDD. For $1,799 you get a 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB DDR3 RAM, a 9400M graphics card and a 128GB SSD.

  • Samsung seems to want to make its N310 netbooks more popular. And what better way to make everyone talk about them then making a neat viral videos featuring cartoons fighting each other. Well it looks like only the girl is fighting in this cartoonish ad, and for what it’s worth I love the train trick. The boy is too busy talking N310 specs but I feel I must be more efficient than he is.

    The N310 is a 10-inch netbook made by Samsung capable to offer you a pleasant experience. It will juggle with emails, internet, videos and even work.   • RIM Will Not Make Notebooks

    While Google is definitely interested in turning Android into an OS ready to compete against Windows or Mac, RIM doesn’t want to make any notebooks soon. Jim Balsillie, RIM’s CEO says that the company will be totally dedicated to the cell phone business. Even Nokia is considering expanding to laptops and netbooks while Acer and Dell are more and more interested in the cell phone business. Does the mobile business include now laptops and netbooks too? Should one have them all? Better throw in an App Store and you’ve got everything prepared for imminent success.

    MSI has new slim notebooks in town which seem ready to battle against the MacBook Air. The new machines are the X-Slim X400 and the X600. These are 14-inch and 15-inch laptops which will come with Intel’s Consumer Ultra Low Voltage processors, a 16:9 ratio, LED-backlit displays, Blu-ray graphics and 8-cell/9-cell batteries.     Despite having the price of a new netbook this Dell Inspiron 15 is a 15-inch regular laptop. And it comes with regular laptop specs like a 2.16GHz Celeron processor, 2GB of RAM and Vista in the background. I am not a fan of netbooks for obvious reasons although they can come quite in handy in some situation. Were I to choose between the newest netbook available and a $399 laptop which is has better features, guess what I’d choose? But enough about me, what would you pick?

    Android running on netbooks and laptops is the next logical step of Google’s OS and its progress. While the big names in the industry are working on such devices, a Chinese manufacturer, Skytone is the first company ready to show off a working prototype. The Alpha 680, which we have already seen, will have an ARM11 533MHz CPU, a 7-inch 800×480 display, 128MB of DDR2 RAM, a 1GB SSD drive, SD slot, two USB ports, WiFi and a 2-cell battery. The Alpha 680 will be probably just the first Android netbook and we’re anxious to see what it can do. The device will launch in Q3 2009 and it will cost around $250.

    Dell lifted the veil off its newest laptop offering in the market in the Vostro laptops. These new mobile devices are designed expressly to meet small business needs and custom-built to maximize productivity amidst shrinking travel budgets with free, pre-installed videoconferencing and webcam software with purchase of integrated webcam and microphone.

    In the current economy, small businesses are relying on productivity and collaboration solutions more heavily than ever as a cost-effective alternative to business travel.

  • The current economy status seems perfect for the clip above. Microsoft is taking advantage of our budgets while pointing out to everyone that Apple overcharges people when it comes to laptops.

    Although the I’m a Mac series of commercial is funnier, Microsoft seems to get the hang of it. The Windows Laptop Hunters campaign will probably not end here. Now it’s a young woman looking for speed, a comfortable keyboard and a 17-inch screen, and all that for well under $1,000. When she finds it she gets to keep it, no matter if it’s a Mac or a PC. The MacBook was obviously not a match so she ended up with an HP Pavilion which cost Microsoft $699.99. Is Microsoft going to continue the series? We certainly hope so.
