Future Lenovo ThinkPad laptops will include a nice feature in the future. A feature which will prevent unwanted people to use your laptop after stealing it. With the SMS disable option you will be able to send a tiny SMS message which will disable your laptop. In order to set it up you need to also get a data plan and get a WAN card but it should be all worth it. The process is reversible in case you misplace your laptop but think it was stolen.
There’s a minor major flaw with the whole concept. In case the thief removes the SIM card from the laptop your hole SMS disable plan won’t work at all.

The first multi-touch laptop was bound to be released sooner or later, especially with Windows Mobile 7 being developed to support multi-touch. And it was HP, not Apple, that managed to pull it off. The TouchSmart tx2 will get you multi-touch two-finger control but there’s a catch to it. The whole multi-touch thing works only with the HP MediaSmart suite of applications.
The TouchSmart tx2 is a 12.1 inch laptop which can get you up to 8GB of RAM. An AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core processor will power it all up and you can opt for storage space anywhere from 160 to 500GB. The WXGA screen has an embedded N-trig digitizer which will help you do all that multi-touching. No word on availability and pricing yet, but we’ll keep you posted!
With the first multi-touch laptop already out, we’re going to wait for the rest of them to appear.

The USB 3.0 might be closer than it appears. The USB Promoter Group finalized the “SuperSpeed” USB 3.0 specification today and we are to expect more details to emerge soon.
Flash drives and hard drives are expected to be the first devices to take advantage of the new technology but we’re at least 8 months away from an USB 3.0 product release. The second half of 2009 or even later will bring us the new USB 3.0 ready drives.
How fast is USB 3.0 you ask? Well imagine a 25GB HD movie. With USB 1.0 you would copy it in 9.3 hours. With current USB 2.0 you would do it in 13.9 minutes while with USB 3.0 the job is reduced to 70 seconds. We’re looking forward to a hands-on experience, whenever that will happen! Let’s see what Intel, Microsoft, NEC and Texas Instruments are going to do with the whole USB 3.0 thing!

Most people that have a Bentley can afford this exclusive laptop, but it wouldn’t make much sense to buy one because for the price of it, you can buy 4 or 5 really good notebooks. In the end it is the customer’s choice: Brand and style over functionality? Or performance over a fashion accessory?
In the inside of the Bentley laptop which is made by Ego Lifestyle there aren’t many top-notch features, it has a rather small 12.1-inch screen, a hard-drive with 160GB of storage capacity, and a glossy look. To make it run there are 2GB of memory RAM, and an unknown AMD 64 chipset.
How much would you pay for a laptop with these details? $20,000? I don’t think so…

eMachines already had some good computers, like the EL1200 Slim Tower, or the T5226 Desktop, but from a laptop point of view there is a new product codenamed eMD620-5777.
The latest 14.1-inch laptop from eMachines sports an AMD Athlon 2650e processor running at 1.6GHz, and 1GB of memory RAM plus 160GB on the hard-drive. One of the most important details of this notebook is the price, it can be considered cheap because it only costs $430.
The ATI Radeon x1200 is in charge of the graphics department, which can support up to 1919MB of ATI HyperMemory. The usual specs on laptops, like Wi-Fi, and a SuperMulti DVD-R/RW drive are also part of the deal.

Computers combined with style is a trend that is becoming more popular, and that is probably why HP decided to create Vivienne. While the netbook was presented in a fashion show a few months ago, in September, it will only hit the shelves later this year, during December.
Being a netbook, the Vivienne Tam Edition will most probably come with a smallish 10-inch display screen, and an Intel Atom processor with 1GB of memory RAM, a 80GB hard-drive, and a SD memory card reader. The specific details are scarce right now, but we’ll keep you updated.
Anyhow, this is definitely a good option for people that enjoy fashion, don’t you think?

It seems as if HP is joining in the touch screen bandwagon. After Asus announced their touch screen Eee PC, we now receive news that HP is aspiring for one of their own. The Wall Street Journal reported that HP plans to release a touch-screen-enabled laptop by year’s end. Price and exact release date are unavailable at this time.
Last year HP released the TouchSmart IQ770 and this year the IQ506. Both are touch-screen desktops that were HP’s first major forays into the technology. According to the article, the new laptop is only the latest in a series of touch-oriented devices, including an upcoming line of cell phones that will become a priority of HP’s consumer strategy.
HP is said to be working on a line of consumer cell phones that feature touch screens and the first such phone will be introduced in Europe this year. HP plans to start selling the phones through a U.S. cellular carrier within the next year or so.

Circuit City has recently added a new Compaq laptop to their online catalog, the Presario CQ70. The real price of the notebook is $730, but adding the rebates of $120 and $30 makes the price drop to $580, which in the end is a really nice price.
To start with, the Presario CQ70 boasts an Intel processor - Pentium Dual Core 2GHz - and 3GB of DDR2 RAM memory. The screen is in the high category of 17-inches and thanks to the GMA 4500MHD graphics processor you’ve got a 1440×990 resolution. The hard-drive of the CQ70 can store 205GB of data, and the connectivity options include WiFi (802.11a/b/g/n) and 3 USB ports.
A DVD burner + VGA port + full-sized keyboard is also included in the sweet deal.

It looks like the immediate future of netbooks will bring some new features for the tiny computers. We are to expect dual core Atom chips, 3G and WiMAX support and touchscreens.
Asus was rumored to introduce touchscreens in their Eee PCs since the beginning of the year. However we don’t have any Eee netbook sporting a touchscreen yet. Asus is reported to be working on the touchscreen Eee which will hit the market sometime in Q1 2009. Probably the CES 2009 will see the new netbook.
We’re waiting to see how everyone else will upgrade their current notebooks. But I have to say that a touchscreen notebook sounds a lot better than a regular one.

Asus has become the first company in the world to announce a Quad Core Gaming Notebook, and it is codenamed G71. The top-notch notebook has gamers as the target because almost all the recent games require a lot of resources in order to run smoothly. This is when gaming consoles step in the game, but that is another story…
The Asus G71 boasts the fresh Intel processor, also known as Core 2 Extreme QX9300, and as company in the graphics section there is a NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT with 512MB. As for the RAM memory, 4GB of DDR3 should be enough to play most games. The display screen is a 17-inch Crystal Shine with 8ms of response time, while the hard-drive hits the top at 1TB by using two hard-drives of 500GB each.
Addiotional extras include gaming hotkeys to launch your prefered games with a touch of a button, bluetooth, a blue-ray drive, and strangely enough the Overspeed Protection has been removed which means you can overclock it as needed.

The 12.1-inch LCD screen features a black light LED so you can see better, and a WXGA resolution of 1280×800 pixels – not too bad for a small notebook.
In terms of performance it is well equipped, with an Intel Core 2 Duo SU9300 processor at 1.20GHz, standard 2GB of RAM memory that can be expanded to 3GB, and a DVD Super Multi Drive.

Remember the small LG notebooks released last year during September and October? In case you can’t recall, I’ll refresh your memory by presenting the R200 and E200 – both have a small form factor and a humble 12.1-inch display screen.
In addition to those 2 models, LG has recently come up with a new netbook named Xnote Mini. As the name suggests, the mini computer has a tiny LCD screen that only measures 10-inches.

We have one more MSI laptop on our virtual hands which is the PR201. The first thing that will strike us is the light weight of this one. MSI says the PR201 weighs only 3.97 pounds, battery included.
