All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

Samsung has just announced that their SCH-W8300 handset is now available in South Korea on the LGT, SKT and KTF carriers.

This device features a 2MP camera, spring loaded flip design and a special external display capable of producing a “variety of illumination and light effects”. Other specs include GSM/3G HSDPA support, preloaded games and gesture control.

When I say gesture control I mean you can turn your phone face down to ignore a call. Pretty cool right?

KTFT has added a new clamshell to its lineup, the EV-W530.  The EV-W530 or the Audition features HSDPA 7.2Mbps with global roaming, a terrestrial DMB receiver, and an mp3 player with microSD support.  Also thrown in are a 2-megapixel camera, English dictionary, Metro Maps, and a 3D “Sensibility” user interface to make menu navigation a little more fun.  But what gives it the nickname of Audition is its keypad, which can form up to 16 different animations using the keypad’s LED lighting and the navigation keys that can display up to 8 different colors.  A pretty cool feature to have if you are a teenager, but otherwise of no real use, if you ask us.  There is no information on its release date or a price, but we are pretty sure that this won’t step out of Korean boundaries like all the other good Korean tech we come across.

LG has yet again renamed its popular clamshell, the LG Wine as the KH4500 for its debut in Korea. The KH4500 is already available in the European market and Canada as the KF300 and NTT DoCoMo has released it in Japan as the FOMA L706ie in July 2008. For Korea, KTF will be the lucky carrier who will start selling this device starting today, October 16. Although the names are different, the feature set has remained constant and the KH4500 is no different from any other Wine versions that have been released already.

The LG KH4500 has a big 2.4-inch 262k QVGA display molded into its flip form factor and along with a host of other features fit for a mid-range clamshell, barring the HSDPA support. It is designed to work with both W-CDMA and GSM systems with full support for video calling at HSDPA speeds and also has a terrestrial TV tuner, a 1.3 megapixel camera with autofocus.

The LG KH4500 is available starting today with an undisclosed price tag.

  • Pantech has launched another mobile phone under its Sky branding, the IM-S380K. This new slider is HSDPA capable, so KTF users can be sure that they will be able to stay connected at pretty good speeds at any given time. There’s a front-facing camera for video calling and a dedicated button for quick email access, but otherwise, the features are pretty usual with an FM radio, music player, Bluetooth, electronic dictionary, and memory expansion. Look for it to show up on KTF, South Korea, in colors of white, pink, and black during the coming months for 400000 KRW (approx. $355).

  • Wonder how many more sliders Samsung has got in store for us this year. The latest in line is the SPH-W5200 in its Anycall series of cell phones, which seems to be destined for a Korea-only release for now, given that it will be available on Korea’s KTF network. Like the other cell phones in the “W” line, the SPH-W5200 is designed for the globetrotter with support for global roaming, but other than that, it pretty much stays below the mid-range limit for features. You will find the same terrestrial DMB support that every other Korean handset seems to have along with a 2-megapixel camera, mp3 player, and microSD support. It also supports HSDPA with video calling and has Bluetooth 2.0 to take care of your wireless needs. The SPH-W5200 is available now on KTF at an unknown price.

Here is one more cell phone destined for a Korea-only life. The Pantech IM-U300K is a clamshell that is HSDPA capable with WCDMA global roaming and video calling. There is also the usual suite of applications like an mp3 player, electronic dictionary, and a document viewer. But what sets it apart isn’t the terrestrial DMB TV or the passable 2-megapixel camera but the 49 LED dots that are present on the front folder of the IM-U300K. These LEDs have the ability to form personalized icons/messages for 15 different situations including receiving messages, alarm, and caller identification. Furthermore, users can also create their own personalized icons with the bundled PC Sync Tool.

The IM-U300K Neon-Sign phone will be available in a choice of white, sky blue, and black on Korea’s KTF mobile network although there is no information on when.
