All The Latest Cell Phone and Mobile Electronics News

Yesterday Kodak filled a lawsuit on the US against two of the most popular companies in the mobile world: Samsung and LG.

The lawsuit is related to digital-camera patents, and includes the following functionalities: image capture, compression, data storage, and preview of images in motion.

So, what does Kodak really want? Basically they want to prohibit import and sales of the Samsung and LG products that use the patents. As for what they ask in the lawsuit: unspecified damages. Classic!

  • Motorola keeps launching various cell phones out there hoping that one of them will be a hit. At least I hope they are hoping that. The MOTOZINE ZN5 has been released by T-Mobile . You’ll get a 5-megapixel Kodak camera with xenon flash, quadband EDGE, WiFi support and a keypad that morphs. All that for the cheap price of $99 with a two-year contract.

Not a bad deal, but the phone is far from becoming a hit. The ZN5 is available in T-Mobile stores as of right now, so go check one out.

After the ZN5, Moto is working on another phone that will bring us that 5 megapixel camera. The rumored handset is the Motorola VE66 which could be quite a smartphone. It will feature 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity and it will run on Montavista v2.6.10 Linux OS. Add a Freescale SCM-A11 500MHz processor, a 2.4 inch 16 million TFT display and a microSD slot and you might have quite a nice Motorola phone on your hands.

We’re going to count on the same Kodak camera lens as the ZN5 had and we’re going to hope the VE66 will be released soon. This might just be one of the Motorola Phones we’ve been waiting for.

How do you like your current camera? What is it? A 3.2 megapixels phone? A 5 megapixels 5 years old camera? A new 8 megapixels Sony Ericsson mobile phone? A whooping 12 megapixels camera? Do you need more megapixels? How about the 50 megapixels camera from Kodak?

  • Zi6 Kodak Camcorder YouTube Ready

We have another camcorder here made with YouTube in mind. Today we are taking a closer look at Kodak’s Zi6 camcorder. We’ve seen yesterday a Samsung camcorder made specifically for YouTube fans but not only.
Let me tell you from the start I prefer the Samsung so far. It looks like a camera while the Zi6 looks more like a cell phone.

    Motorola ZN5 gets official

I know 5 megapixels is so passe, now that Sony Ericsson has started the next step in cameraphone evolution with its 8.1mpx lens, but the name “Kodak” should still ignite some fire in some die-hard photogs. Anyways, Motorola has finally admitted its existence and with all the leaks, we pretty much know what else the ZN5 has other than the Kodak-branded 5mpx lens. Although there’s no 3G, this shooter will work on 900/1800/1900 MHz networks and has EDGE support. The 2.4-inch display is good enough to work as a viewfinder and Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR and WiFi should just about take care of any connectivity needs. The whole setup runs on Montavista Linux 2.6.1 OS along with TV-out and a media player.

China is the first frontier with rest of the Asia to follow. No word on whether it will make an appearance stateside or not.

From what we can see in this leaked picture, Kodak will manufacture cameras for new Motorola cell phones. The ZN5 might be the first Motorola phone to have a 5 megapixel camera built in.

If it’s true this is certainly a bold move for both Motorola and Kodak too. Sony’s Cybershot phones are good cameras right? The iPhone is the most chosen camera according to Flickr users and Nokia is close behind. It was time Motorola did something like this in order to have a fighting chance. This move will benefit Kodak as well since cell phones aren’t just cell phones anymore.

If it’s not true maybe Kodak will get inspired by it to enter Motorola’s world
