Kindle 2 gets $60 price cut

If you were looking to pick up one of Amazon’s Kindle 2 eBook readers but haven’t been able to justify the $300+ price tag, a recent price cut to $299 may have made it a bit more palatable.

Don’t get this device confused with the 9.7″ Kindle DX as this price cut only applies to the 6″ Kindle 2.

Is this price cut just what was needed for you to slap down the big bucks for one of these eBook readers? For me, another $100 wouldn’t hurt.

  • What, you didn’t expect it to last much longer than that did you? Despite it’s high almost-$500-price the buyers have managed to completely exhaust Amazon’s entire stock of the Kindle DX.

However, those looking to get their hands on the device should make note that its product listing page states that it will be back in stock on June 17th.

How many devices they are going to have, we have no idea, but if you want to give yourself the greatest possibility of securing one on June 17th, order it now.

Oh yeah, Amazon also subtly notes that their smaller device, the Kindle 2, is in stock and ready to ship.

  • Amazon has recently announced that their bigger-screen-touting eBook reader, the Kindle DX, will ship to consumers on June 10th.

For those who don’t know the Kindle DX was announced shortly after the Kindle 2 and features a bigger screen, accelerometere and of course, a bigger price range. $489 to be exact.

Also, just so you know, Amazon opened up preorders for the Kindle DX some time ago so chances are if you haven’t already done so, you will be receiving the device sometime after June 10th.

    Bookeen showcases Cybook Opus

Now, there’s not much information on Bookeen’s latest eBook reader, the Cybook Opus, but from what we know it sure does sound promising.

The device featured above will apparently weigh just 5.10 ounces and fit in your pocket despite the fact that it has a 6″ screen. Interntal storage clocks in at 1GB which can be used to store PDF, HTML, ePub, and other text formatted eBooks. Gizmodo says that the battery life will last for 8,000 page flips and 21 days of standby.

Unfortunately there are no built in 3G capabilities like in the Kindle but that means the Cybook Opus will probably be affordable. Expect to see this thing in stores next month.

  • The new Amazon Kindle is going to be revealed soon but since you hate waiting for all those specs we have some cool leaked information for you. The Kindle DX (yes, that’s the new name) will have a 9.7-inch display, a built-in PDF reader, the ability of adding annotations, notes and highlights, an optional $9.95/month New York Times subscription and optional textbooks for chemistry, computer schience and a freshman seminar. Those textbooks will be included this fall for students attending the courses of the Case Western Reserve University and other five schools are also interested in giving this new Kindle a test run. If you’re going to be a student at Pace, Princeton, Reed, Arizona State or the Darden School at the Univeristy of Virginia then you might just be issued one new Kindle this year.

We’ll be back with more details when Amazon will make its official announcement.
