All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

Apart from the black and red colors that the original announcement declared, it seems that Research in Motion is also prepping a silver version of its first clamshell, the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220, for specific markets. An official press release shows the Kickstart in all its silver glory and we have to agree that the silver does look good on the device including its SureType keypad and the dark black front facade. Anyway, we just hope that T-Mobile and Rogers start selling the device already, whatever color it may be in, as we just can’t wait to see how well RIM is going to fare with its first foray into the flip phone realm. One more picture after the break…

Canada’s Rogers will offer you the BlackBerry Kickstart 8220 if you happen to be in Canada for a while. While there aren’t any changes in specs from what we know about the 8220, there appear to be some changes in pricing.

It appears that Rogers will charge 149CAD for it with a 3 year 35CAD per month plan. That’s unusual considering that Rogers was thinking about selling the clamshell smartphone for 99CAD. A further discount of 50CAD was to be given to students opting for a 3 year 49CAD per month plan. Who knows what’s the final price after all.

We knew that this BlackBerry clamshell would stick to T-Mobile whenever it will be released, but this new rumor about its price is something we couldn’t foresee. CrackBerry has been hearing many a birdie point at a $49.99 price tag, roughly the same that you would pay for a Moto Razr on T-Mobile with a two-year contract. That would just about make the Kickstart the cheapest smartphone when it comes out most probably in September, and T-Mobile might have a chance to stop some of its customers from hopping on to the iPhone 3G bandwagon, all set to roll in a week’s time on AT&T. But as with all rumors, we can’t help but be skeptical and hope RIM/T-Mobile makes it official in the coming days…
