BenQ wants a piece of that netbook action and it has a JoyBook to prove it. The computer comes with a 10 inch screen, a 160GB hard drive, Windows XP on board, 1.5GB of RAM and a full version of Office 2003. Notice the differences? The extra RAM is very welcomed and the Office 2003 kit will be put to good use.
The JoyBook is also easier to upgrade. You can access the HDD, the RAM and there are slots available for a SSD or a mini PCI-e. The netbook will cost around $550 in Taiwan but arrival dates and prices in other markets are still unknown. The price is not bad at all considering the differences between regular netbooks and what BenQ has just revealed.

The latest Joybook model we mentioned was the R45, which at the time (April 2008) was fine for living. But if you want to get serious and more professional with a fast laptop, check out the follow-up model R46.
It still has the same screen display as the previous version - 14.1-inch WXGA - but the processor is much better now, an Intel Pentium Dual-Core T3400. The RAM memory starts at 1GB, but can be expanded up to 4GB depending on your needs. There are also a few choices for the hard-drive that differ in the storage capacity: 160GB, 250GB, or 230GB.
On the graphics card the BenQ R46 has a GMA X4500HD, and the high-definition is present in audio too, thanks to the built-in speakers and microphone.
Other details on the BenQ Joybook R46:
- 4 USB ports
- HDMI out
- ExpressCard slot (more…)

Another Joybook is joining Benq just recently. The Joybook R43, featuring a bright 14.1” UltraVivid widescreen display, the latest Intel Core2 Duo processor, Windows Vista operating system, Wi-fi connectivity and a brand new lid design.
The BenQ Joybook R43 is designed to capture the spirit of a great metropolis. The Joybook R43 features a deep black lid accented by a unique ornamental band. The unique ornamental band was imprinted with Laminar Film technology to outline a great metropolis’ skyline in pop art style. Consumers can see points of illumination appear, particularly when the ambient light is low. The nocturnal urban feel is extended when users open the lid, displaying a luminous blue-lit power button and indicator lights.
Featuring Intel Core2 Duo processor and SiS Mirage 3+ chipset with Windows Vista operating system, the Joybook R43 provides multimedia applications, digital home features in combination with performance and data security. The Joybook R43 also allows easy access to the Internet using high-speed Wi-fi networks, and connects easily to Bluetooth-capable phones and peripherals, such as mice and keyboards. Whether at work or at play, consumers can enjoy the freedom of going online, listening to music, and linking to other devices without the constraints and hassles of cables.
The BenQ Joybook R43 will firstly be available in China in December, with other countries to follow in the coming months.
