All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

One of the “not so popular” Samsung devices also known as Jet S8000 has received an unofficial firmware update. The unofficial part is the bad news, but the good news is the good feedback that has been mentioned by customers that already installed the new firmware.

Anyway, the new version is named S8000XEII2 and there are a few notable improvements:

- on the phone browser just use the volume rocket to scroll pages;
- gallery mode is faster in some aspects, but when it comes to opening images it is still a bit slow;
- new widgets such as twitter, myspace, and facebook;
- new background picture for the (3D) Cube;

  • Samsung decided to make an interesting, and funny at the same time commercial, for its Jet phone while trying to make it look like the real thing. The video above shows you exactly what Samsung pulled off. Two elephants are bungee jumping from a ship in front of the amazed audience. The moment is so unique and short that nobody except for a Samsung Jet can capture it. And since Samsung tries so desperately to make it look like the real thing we should enter its game and assume the space ship belongs to one of Samsung’s top executives. In which case we’d like to see more of it in the following Jet ads.

  • The Samsung Jet was officially unveiled yesterday and it has already made an impression with Vodafone. The carrier will sell the Jet in the UK and those of you opting for a new two-year plan of at least £20 per month will get the phone for free. In case you already forgot or got your facts wrong, the Jet will offer you a 800MHz powerful processor which you will surely find a way to put to good use.

    Omnia LITE gets announced, too

    Jeeze, Samsung is really on a roll today, first the Jet then the Omnia II and now the Omnia LITE. This handset is obviously a lesser version of Samsung’s other recently announced (hence the LITE branding) but it still packs a punch nonetheless.

    The Omnia LITE features a touchscreen (no word on specs), a 3MP camera, Windows Mobile, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, an Opera web browser and Samsung’s TouchWiz 2.0 UI.

    As you can see Samsung didn’t release many details regarding the LITE, presumably letting the Jet and Omnia II take the spotlight, but we will keep you updated as the story unfolds.

    No it’s not an iPhone or a Palm Pre, hell it’s not even running Android, but instead it’s Samsung’s previously unannounced Jet. This phone came seemingly out of no where but from the looks of the specs its shaping up to be an amazing device.

    The phone features an 800MHz processor (as compared to the iPhone 3G S‘ 600Mhz) a 5MP camera, a 3.1-inch touchscreen AMOLED display, A-GPS, 2GB/8GB of internal storage with a microSD slot for an additional 16GB and last but not least a Samsung developed Webkit-touting web browser entitled Dolfin. OS wise its said to be running TouchWiz 2.0 which is a Samsung developed UI hoping to make for a more immersive and intuitive experience.

    Now unfortunately there is no word on if we will ever see the Samsung Jet hit stateside but if/when it does its sure to generate quite the buzz. You can get more information on the Samsung Jet, courtesy of Samsung USA, here.
