All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

All the way from China comes a cellphone like no other: it has above the average features, and a price below the normal.

In other words, the T160i-WIFI is a cellphone that supports JAVA and TV, bluetooth, and best of all it has WiFi - all of this for $157. The list of good details doesn’t stop there, the T160i has dual cameras so you can take photos and do some video calls, and even a touchscreen. If you thought that a cellphone with WiFi for that price is a good pick, just add the 8.1-megapixel camera and you have an excellent pick. Sadly I don’t think we’ll ever get to see this device on the US, because it looks like a “China only” phone.

It seems that hot on the heels of LG’s recently pictured BL40 is it’s brethren the BL42 slider. Pictured above is said handset which will also fall into LG’s Black Label series of devices.

Details haven’t been confirmed but reports say the device features a 240×320 resolution display, a 5MP display and a Java based operating system.

But honestly, who needs the BL42 when you can opt for the 4.1-inch touchscreen touting BL40? Well, maybe those on the budget assuming this phone is cheaper than the BL40. Either or, there was no mention of a price point or release date.

Despite the fact that the site isn’t in English, you can check out more pictures of the device, here.

Verizon Wireless is about to launch various Java-based services. The carrier is getting ready to dump BREW and hook up with Sun Microsystems in order to offer you various services and applications. Verizon hasn’t made it quite clear yet that it plans to dump the BREW platform but why use both when you can easily get anything you want out of a single platform? The company hasn’t announced this new move just yet so we’ll be waiting for the actual press release.

Motorola’s M990 mobile phone recently cleared the FCC hurdle. A GSM phone, it looks like the phone was in development for quite a while, as the user guide is dated October 2007. • wifiedge.jpgOne of the reasons why Smartphones and PDAs haven’t replaced Personal Computers is because of the size of the memory. These portable mobile devices have limited memory so developers need to bust their heads to create memory optimized applications (although some PDAs and Smartphones today are not affected by this limitations anymore). But in the near future, maybe this won’t be a problem anymore, especially since eMobiStudio has announced the release of its MemoryUp Standard Edition v1.5, a powerful Java virtual machine (JVM) management and RAM boosting tool specially designed for high-end smartphones and BlackBerry.

This tool will analyze your running J2ME (Java) programs and automatically allocate - “and recover” - RAM. I put the focus on the recover part since this is what’s usually the problem, recovering used memory. This, in turn, will boost system to its best performance. In case of some applications are no longer active on a smartphone or BlackBerry, MemoryUp can reclaim lost resources and put them to better use. By reclaiming resources, the mobile system does not need to access the hard drive as frequently. This will greatly enhance mobile phone’s overall performance.

MemoryUp Standard Edition v1.5 is now available for purchase. The price is $13.99 for a Symbian edition and $14.99 for a BlackBerry edition.
