If you happen to own an Omnia i900 phone from Samsung then you might be one of those lucky fellows that can honestly say they have taken a peak at Samsung’s upcoming Application Store. Unfortunately you’d have to go the UK, Italy or France as that’s where the store has been made available so far.

The store offers so far about 300 paid apps and lots of free apps ready to be installed on your Samsung phones. By the end of the year Samsung will have around 2,000 apps in the store. It’s not too much, but it’s a healthy start. Besides the i900, the Omnia II I8000 and the Omnia LTE B7300 will also get support for accessing the new Application Store. Anyone excited about the new app store?

We’ve seen the N900 available for pre-order in Italy and Germany first and now Nokia has put the Booklet 3G up for pre-order in Italy. The netbook costs 699 Euros with tax included which is about $1,021. That’s way too much for a netbook. We can expect to see the machine in the US soon but we can also expect it to cost way too much too. Why pay a higher price when you can purchase a way cheaper netbook that has similar specs inside? What do you say? What netbook have you purchased lately?

  • Just like we told you a few days ago, Nokia is already offering its brand new Internet Tablet to those of you willing to pay the full price. We’ve seen the N900 up for pre-order in Germany and Italy and now the U.S. Nokia site has the gadget available for pre-order too. In case money is no object to you then you’ll have no problem getting the N900 for $649. That sounds like a lot, sure, but not as much as $860. That’s how much Europeans will have to pay for the same N900 if they decide to pre-order it.

  • Samsung has been gaining ground in the recent weeks with its varied mobile handsets and it is only fitting to know that they will be topping all of these releases with their very own App Store. Samsung will be opening its own on-device application store for all its Samsung smartphones this coming September 14 in the United Kingdom, France and Italy. After this, over 30 other countries will also be having their own Samsung App Store. However, only the Omnia II and OmniaLITE handsets can access the app portal for the time being.

And similar to most online application sites, the Samsung App Store will also be offering various handset applications ranging from games, references, social networking and other solutions. Omnia users who want to access the site need to download a mobile client at samsungapps.com while the I8910 HD just have to update their software.

German and Italian customers interested in that hot Nokia Internet Tablet, the N900 Rover, can now pre-order it while they wait for Nokia to make the device available. Both German and Italian Nokia web stores have the N900 available for pre-order for just 600 Euros or just about $860, with free shipping. The N900 will be delivered to your home by October 1 or even earlier and we should expect Nokia to open pre-sales in other markets too. It looks like the N900 is even more expensive than the Booklet 3G which is certainly strange. What about you? Interested in getting the N900 or would you rather get the Booklet 3G?

  • Well folks I’d hate to be an Italian customer walking in a Vodafone shop for a new iPhone 3G S. People say that the iPhone 3G S will be really expensive and we can expect prices of 719 Euros for the 32GB version and 619 Euros for the 16GB version. The prices are incredibly high and we can only assume they will apply to customers not qualifying for a subsidized price. We’re expecting Vodafone to come clean and announce the subsidized prices soon.

We thought Vodafone would be the first carrier to make the second Android-powered cell phone, HTC Magic, available in Europe on May 5, but it looks like TIM, a carrier in Italy, might be the first to do that by a mere 24 hours.  A quick call from the guys over at Technophone to the carrier revealed that the stores are already in stock and the handset has now appeared on TIM’s website; so a May 4th release doesn’t seem implausible.  The HTC Magic has already been blessed by the FCC, so we may not have to wait long before the handset starts popping up Stateside too.

  • Samsung seems to have finally realized that it would be foolish not to use the successful “Omnia” moniker and has decided to use it after all with the Samsung i8910.  The i8910 is now scheduled for a release in Italy as the Omnia HD, although Samsung may still go ahead and release it as the i8910 HD in other markets.  Making the event a bit more special is Samsung’s colloboration with the movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which will be opening the same week, for the release of Omnia HD in Italy.  As we already know, the the i8910 is similar in most features to Samsung Omnia with a few worthy upgrades, the most notable being an 8-megapixel lens instead of 5 megapixels and the use of AMOLED technology instead of TFT for its 3.2-inch touchscreen display.  We still have no idea whether it will be able to record vidoes in 720p, but considering the HD tag that is attached to its name, we are betting it will.

Look for it to land in Italy on April 29 at an undisclosed price.

That first Android device, the HTC Dream has arrived in Italy and it’s going to be available from TIM. The phone will be offered for free for a contract but just in case you want to keep things simple you can also get it with a prepaid contract and it will cost you €429 or around $583. Would you be willing to pay that much for the G1 when the G2 is supposed to come out soon?

    Vodafone to Make Job Cuts

It looks like even the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer will have to undergo job cuts as well. This was announced as Vodafone is set to cut off some jobs to be able to reduce costs amidst the economic slowdown.

The company aims to announce the measures on Feb. 24, said the people, who declined to be identified because the plans are confidential. The jobs will be eliminated at Vodafone’s U.K. operations, the people said, declining to give a precise number.

Vodafone on Nov. 11 slashed its full-year sales forecast for the second time in four months, while keeping its profit forecast, raising the full-year free cash flow prediction and increasing the dividend payment.

Vodafone’s U.K. unit had a margin on earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of 23.2 percent in the six months ended Sept. 30. In Germany, Vodafone’s biggest market, the margin was 44 percent and in Italy 44.9 percent.

Olidata is a company in Italy which can make good laptops. At least they sound good enough to me since I haven’t actually had the chance of touching one yet. The company has announced the new Conte laptops. They are both 13.3-inch laptops and they are ultra-thin. It looks like Apple’s Air is quite an inspiration for more and more manufacturers.

One of the Conte comes with a 16:10 display and a 1280×800 resolution while the other one sports a 16:9 screen capable of a 1366×768 resolution. Both computers will have a Core 2 Due processor inside, optional built-in 3G WiMAX and a battery that will get you four hours of unplugged work. The extended battery will offer three extra hours. The 16:10 laptop has a few extras like the Intel Turbo Memory, a fingerprint reader, a backlit keyboard and a standard 3GB of RAM. How much for an Olidata Conte? Less than $1,300 when they will arrive in Europe in May.

  • While the Germany release will have to wait till next month, Samsung is all set to debut its latest flagship cell phone, the i900 or Omnia, in Italy. With its 3.2-inch haptic touchscreen, GPS, 5-megapixel camera, and other equally juicy features, the Omnia is certainly worth the 499 Euros it will command when released on July 22, but here’s something else that should bring more joy to the Italians. Starting July 14, any customer who cares to order the Samsung i900 through the Media World stores across Italy will also become a proud owner of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 gaming console, at no extra cost. Now, that’s a sweet deal wouldn’t you say? Customers will receive their gaming console along with the device when it starts shipping on July 22nd across the country. Samsung has planned a graduated release across the Europe and other markets within the end of next month.
