O2 has finally announced launch dates for the Palm Pre in three European countries. The phone will be available in Germany starting with October 13 while customers in UK and Ireland will be able to purchase Palm’s webOS phone starting with October 16. In the UK the Pre will be available for free as long as you choose an 18- or 24-month contract starting at $72 per month so we should expect similar offers to become available soon in Germany and Ireland.
So there you have it folks, the GSM version of the Pre is getting ready for business in Europe which raises one important question: when will it be available in the USA?

We heard earlier this week that Vodafone Ireland could sell a different N97 version dubbed as the Mini. The phone should be cheaper than the already launched N97 and you can expect it not to have the same cool features. That means a smaller screen, less memory, slower processor. But we can’t guarantee any of that since Nokia isn’t telling us anything yet. The Mini will arrive later this year and should match the current prices of T-Mobile’s G1. Vodafone hasn’t denied the rumor which means there’s a chance for Nokia to actually launch the Mini soon. The Irish Times is saying that “O2, Meteor and 3 Ireland all said they intend to sell the N97 but none was able to provide a launch date or expected pricing.”
What would you choose between the N97 and the Mini version? How much would you be willing to pay for it?

Nokia’s own app store, the Ovi Store, has been soft launched in Australia, Ireland and Singapore. According to Nokia we should “expect a broader announcement and consumer availability soon.” We should probably see the Ovi Store available in other countries soon but we have no idea what soon actually means. In the mean time, check out the shots above for some Nokia Ovi Store action as it would show on a N97 or a 5800.

Apple is really set to conquer the globe. If you need more proof than what you’ve already seen, then perhaps this would convince you. It’s been confirmed that the Apple iPhone is coming to Ireland exclusively via O2 Ireland. The official debut would be on March 14, 2008. The iPhone will be sold in the country through Carphone Warehous and O2 retail outlets. The iPhone versions which would be available in Leprechaun Country are the 8GB model which would be sold at US$600 and the 16GB model for US$750.
According to Danuta Gray, O2 Ireland CE:
“The iPhone is changing the way people use their mobiles forever, and we’re thrilled to offer it to O2 customers in Ireland. Our strategy in Ireland continues to be to bring our customers the very best innovations and experiences in mobile communications.”
Three new call plans will reportedly available for the iPhone which would start at €45. The US, UK, Australia, Germany, France, and now Ireland. Where next, Apple? We reckon it’ll be Asian invasion time soon.
