As a parent of three children, I suppose I would have loved to have the Cry Translator during my kids’ infant years. This Cry Translator iPhone app is somehow able to interpret a baby’s cry to determine whether he or she is hungry, sleepy, stressed, annoyed, or bored.
Apparently, this works because baby crying is essentially a universal language. Believe it or not, the makers of this app say it is 96 percent accurate. If you want to test that out for yourself, go to the website and spend $30 on it. If you purchase it by November 11th, you can get it for $9.99.

I am amazed at all the new uses for augmented reality, especially those that make their appearances on iPhone apps such as Layar. There is now another augreal app with the Car Finder. (By the way, augreal is just an abbreviation that I just made up for Augmented Reality. I’m hoping it will catch on.)
Car Finder relies on an iPhone 3GS camera and digital compass in order to “overlay the direction of your car and how far away it is”. So now you have a way of remembering where you park. It is available at the App Store for about $0.99.

Unlike the Apple’s native App Store app, this doesn’t have a “top” list based on overall downloads. Chorus is designed to work in chorus with apps that have been recommended by other Chorus users.

Time lapse photography is always awesome to see, but is really awful to make. A new iPhone app known as Timelapser makes is easier, and uses the photo-taking feature of the iPhone.
The Timelapser app does not require an iPhone model that can play video, just the camera. All the user needs to do is take a picture every three seconds to half-hour, and the app takes the stills and turns them into silent movie frames. These video files can be saved on the iPhone and even emailed to friends.

Considering all the e-readers that are hitting the market these days, I’m sure that there are many iPhone apps fit for this purpose. However, QuickReader is an eBook reader app designed to help eager readers “scan pages faster and remember more information”.
Users can set it from 100 to 2,000 words per minute, and customize it with different colors, spacing, backgrounds, fonts, and so on. QuickReader comes with some books, including the classic Black Beauty. QuickReader lite is available for free, and QuickReader pro is for $4.99.

I have never played Settlers of Catan, but I have a lot of gaming friends who just assumed that I have. I’m sure you’ve probably heard of this popular board game that Wired called “the Monopoly killer”. So why not make it into an iPhone app?
Settlers of Catan can be played with four players, as long as those players are within range of the iPhone. Yes, there is no playing online option, and it will cost about $4.99.

I’m sure those who have kids know the sheer living hell of what its like having a fussy baby on a long car trip. Perhaps you should try the aptly name iPhone app known as OccupyBaby. It makes use of the iPhone’s touchscreen to create interactive activities that only a baby could love. Yes, this would imply that you want your baby to smear your iPhone with whatever sick things his or her hands have been touching.
It is available for 99 cents at the OccupyBaby website.

The hit video game Earthworm Jim has come to the iPhone. Some of you have never heard of this old-school Sega Genesis game, but it follows the adventures of a worm in a robotic suit that often uses his head as a whip. Believe it or not, it was so popular that it even had a TV series. You should be able to get it for about $4.99.

Leonard Maltin has spent his entire career writing about movies, so I suppose its only proper that he gets an iPhone app named after him. The Leonard Maltin Movie Guide for iPhone produces the original version of the print guide, with all its 24,000 capsule reviews. You can also search by title, director, and actor. It even has a Netflix integration so you can add the movie you are searching for into your Watch Now queue.
You should be able to get this app at the iTunes store for about $4.99.

Just to let you know, this is not an iPhone app that allows you to peek into the Bride’s Dressing Room. No, this app from NearbyNow is for the ladies, and allows future brides to browse a variety of wedding and bridesmaid dresses, and sort by silhouette, designer, or price. The bride-to-be can even check availability of the dresses and even schedule an appointment with a local bridal shop for consultations and fittings. The user can even send a picture of the dresses directly from the application to friends, family, and the fiancee if she wants the bad luck.
As you might have guessed, the Brides Dressing Room app is by Brides magazine, and it is available here as a freedownload at the Apple store.

(Insert music from Apple iPhone Commercial here) What if you want to start your car, turn on the heat in your car, unlock the doors, unlock the trunk, or turn the alarm on or off?
There’s an app for that. In this case, it is the Viper SmartStart. The app is free, but you have to install the hardware module in the car yourself. However, you can do all the aforementioned things from anywhere as this module is connected to your iPhone via the cellular network.
Okay, now my car keys are on my iPhone. This is going to be the standard of things to come, right?

According to Matt Jones, vice president of mobile strategy and operations for Gannet Digital, USA TODAY is synonymous with travel. I honestly didn’t really know this, and I never would have guessed that the sensational newspaper has its own travel app for the iPhone.
USA Today AutoPilot offers TripIt integration, real-time flight status, as well as access to travel blogs. It can also give you a flight-delay map that can instantly show trouble spots, and it can provide the user with a directory for airlines, hotels, and car-rental companies. Sadly, it can only track flights, not the aforementioned hotel and car reservations.
But hey, you should not ask too much from a free app.

On top of the Howcast app launched today, Llamagraphics also came up with Life Balance which is an application dedicated multi-tasking professionals. The software costs $20 and is currently sitting at the iPhone App Store waiting to be downloaded. Obviously it also works with iPod touch.
How can Life Balance help iPhone users? By providing a few benefits and productivity functions, such as getting organized by dividing tasks, prioritizing work so you can calculate where to spend your time wisely, and getting real time feedback by using to do lists.
Catherine E White of Llamagraphics, comments:

Once you begin using Life Balance to get your daily routines under control, you experience a different way to approach the whole process of making positive life changes.

In addition to iSpinning that was launched earlier today, Neutrinos also has a surprise called PoetrySinger which is yet another iPhone Application.
Like the name of the app suggests, it is somehow related with poetry because it lets users create, play back and share poems online. Afterwards, when it is published at PoetrySinger.com, other people can view and download them, creating a sense of community with little interaction, at least for now.
An interesting and fun feature is the possibility to play back the poem in audio, by using a spoken voice.
David Peixotto of Neutrinos, comments:

Recorder is the name of the iPhone Application made by Retronyms that crossed the mark of 200,000 downloads.
In case you don’t know, Recorder lets iPhone and iPod (2G) users easily record and playback audio. Afterwards they can email it directly from the iPhone, or alternatively, transfer it to a computer via WiFi. What made it so popular was being the first recording application that could support synchronization via email and WiFi. Nowadays there are probably more applications with the same function…
Zach Saul from Retronyms, comments:

For all of the people out there on the Internet trying to guess what the free/paid split is in the App Store, this gives you an idea.
