Apple is excited to announce that the latest version of their popular iPhone line, the 3G S, has gone ahead and sold over 1 million copies since its June 19th release date. Apple front-man Steve Jobs was on hand to comment on the phone’s success:

Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning. With over 50,000 applications available from Apple’s revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever.

But that’s not all Apple was pleased to announce as they also let us know that the latest iPhone OS version, version 3.0, has been downloaded over 6 million times since it was released last week.

Does anyone out there still doubt that Apple is attempting to take over the world?

In case you were angry with Apple and AT&T for the whole activation delay mess then you should know that the Cupertino-based company is apologizing with a $30 iTunes gift card.

Here’s what the email says:

Dear Apple Customer,

Thank you for your recent Apple Store order. We appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience caused by the delay in your iPhone activation.

We are still resolving the issue that was encountered while activating your iPhone with AT&T. Unfortunately, due to system issues and continued high activation volumes, this could take us up to an additional 48 hours to complete.

On Monday, you’ll receive an email from Apple with an iTunes Store credit in the amount of $30. We hope you will enjoy this gift and accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience this delay has caused.

Thank you for choosing Apple.

Sincerely,
Apple Online Store Team

As you can see the credit will be available this Monday so go ahead and take advantage of it right away!

What phone is better you ask? The Palm Pre, the iPhone 3G S or the iPhone 3G? Would it really matter or would end up getting your favorite phone no matter how fast it is?

According to some recent testing the iPhone 3G S is 128% faster at loading web pages than the iPhone 3G while the iPhone 3G S overall performance is 22.6% better than the Pre’s. During testing the iPhones were running iPhone 3.0 OS while the Pre was running webOS v1.0.2.

Now that the iPhone 3G S has been out for a full day people are turning in all sorts of reports. Especially since the new phone is close enough to what everyone wanted since the first generation iPhone. One of the improvements of the 3G S is supposed to be the 3G connectivity. The iPhone 3G S could, at least on paper, use that 7.2Mbps 3G speed but it looks like it doesn’t really do that. First of all, AT&T is still working on upgrading its network to 7.2Mbps, and, unless you live in Chicago, you won’t be getting speeds anywhere near that. As you can see from the test screenshot above, the 3G S is indeed faster but the added speed isn’t significant. In fact it’s all thanks to the new processor of the phone. In other words, you’ll still have to wait for a faster 3G connectivity so better postpone upgrading to iPhone 3G S if all you want is just faster download and upload speeds. Maybe next year when Apple will launch the iPhone LTE, AT&T/Verizon customers will be able to surf the Internet on the go at speeds of 7.2Mbps and beyond.

Is the iPhone 3G S going to be more successful than the iPhone 3G was in its first sales weekend? Well if we are to believe AT&T it looks that “hundreds of thousands” have pre-ordered the iPhone 3G S. That’s what Ralph De La Vega, president of AT&T has declared in an interview with CNBC. So what is the real number so far? How many hundreds of thousands have pre-ordered the new iPhone? Ten? If you were a betting person would you bet for or against Apple and AT&T selling more than a million phones in the first weekend? What can Sprint say now about its record Pre sales?

  • No iPhone 3G S Lines in the UK?

As you can see from the pictures above the iPhone 3G S didn’t convince people to sit in a line for it. In 2007, back when the iPhone was a hot new product, people were really anxious to get their hands on the new device but know the interest seems to have diminished. The new iPhone brings some important updates to the table but if you’re not into better graphics or video recording than your old iPhone 3G packing iPhone 3.0 OS is probably the phone you actually wanted to buy a year ago. After around 20 million iPhones sold worldwide is the new version going to be a hit or not? Is it the harder economic times or the fact that the iPhone 3G S can’t conveniently come to your house now? Or is it that people don’t qualify for the iPhone 3G S subsidized upgrade? Remember folks, the iPhone is available now in the USA, Canada and a few European countries. If you spot a line, drop us a line!

Besides Apple and AT&T, Best Buy will also sell the new iPhone 3G S starting tomorrow. A Google Docs spreadsheet was made public and according to sources it represents the full iPhone 3G S stock that Best Buy has available now. You’ll have to take a chance when choosing where to camp but if you’re lucky enough you’ll be able to walk out a Best Buy store with a new iPhone 3G S in your hands in no time. Unfortunately you’ll also have to be one of the first 17,580 people ready to purchase the iPhone 3G S from a Best Buy store. What do you think your chances are?
