A new iPAQ seems to be heading to AT&T, at least according to the FCC. The K3 is going to have GSM and HSPA support for the 850/1900MHz bands which means that AT&T is the designated carrier. And to make it even clearer, there’s AT&T SKU written all over the ID label available right here. The K3 Obsidian is probably going to run Windows Mobile but we have no idea when it’s coming out. Should we simply assume that HP will launch it sometime in October?

The last time we saw it, the iPaQ K3 was what you would have expected if it were to compete with others in the smartphone category, but things seems to have changed slightly now and we are not sure if this will give the Obisidian an edge over its competitors. Apparently, HP has dropped the standard 2.8-inch TFT touchscreen display for a smaller, 2.46-inch 320 x 240 pixel AMOLED display and the camera is bettered now to a 3.2 megapixel lens against the 2-megapixel snapper listed on the initial leak. Other specs such as its GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, full QWERTY keypad, WinMo 6.5 OS, and microSD slot are still intact as are the 528MHz CPU with 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM. The release date of November 30 is also unchanged, so you’ll have to wait till then to lay your hands on this smartphone. Skip over for a few more pictures…

Tagging along with the recently leaked LG Monaco is yet another smartphone which is on its way to AT&T, the HP iPAQ K3 Obsidian. While the Monaco is a touchscreen device with a slide-out QWERTY keypad, the Obsidian goes for the bar look but packing a similar QWERTY keypad and a 2.8-inch touchscreen display. There’s Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, with a microSD slot and microUSB connectivity. Also included are a proximity sensor and a light sensor. The usual 3G, HSDPA, and WiFi also make an appearance and the device runs Windows Mobile 6.5. AT&T will be releasing the iPAQ K3 in the final quarter of 2009, November 30 to be specific, so look to us to get you more on this upcoming device until then.

You asked for that iPAQ Data Messenger from HP? I guess you waited for it for quite a while now and you deserve getting it. The handset is available for pre-order in the UK and it costs $593. But isn’t it too late for HP to release it? We have lots of hot prospects out there. Motorola has new handsets prepared, HTC has a new line ready for 2009 and the Pre is waiting patiently. Not to mention that Windows Mobile 6.1 will be history soon and that Android is growing stronger every minute. And that presidentially-endorsed BlackBerry is becoming more and more famous. I haven’t forgotten Apple either, especially since the Cupertino-based company has just been awarded that precious multi-touch patent.
So, do you really want a Windows Mobile 6.1 HP iPAQ Data Messenger now?

HP seems ready to develop their iPAQ smartphone line and adapt it for the consumer model. The Wall Street Journal reports that a future device is going to be very useful to both consumers and corporate users. The phone will apparently come with a touchscreen and a keypad and it will run on Windows Mobile 6.1.
There are no details about the future model. We don’t know the actual arrival date and how much it will cost. We’d like to have a picture for it too (the iPAQ above is a 500 series), and it looks we might get one soon. The new iPAQ might be available in Europe sometime within the next two months or so, while the rest of the world would get it soon after.

Hot off the presses! HP’s new iPAQ, the HP iPAQ 900 Series, just got approved by the FCC. Featuring a ton of goodies including GPS, HSDPA support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and more, this is one venerable all-in-one. Called a Business Messenger, the HP iPAQ 900 series is bundled with a Stylus and comes with a 1940 mAh Li-polymer rechargeable battery. For some reason, it is shipped with a wired stereo handset, but hey, it’s got Bluetooth, so I’m sure you’ll end up buying spankin’ wireless ones.
The device features a mini USB interface. One of the nice things about the iPAQ is its QWERTY keyboard. It also features the familiar 5-way navigation key. Running on Windows Mobile 6, the device takes in microSD memory cards for added memory. There’s also an on-board 3-megapixel camera with flash.
There are tons of other details available on the FCC site, go check it out in your free time (which is RIGHT NOW, people!). No word on the pricing or availability yet.

Remember the HP iPAQ 600 series smartphone that we saw on The Whack a while ago? Well, the device has apparently been approved by the FCC although the juicy stuff - namely the photos and user manual - is still well hidden thanks to the confidentiality request put in by Hewlett-Packard.
The device, identified as B94HHI14CN, cannot be used for simultaneous operations of the WLAN and WWAN HSDPA transmitters by software control, and will prohibit co-transmission as well. If you are connected to your wireless LAN and receive a phone call, the software will shut down WLAN transmission immediately. Hopefully you were not downloading your favorite songs just then.
Expect confirmation from HP soon. Hopefully we will also get an idea of the pricing.

New iPAQs? In this day and age of iPhones, Nokia N95s and what not? Well, that’s what HP is planning to unleash anyway. And it’s not just one new model but a slew of line-ups, including the iPAQ 114, iPAQ 214, iPAQ 314, iPAQ 614 and iPAQ 914. That’s the mug-shot right there, from left to right. As can be guessed, the HP iPAQ 914 is the big gun boasting a 2.46″ touchscreen. It also has a 3 MPx camera, support for A-GPS, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) and HSDPA network support for hi-speed data. The HP iPAQ 614 runs on Windows Mobile and features GPS navigation capabilities and is in the same price range as the iPAQ 914.
